View Full Version : Stadium exchange
ejg5238 09-22-2005, 01:46 AM Maybe I'm reading too much into things, but I found it interesting that Desmond shared his water bottle with Jack. Is it possible that this was intentional? Maybe there was something in the water, and possibly related to Desmonds injections and/or Jack healing his wife.. It definately felt like Jack was a pawn of Desmond in this episode.....
Mr.James 09-22-2005, 01:50 AM I dont know about the water.....good thought......but it was really cool how he asked jack "what if you did fix her"? and i think he said something like...."you just have to lift her up", i dont know...but then she was fixed. very strange.
It freaked me out.
I thought, at first, he wanted Jacks DNA with the water bottle but I don't think Jack put it to his moth.
Mr.James 09-22-2005, 01:55 AM You're right, i dont think he did put it on his mouth
LostApril 09-22-2005, 01:57 AM I dont know about the water.....good thought......but it was really cool how he asked jack "what if you did fix her"? and i think he said something like...."you just have to lift her up", i dont know...but then she was fixed. very strange.
See, I thought the same thing. I believe that he said "you have to lift her up" the first time and then changed her to "it"....
freaky stuff
miss emme 09-22-2005, 01:57 AM Desmond said "you have to lift it up" and Jack said "huh" and Desmond laughed and said "Your foot you have to keep it elevated"
Superman 09-22-2005, 01:58 AM i thought he said "lift up"... and then jack goes "lift it up"... i'm sure that bit of advice will pay off later though
Mr.James 09-22-2005, 01:59 AM Desmond said "you have to lift it up" and Jack said "huh" and Desmond laughed and said "Your foot you have to keep it elevated"\
But i dont think thats what he meant the first time......i dont think he meant lift your ankle up.
Superman 09-22-2005, 02:02 AM yeah that's how Desmond played it off... he meant more though
I know one thing for sure they did not meet by accident.
He even said he wanted to be a doctor at one point.
Desmond creeped me out.
Jack just does not read people well at all.
Mr.James 09-22-2005, 02:10 AM I know one thing for sure they did not meet by accident.

Jacks a good doctor....but i would say he is not very "street smart"......not at all.
melikalani 09-22-2005, 02:30 AM I took it as Desmond telling Jack to pray for a miracle - especially since he specifically asked Jack if he believed in miracles.
It's quite common Catholic vernacular to say that you're going to "lift up" your trials and tribulations to God so that He can take of things as He sees fit, i.e., giving God your total faith and trust.
ilgandy 09-22-2005, 02:43 AM There was definately much more going on in that scene than we saw. I believe that Desmond is going to play a very strong role in revaling why they are all on the island.
LostApril 09-22-2005, 02:45 AM OK, what I wanna know is when this took place. Was it 8 years ago? 4? cant....think....must.....sleep
Quiksilver13oi 09-22-2005, 02:45 AM i believe Sara said a little over two years ago
ilgandy 09-22-2005, 02:51 AM But when were Jack and Sara married? How long was Jack divorced before the show started?
Peffe 09-22-2005, 02:55 AM In the episode where they flash back to Jack's wedding, I believe Sara says... "Six years ago I was in a car crash..."
I'd have to re-watch the episode though. My girlfriend and I were having the same questions earlier and we decided six years.
Blamo 09-22-2005, 02:55 AM i believe Sara said a little over two years ago
Ooh that's good. Specifically, it's "a little over 2 years" between the crash and her wedding with Jack. That may help to narrow down the timeline (once we figure out how long ago the wedding was).
JWPinkham 09-22-2005, 08:10 AM Yo dudes... Here's something to add to your speculation about this scene. Desmond gives Jack the drink. Then he immediately goes to see his patient (stopping only to shower). What does his patient say first off, and keep emphasizing beyond the point of politeness? She talks about how bad he smells. What if the drink Desmond gave Jack contains a chemical/nanobot/healing/cloning agent that survives being injested and comes out in the sweat? She was healed by smelling his sweat?
I know it sounds weird but she made such a big deal about how bad he smelled, even though Jack claimed he took a shower before coming to see her. Maybe Desmond was working on this miracle curing agent (which he needed himself, thus his drinking it himself as he pulls off feats of endurance in the stadium) but then it was discovered to have bad effects, so he was then quarrantined? Maybe everyone he came in contact with (including Jack) need to be quarrantined, which is why they are brought to the island? I dunno.
Perhaps he gave Jack a swig to instantly heal his sprained ankle, knowing he could then transmit the effect to his patient (which is why he suggested that she might be cured).
waltisfuture 09-22-2005, 08:16 AM Love it!!!!!
Desmond looked like a robot running up those stairs, and if he's an adventure seeker than maybe he's into performance enhancing drugs that leads him to miracle water???

Dude you should be a writer  Not a bad idea
Oggie 09-22-2005, 08:38 AM Well, we know it's not Nanobots. Thats been stated by the producers of the show. But there's nothing at all to say that there wasnt something in the drink that affected him, and then her thru his sweat. But I have another very far fetched theory that right now is in it's infantcy. And if I am right, then all of this is pretty much in vain.

I don't get this. If you had a random exchange with some stranger while you were running at least two years ago, and you saw him now -- would you immediately recognize him and say "You!!"
Something more is going on with this Desmond dude. I would think he's got to be a more "recent" acquaintance then just some guy Jack encountered once (as far as we know) for about 5 minutes two (or more) years ago. Unless Jack has some photographic memory or something. hahahhahaha Honestly, I don't remember, years later, every random exchange I have with complete strangers.
Am I the only one who finds this odd?

Ummm, when exactly did they say that?? Quotes/references please....

I don't know, the night he meet him was a pretty significant night to Jack. It was the first night he meet his future wife and a night in which he witnesses a miracle by her being able to move her toes. He learned alot that night, and not just about himself. I would think that it would stick out in his mind quite well. Kinda like how I remember the night I met my husband.
And I don't think it was the Desmond's "look" that jogged his memory. It was the fact that he said Brother in that Irish accent, the same way he did years ago when they first meet. It's unusual and that is probably why he recognized him.
Not the Girl I Think I am 09-22-2005, 09:43 AM I think the point about Jack drinking Desmond's water and then "healing" his patient is a major point. Don't forget that many of the other survivors have noticed, and made mention of the fact that they survived this plane crash with little more than a few cuts and bruises. I also recall the Marshall on the plane saying something to Kate about finishing her juice. Could it be that somehow, some of the survivors have ingested some sort of experimental healing substance at some point? If that were the case, it potentially explains things like Charlie's "miraculous" recovery from being hanged. He didn't even have a hint of brain damage from lack of oxygen. I found that bit a little far-fetched at the time, but now it appears there might be a reason it was possible.

I don't think that Desmond said Brother, wasn't it Jack who called Desmond Brother?
and I agree, I would remember an incident, even a conversation, but not necessarily the face of someone I met 2 years ago....
dparis79 09-22-2005, 10:46 AM I believe it was Desmond who said Brother, not Jack. And I agree that it wasn't Desmond's appearance but the fact that he said "Brother" that made Jack recognize him.
flora 09-23-2005, 01:48 PM Desmond said "brother" as a figure of speech, I think that, plus his distinctive accent would have "helped" Jack remember such a random meeting with a stranger so many years ago.
Of course, my poor, confused mother had to call me yesterday and ask, "That guy that was in the hatch, is he Jack's brother?" No, mother, that was just a figure of speech... Poor woman would be "lost" without me to explain all of this to her! :)
Jenster 09-23-2005, 05:37 PM I think that when Desmond says he's training for a "race around the world" maybe he doesn't mean race in terms of a competition. He could be referring to a new race of man or species....
Which could be related to the injections, altering DNA or something.
Just a thought, I'm not much of a science person
miss emme 09-24-2005, 03:44 AM I believe it was Desmond who said Brother, not Jack. And I agree that it wasn't Desmond's appearance but the fact that he said "Brother" that made Jack recognize him.
It was Desmond who said it and when he said it in the hatch you could definately see Jack react to that word.
By the way, remember the parting words Desmond gave Jack? "See you in another life." Or something to that effect. Any ideas about this? Maybe Desmond knew that he was going to see Jack again on the island. Desmond showing up on the island in the hatch and meeting Jack those few years ago = no coincidence.
Desmond's words meant something. "Another life" as the last words before he sees him in the hatch on this island. Creepy.
