Hi there!
A close friend of mine suggested I post this here.* I'm hoping to be a professional writer, and I was curious about how writing for television works.*
I recently completed a novel that I'm in the process of trying to publish, and I have some professional playwriting credits, but writing books and plays has made me feel very cut off from he rest of the world-- sitting alone in a room all day is not much fun!* The thing I enjoy most is working with other writers and with actors on collaborative projects. I love brainstorming and being part of a creative group that works together.
After watching LOST, I started to think that the way I write and enjoy working seems much more suited to television than to novels, and LOST has given me new hope for television series that are more in line with my way of thinking.* I was wondering if television writing is really a more collaborative effort, as I imagine it to be, and if so, if you would recommend the best ways to become more familiar with the field or start doing it professionally.* Would you recommend getting a post-graduate degree in TV writing, or simply to jump* in and start applying for assistant positions?* If any of you are willing to give recommendations or suggestions, how did you get into the field?*
Thanks very much for your time!* I am a great admirer of the show and would love to hear more about working in this field.
