ok a couple things started running through my head about other threads ive seen and stuff. what if hurleys sequence of numbers has something to do with DNA? possibly human cloning? the title man of science, man of faith. men of science would want to explore cloning and its ramifications. men of faith would think cloning is bad because it takes creation out of the hands of God. what if the bunker (looked like a biodome to me) was a place where they were doing experiments on human DNA for purposes of cloning viruses or even humans?

if this has been discussed before, im sorry, i did a search for DNA but nothing came up.

I think we were meant to understand that Jack was the "man of science" and that the "man of faith" was Locke. After watching the episode, I think the title actually refers to the dichotomy in Jack's character. He's obviously a man of science, born and raised. But in this episode he learns a few things about the power of faith, to heal and to bolster strength. Jack's science helps to keep the survivors healthy, but his faith keeps them hopeful, as exemplified by his Churchillian "we're all going to see the sun rise" speech.

Or could the "man of faith" be Desmond, who apparently believes in miracles?
