How long have you been acting, Andrea?* I have been into acting the last few years and I have been to only one casting call where they just took my picture and put me in their "book".* Just wondering, how did you get into acting and do you have any tips for me on what to do at an audition or how to to even get into some good auditions?* I have a friend whos a model and she has been an extra before so I have her to try and guide me, and I understand most people can't get into the media, but I would still like to try and somehow get myself out there.

Any suggestions?* They would be much appreciated!*

Hey there, sweetie. Yeah, the acting thing can definitely be frusterating and difficult... The "business" side of it, that is. I've been doing it for about ten years and I even had trouble getting an agent once I came out here. But just keep at it if it really makes you happy.
The first thing is to get a head shot you really like and a resume, then you should try to get a manager or an agent. Go through the "ross reports" you can buy them at Sam French (play bookstore) or maybe even online at this point. Go through some local agents and managers and send your pic with a note that introduces yourself and gives your contact information-- but make sure it's a legit agency before you give your home phone number to ANYONE. If it's in Ross Reports, it's probably legit. From there, I know in NYC and LA they have "casting workshops" where you can go in and do cold readings for a casting person who comes as a "guest." Sometimes they cost some moolah-- but just make sure these places are on the up and up before going anywhere. Lots of whack jobs out there.
Finally, try to get into class if you aren't in one already. It's so important to know feel confident in what you're doing before you get seen by someone. First impressions count a lot. You don't have to be perfect (the actors who think they're perfect are usually the ones who stink!) Just get the basics down and then practice practice practice. And try to remember that it's supposed to be fun! I hope this info has been helpful, and if you have more questions just let me know. K? ;)

Wow, thanks so much! Yeah I know there are a ton whack jobs out there! And I actually am trying to get a headshot appointment pretty soon. But thanks so much for your time and help, I really appreciate it and it certainly helped. And, yes, I'll be sure to come to you if I have any more questions. Thanks again and Happy Holidays!
