View Full Version : Numbers on Desmond's Medication
howietheturtle 09-22-2005, 05:50 AM Longtime fans, first-time bloggers,
With the aid of Tivo, we were able to isolate the frame during the opening scene involving Desmond loading his medication into the syringe. On the label, the mysterious, recurring numbers: 4,8,15,16,23,42, appear on the top of the prescription.
Given the addition of these numbers to 108, and the appearance of 108 on Desmond's mural, it would appear that Desmond may possess answers to the island's mysteries.
Sincerely,
HowietheTurtle

Good catch with the 108 thing .... I was wondering why they had that number stand out ... never even thought to add them up

http://www.thetailsection.com/ Here you will see the label of the medication that Desmond was taking, you see the numbers 4,8,15,16,23,42 very clearly
Snabbygail 09-22-2005, 07:56 AM I don't think it's a "medication". It's probably most likely a vaccine to protect him from whatever is on the other side of the door marked Quarantine.
Not all vaccines are a one time administration. You have to receive them in doses to build up an immune response. Also if you have a known exposure to an infectious agent an additional dose can boost antigens in the body to fight it off.
I think Desmond heard the hatch door being blown off. He jumped up and gave himself a vaccination to ward off the "sickness".
lostmillennium 09-22-2005, 07:58 AM It looked like he was injecting steroids to me, They are usually administered intramuscular,

Since the hatch blew up after the injection, I know that you are wrong!
I believe it's a steroid just like lostmillennium thought..
YonerBoner 09-22-2005, 10:19 PM Good find, howietheturtle....gotta love the mox.....my first thoughts were that the guy was part of an experiment on the island where the numbers were the code word...perhaps the mental patient in hurleys psych ward was part of the same experiment years earlier when he was stationed close to there....will be interesting to see how everything plays out!!!!
keep up the impressive tivo detective work! :)

chuckb123 09-23-2005, 10:20 AM The vial says "Mulitple Dose Vial" and he shoots the whole thing. If it's a vaccine, he may be getting sicker (needs more juice) if it's a steroid, he may be getting stronger.

Chuck,
He does not shoot the whole thing, you can clearly see the yellow liquid splashing around in the vial after he shoots up.

There's always a possibility for anything. Remember Polar bears aren't suppose to be on tropical islands either.
I will admit my recollection of events was wrong after the first time I watch the epi. It was past my bedtime. He injected himself before the hatch blew. It could be a precautionary thing. I'm vaccinated against Anthrax even though I don't anticipate or would rather not come into contact with it.

FYI- vaccines can be packaged in multiple doses. Example "Contains one 5 mL multidose vial. (0.5mL dose)" There are 10 doses in this vial.
teriaki 09-28-2005, 04:54 PM I'm vaccinated against Anthrax even though I don't anticipate or would rather not come into contact with it.
Where'd you find an anthrax vaccine?
Maybe you're a part of whatever military experiment is going on on the Island:lol2:
Snabbygail 09-30-2005, 08:49 AM That's a secret. I'd have to kill you if I told you. Or at least do creepy experiments on you. LOL.
Might I add that I just got a booster on Tuesday the thing still hurts like a SOB.
Snabbygail 10-04-2005, 06:33 AM I actually spent some time checking to see if it was a license # by change or matched closely with one. No luck. Came up empty handing. The only thing that I saw that was similar were identification for specific protiens. ??? I suppose it's just another one of those details we don't find out about.
sharimoore 10-10-2005, 02:46 PM Right in front of the numbers on the vial is "Dr." which identifies the doctor's unique ID number for prescribing purposes. The fact that the vial (doctor) number and the numbers outside the hatch are the same, links the two together. Identifying the two as part of the same project. Which supports my belief that this is a scientific project. Desmond injecting himself seemed like part of a daily routine.
And yes it is interesting how the guy in the psych ward kept reciting those numbers over and over again. Previous test subject? Didn't pass the test?
