Hi, I was wondering what kind of stage make up they might have used to give you that acid scar and I believe the scars on your hands, and how long it took. After all, it's only a quick glance, so did they get detail oriented, or just slap something icky looking on you? And once it was on, did you spend time looking at it wondering what it would be like having to live with marks like that?

Hey there... Actually the make up people were very detailed in the scarring! They had several to choose from (the final call came from the director) and they had to glue them on and remove them so they wouldn't tear apart (or hurt me, for that matter!) The acid scar was huge and they applied makeup over it to match my skin tone. The hand scars were actually based on a model of a cast member's actual scar that the makeup man thought was cool looking and asked to duplicate! Then he applied makeup on top of that, too. I thought that was fascintating. The hand scars kept coming off the most and bunching up cause I would clench my fists without realizing it. Oops. In using them for the performance, I tried to focus more on the event that caused them (the torture) than what it would be like to live with them, because I don't think that Nadia would look at them as aesthetic flaws more as badges of honor, you know? The torture scenarios I thought up (who was in the room, how it was done, etc) really helped me.

I'd taken a fun class in theatrical make up and just really enjoyed it. I never got to do much with liquid latex, and the like, just effects with straight make up. I can imagine that scarring tissue might restrict movement, as you stated with your issues with your hands. And yeah, I can totally see how focusing on the cause, rather than the outcome, might be a better way to inform your motivation.

Nice to see you in here answering questions. I bet this format is much easier to deal with than the Linear Board.
