View Full Version : A list vs B list in Season 2
Dad_of_4 09-16-2005, 12:58 PM Season 1 - New show, unique premise, holding the cards pretty close to the chest, right?
So we get Kevin Tighe (B list) as Daddy Evil instead of a Christopher Walken (A list). Just as an example.
Season 2 - Proven hit, Unique premise, holding cards pretty close to the chest but agents and actors are knocking on the door to see if there's a "flashback" character that works for them.
So now you're being approached and perhaps hounded for upcoming or non recurring roles.
Is this the case?
What challenges has it created for the show?
What opportunities has it created for the show?
And other than MIchael Keaton (perhaps), who else out there is kicking themselves in the butt for missing the boat?
Raggs 09-16-2005, 04:33 PM There is an alternate possibility that agents and actors didn't see coming. 2nd season we're going to cast C-List actors in all the non-recurring roles. That should keep them guessing, don't you think? So when you see Carrot Top in the next Kate flashback episode, you can say you head it here first, okay?
Dad_of_4 09-16-2005, 05:16 PM I like the way you guys think....
this show has been ground breaking in terms of new talent and new talents (let's say facets) from experienced talent...
When show broke, I thought Dom was a gamble as Charlie...LOTR casts such a long shadow...Now I can't think of any else as Charlie...
Casting is such a difficult task and one of the many less appreciated behind the scenes aspects of any show.
Thanks for the response and tell anyone that cares to hear it that Tribe of 6 (our entire family) is hooked. Thanks to all involved for bringing family viewing back to network TV.
This is the only show that we watch together each week. Kids are aged 15, 10, 8 and 5.
As an aside, is the time change going to alter too greatly the current tone and/or PG -13 aspect of the show? We make sure the kids understand the show, in the context of it's just television show.
To date, we have not seen anything that we would consider too risque or too scary for the kids. We still on safe ground?
Raggs 09-16-2005, 10:50 PM First of all, thank you so much for the kind words regarding the show. I am as much a fan as anyone else, so I understand what you mean. But thank you, just the same. You are correct about the casting, April, Veronica and Mandy are wonderful (and just won a much deserved Emmy). It's funny how, once a show has launched it is impossible to imagine someone else in the main roles, isn't it? I guess that means we cast the right people...
The show's move to 9pm gives us a very little more wiggle room, but I have seen nothing in the first 9 episodes that you need to worry about with the kids.
I hope you enjoy Season 2, and thank you so much...to your whole family for your support of the show.
Cheers,
Raggs:biggrin:
Dad_of_4 09-19-2005, 03:16 PM Thanks for the heads up -
Mom of 4 was going to start paying attention to the parental warnings just in case...
Your reassurance, makes me feel a lot better....
Congrats to all on the Emmys - No I in team, right?
Maybe JJ is a hockey fan and he'll let all of you have it for a day like they do with the Stanley Cup.
Disappointed that O'quinn didn't win but knew that was going to be a tough putt.
Thanks again.
Raggs 09-20-2005, 02:28 PM Either you've got a bug in the office or great minds think alike, because I made the exact same Stanley Cup joke on Friday before the weekend. Either way, stop hacking my material. I kid, of course, well played my good man. I agree with you about Terry O'Quinn. Tough putt or not, the guy got robbed. Shatner? Come on...
Thanks again to you and your whole family for being such great fans.
Cheers,
Raggs
Dad_of_4 09-20-2005, 07:11 PM Word on the boards is that Naveen and O'quinn ended up splitting the vote that would have gone to Lost cast member and giving Shatner the nod....
Perot or Nader effect kind of thing....
Psst - Not a bug......Little camera....Look up .....smile....
just kidding....
OK - Kids are all doing their homework tonight so they have tomorrow open....
Here's hoping for a great Season 2 Premiere.....
Will give you a tribe of 6 review manana.....and No sorry, we're not a Neilsen family.....Dang it....
