Generally, when quarantine warnings are posted they are done so those who are outside of the quarantined area are notifed that beyond the point marked is off limits. The warning was posted inside the hatch not the outside meaning it was Desmond in this case who was being warned not to try and leave his "protected" environment. As if he was lead to believe that the outside world had become contaminated........

Indeed, those keeping observations in any experiment must not only control the variables within the experiment, but must also be kept neutral from the effects of the experimental condition itself.

If this is some grand sociological, ecological, psychlogical, biological and clinical pharmacology experiment, as theorized, then the observer and/or controller must remain protected to manipulate the variables as needed and make objective observations without taint.

I think this thing runs deeper than we know. I've speculated in other threads about parallels of LOST to the movie Cube; this only adds to it.
