I read in an interview (and forgive me for paraphrasing here) that you took time off after Party of Five to distance yourself from the character of Charlie Salinger that so many fans had closely associated with you.

Well, I'm here to say that your plan succeeded!

I didn't watch Party, but knew of you from that show. When Lost first aired, my first thought was, Wow, who is that hot guy??

I love that you are playing such a different role in Lost. I like that Jack is a complex, conflicted hero. He's an enigma-- a combination of charisma, strength, vulnerability, and sensitivity-- which you somehow manage to integrate seamlessly from week to week.* I am impressed by the powerful, emotional performances you've given.

I'm curious, in what ways do you find this role challenging?

Are you surprised by the overwhelming amount of attention you and the Lost crew are now getting?
