Sorry if this has already been talked about, I didnt find anything on it. Also I could be way off, but......

I want you to look at a particular scene within the first 2-3 mintues of the show. Desmond wakes up, hops off the bunk bed, goes to his computer and types something in....now what i want you to look at is what happens exactly after he gets up from the computer....it shows a wide shot of him walking over to the record player. Now as he is walking it shows a shot of a few things in his Apt.(lamp, couch, etc..) Now directly above the couch is a picture hanging on the wall. Looks like maybe a painting. Look closely at the picture and you'll see it looks like a jungle setting...if you look it the background of the picture it looks like what could be BLACK SMOKE trailing into the air, very similar to what we saw in season 1.

If anyone has a screencap or has it recorded, look at it. Again i could be way off, but just wanted to see if anyone else thinks it looks
familiar.

I'm going to go home and watch again and see what's in the picture...very interesting...

I looked for the black smoke but didn't see anything. They look like trees to me.

Dont mind what looks like trees....look beyond that.....its tall and thin, the tallest thing on the picture...... way too tall and thin to be trees.....it looks like smoke.

Ok..I went home and rewatched it. I asked my husband what he saw in the picture. (Without telling him about this thread) And he said it looked just like the beach they were on. And then I asked if the thing in the back...the tall thin black thing looked like smoke. And he said it did. So, you've got at least someone who agrees with you! :) I still don't see the smoke though. And it looks more like a desert to me....

I don't think it's black smoke, but in general, don't you find that the apt is a little overly "decorated" for a quarantined, underground, secret hatch?!

if you were quarenteened underground for who knows how long, wouldn'd you want to feel more like the real world??

Yah, Liz....I think that's the picture being discussed...that's the picture I'm referring to at least. I think it looks like a desert though. I think the apartment looks kinda nice...though old. I mean, if you're stuck down there for who knows how long, you gotta have some kind of art on the wall to look at! haha

Nope! The terrain looks like to me like it could be. I've only seen it in pics & videos. We have that Nigerian plane that crashed on the island, so maybe there's some kind of far out connection there. It's hard to make out whats in the pic for sure though!

I think the most interesting thing in the picture is the Ping Pong paddle? Desmond is not alone in his bunker. Who plays ping pong by themselves? And just after this seen, Desmond walks to the kitchen table and there is a game that appears to be two player? Also there is breakfast plates and Orange Juice left at the table? Anyone else notice this?

Yea that was the picture i was talking about.....good one liz_lost........when i look at it close up it still doesnt look like any kind of tree ive ever seen.....but also could be something besides black smoke.....when i first saw it, it was on a blurry tv screen from a distance. But i dont know.

I do know that i didnt notice those ping pong paddles, and thats very interesting.

I would think that if it were the hatch that was quarantined the word would be on the outside. To me since he can see the word it is more like the outside is the quarantined area.

When I first saw the picture it looked like Australia. It reminded me of when Hurley went to talk to the lady about the numbers out in the middle of know where.

That's definitely the desert in the picture, not a jungle. Too many light browns and that looks like a Joshua tree.

What if the "Others" or "The Hatch People" are all over? There are islands that could match the picture, and its possible that what ever experiment the Hatch People are doing could be done on other islands as well, with other "Survivors".

Interesting. Not just the length of Noah's flood but the Israelites spent 40 years wandering around in the desert, after their flight from Egypt. Jesus spent 40 days in the desert before he waa crucified. 40 days in lent. 40 days after Easter is Pentecost.

Also, I was watching the first episodes, and noticed that Locke like to play backgammon. Did anyone question what happend when he saw the thing in the jungle in the 3rd episode, and since there was a half played backgammon game going on...makes you think.

Kinda off topic, but wasn't there a famous french painter named rousseau who had a picture of a jungle type setting. It reminded me of lost now that I think of it...am I just making things up here?

Definitely. Every REAL Lost fan should get HDTV. It settles a lot of stupid matters easily and provides the most accurate depiction of what we should be getting from the episode more clearly than standard quality.

What i find interesting is the word quarantine is written on the INSIDE of the hatch. the side that you would write on is the outside for people who may find it. quartering is usually used to keep people out.

As I watched this again (on my HDTV) you can almost make out the number in the last slot - 06. This could be a countdown or a calendar telling the date - 01/01/06

"They" may have, but if it was meant to be a 40 day period for the people inside then THEY certainly didn't come out after 40 days. They appeared to be snuggled up in there, exercising, eating, playing records, reseting the security system. Didn't look like they were in any rush to get out........

Quarantine was written on the inside of the hatch, that means Desmond was not in quarantine the outside is.

Quarantine Desmond Why? and if it is only for 40 days where do you go after the 40 days? i mean if it is some experiment they are not going to drop you off and say " dont tell the other kids where you have been" Is that where the others come from?

It IS the complete picture. I cropped it out of the high def frame and keystoned it !! :confused:

Anyway. I think it's a framed photo print of a desert scene. Possibly in the Mojave desert. The trees are Joshuas, I feel.

Sounds like an old magician's trick...They focus your attention somewhere so you don't see what is REALLY important/of concern/debatable/etc.

Does anyone think that maybe the reason that the lava in the lamp is different, is because when a show gets filmed, they don't shoot one scene after another. it's possible this was just an oops.
