Mr. Lindelof,

Just wanted to chime in with some reaction to the episode. Thought it was absolutely wonderful and didn't miss a beat or go astray for a second. I am someone who has not had any issues with the paces or the drawn out teasing that the narrative incurs, so I'm not starting in a hyper critical vein to begin with...

The puzzle of what was in the hatch actually led to a dream about what might be in the hatch. No serial piece of televised fiction has ever done that to me; not even Twin Peaks nor Bigfoot and Wildboy. Leaving it for a whole summer to ferment was a brilliant idea, all griping aside. It just made it more OCD for all of us. I want to say: TEASE US LIKE YOU'RE BETTIE PAGE AND WE HAVE FISTFULS OF DOLLARS.

But tonight I wanted to point out what this show really gets right given its premise and some of the trappings of genre... The moment in Jack's office with the fiance. That was an incredibly well written, surprising, and scarily honest scene about human behavior. It's the kind of character moment and beat that to me is really at the heart of this show, something you oft remark upon... And it's for those moments that I think the fans really live for. Just fine damn writing and observation of humanity. The show continues to marvel me for depictions of situations we've seen a million times before dramatized or even play out ourselves that often head off in unexpected directions but scarily recognizable as true.

Tonight it's all about conjecture and the absorption of another piece of the puzzle. The real foundation of the show are, to me, ultimately the quiet, observant ones and I just wanted to say from the bum seats that it not only works, it makes your show as wondrous as it is. Congratulations on the hugely deserved awards, and please yes delve into character, make that your focus. That and the whisper before surgery and the wiggling toes are primarily what I'll remember from this episode in the long run.

Oh yeah have a blast on the comic! I was talking to Allen ex of The OC at last year's SD Comic Con and damn if he didn't look incredulously happy on the chance to write for The Avengers more than anything.

(p.s. getting people to read Flann O Brien any way you can is awesome... Drop some Borges or Eco if you can! About time people in the US heard of more than Joyce...)
