sorry but I just couldn't resist...and yes...I didn't bother to look for it and for that i'm sorry beforehand

But the title of the episode....Man of science, man of faith...yeah could be Jack and Locke...

But maybe they meant Jack and Desmond.

Jack said: he couldn't fix her.

Desmond said: What if a miracle happens?

I LOVED THIS EPISODE! RIGHT UP THERE WITH WALKABOUT!

It could have refered to Jack and Locke, Jack and Desmond, or maybe even Jack and himself. Jack and himself because he, at first, didn't believe in miracles. He saw what happened to Sarah and maybe that's what he is debating with himself: science or faith?

It seems to me that what happened with Sarah affected Jack, but maybe he disregarded it quickly, cause again...he's a man of science...hence the confrontations with Locke later....

Yeah, during the episode I was thinking there wasn't really enough Jack vs. Locke confrontation to warrant the title of the episode. I thought about Desmond being man of Faith after the conversation about miracles, but I also like the idea it's Jack vs. himself.

Yes l was wondering the same thing myself It wasn't enough of a Jack/Locke episode for it to be them.

Yep! That would cause friction between his mindset.

Hmm just thinking again maybe it was Jack/Jack cuz when they first brought in Sarah and Mr Rutherford. Jack was being very scientific giving Sarah just the facts. Then when he was with her after his run. It was all about faith, they were both crying over the miracle of her being able to move her toes.

The titles usually seem to have meaning on several levels.

On the most obvious level, it does refer to Jack and Locke, as it goes back to the conversation between the two of them in Exodus, when Locke called Jack a man of science and himself a man of faith.

However, on deeper levels, it can mean other things. I've seen on another board that "faith" might referance a faith healer. Who really healed Sara? Desmond did say he was a doctor... Did he do something that healed her? Or did he do something that allowed Jack to heal her despite all scientific realities that made her recovery a near impossibility?

I think you are on to something regarding the strong smell, I hadn't thought of it until I read your post, I don't know why coming into contact with him would cause an strong odor, but I do think there is something there
