IMO, the Island is what was quarantined. Desmond was in a shelter to isolate himself from whatever infection is on the Island. Remember that there was no handle or way to open the Hatch from the outside.

It was on the inside for the same reason why there was no handle to get in on the outside...

It appears to be more than a simple shelter, though. It was morning in his quarters and yet night outside the hatch.

Maybe its an illusion... maybe this is too star trek but think he has a holodeck? ;) But I do think that his injection was a vaccine, and that the disease was the island, on the island, or the people themselves. With the whole computer thing, did anyone else get a Truman Show vibe? Like how in the movie the shows producers control the weather, the environment, and the people surrounding the main guy with their computers. Not that that is what he was doing lol but that is what it reminded me of...

right away my roommate noticed it was written on the inside. To signify that the island was the disease (or had the disease) and the person in the hatch was quarantining it from him.



also someone looked up quarantine in a dictionary and it showed that the typical time for quarantine is 40 days. odd they got in the quarantined hatch 40 days after crashing.

If someone's house is quarantined don't they put the sign on the outside of the door so that visitors will know? So if the notice is on the inside of the hatch, shouldn't that mean that it's the island that's quarantined?

as a thought...if the island is quarantined then....wouldn't Desmond be infected being that he had to get IN the hatch in the first place? Otherwise there's another entrance to that...tunnel system or whatever that's not ON the island. If not, then what's the point of the Quarantine I ask? lol

I think that it was written on the inside for a reason. The outside is what is quarentined. If you look at a picture of the mural where it says sick. There is what looks like a house with a blob outlined in green with the word sick written in it. Could the greenish blob signify the island and the little house signify the hatch?

but, i mean... how many ppl can stay inside the hatch? do you need to writeit on the door? Cant you just tell them "Hey remember out there its unhealty!" These are that sort of things one can hardly forget...

unless there are other doors... leading to places that are not quarantined... and one must know where is going...

This is a good point alexandrite, Desmond had to get into the hatch somehow. Most likely he was on the surface of the island at sometime. So maybe it is not the entire island that is infected, just places or people on it.

I do think that Danielle said that the "others" were the carriers of the sickness that her team got. If that is the same sickness that Desmond is quarenteeed from, then maybe he knows more about that and the others.
