Anyone else notice Jacks key around his neck being pulled by some sort of magnet....Could it be a huge one that possibly messed up the planes controls and caused it to crash?

Not a bad thought.....

I like all these theories flying around today.

it looked to me like there was some sort of shape on the wall directly where it was being pulled at first i thought it to be a key hole...any screen-shots anywhere?
i agree though i bet that could def. cause the 815 crash and the drug plane....

You can use magnets for all kinds of things....I like the idea that it is used to power Desmond's apartment. It could power a weapon too...not to mention it'll screw up compasses and other equipment.

I'm guessing this is what caused Locke's compass to be off last season. Not sure what episode but Sayid and Jack discuss where true North is. Sayid explains Locke's compass doesn't point North. It's probably the magnet in the hatch that's caused it to be wrong.

i doubt it caused the plane to crash, theirs got to be a better reason then that for the plane crash, plus im sure more planes would crash. and if this magnet could make planes crash, i woyuld definitly think jacks key would be completely pulled off instead of just that light easy tug on the key

Was Locke using his compass when he and Boone found the hatch? If there was a powerful source of magnetism in Desmond's spiderhole, could that have been what led them to the hatch in the first place?

Maybe there are different sized magnets in the hatch or maybe the one that that was attracting the key was behind a very thick wall.

I have no clue why...but I screamed at the top of my lungs at that part! Freaked me out!

If there were a magnet strong enough to pull a plane apart from thousands of miles up, jack's key would have flown to it regardless of if it were behind a giant wall. I'm guessing some kind of generator.

It could be electro-magnetic in nature. This could affect an airplane's navigational systems to make it crash, rather than just pulling the metal toward it. But then why would the old DOS computer still be working? hmm...
