My question is, what direction or motivation, if any, were you given to play the role of Ethan? Were you allowe dto ask questions? Or did they just let you "go with it?"

thanks for the comments. i'm always reluctant to discuss what direction i was given, as i'd rather focus on the resulting performance. and i'm doubly reluctant to discuss it re. 'lost' b/c of the many mysteries. i will say that i was allowed to ask questions and that the writers and producers were terrific about discussing ethan and some of his background with me. at the same time they encouraged me to bring to the character whatever i considered interesting and relevant.
