Do you have one of the washer/dryer? I am curious why they went through so much effort with the 70's look but use a washer/dryer from extreme makeover home edition.

Anyone else notice in the wide shot of the apartment, with desmond's elbow in the top left corner, the arc of the doors make a 4, and the washer dryer make an 8 on it's side. Anybody?

48 seems to be desmond's number.

Terrific caps, thanks for this! I noticed that in the image that shows the 42 and 108 on the mural, you can also see 16 very clearly just under and to the left of the 108. I wonder if all the numbers in the sequence are somewhere in that mural. Any other images that we haven't checked out with a magnifying glass yet?

Great screen caps!

By looking over both pictures I have found there are at least 3 houses and at least 4 fish.

There is a sign that something was being counted on the left side (the four vertical lines with a line through them method that seems to add up to 30).

There is an arrow pointing....

Next to the arrow, to the left, the word 'out' is surrounded by a yellow border.

The numbers 108 appear twice, one in the middle of what could be a sun or an explosion, and again to the bottom left.

Could that be a face or skull at the top of the '108 and 42' mural image?

On the part of the mural that says 'sick' there appears to be an eye and the letter 'M'... Eye M Sick?

Things to ponder I suppose.

From JJ Abrams ABC bio,

Born in New York and raised in Los Angeles, Abrams developed a passion for movies at the age of eight when his grandfather took him on a Hollywood studio tour. That night, J.J. asked his father if he could use his Super 8mm camera to make his own films and, after much cajoling, his father conceded. Over the next 10 years, Abrams made countless amateur films.

Abrams attended Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY where, during his senior year, he teamed with a friend to write a feature film treatment, which became Taking Care of Business.

Ok someone who knows about computers...how old is that computer on the desk? It seems like a dinosaur! The new washer/dryer and other various new appliances (i.e. blender is new too) and mixture of old stuff like exercise bike, record player , computer...its all just wierd.

How long ago did Jack get married and meet his wife? Desmond can't have been in the hatch that long. And it seems to me that he most definately doesn't live alone.

The murial..it definately says I'm sick! Of course the I is actually a picture of an eye.

It has to be a disease...Hurley was in psyc ward...those numbers that the other patient kept mumbling to him...that he used for lottery and are all over everything...this guy had to of been infected with the disease too! I know this has to have something to do with it.

Also has anyone checked out if the tattoo on Jack & the symbol on the medicine locker have any similarites

The computer is most likely no older than 1977. It does not have "F" keys, it does not have an Escape Key, it has no number pad, and it appears to only have one "shift" or "control" type of key.

Considering the Apple II looks so similar, I would say this computer was manufactured after the Apple IIc was introduced, which is 1977:

If someone else has already posted something like this, I apologize, kinda.

I went ahead and made a crude recreation of the logo on the cabinet.

http://img332.imageshack.us/my.php?image=lostoctogonsymbol8sn.jpg

Analyzing it, each wedge of the octogon has three rows of lines made up of either one long line, or two shorter lines. Each wedge has a unique combination of short or long lines. Starting at the 12 oclock position and going clockwise, they are:
Long, short short, Long
short short, short short, short short
Long, Long, short short
Long, Long, Long
short short, Long, short short
short short, short short, Long
Long, short short, short short
short short, Long, Long

I tried lining them up with Morse code, but for many of them, there aren't corresponding letters or numbers.

The shape in the middle seems to be a circle with an S shape going through the middle, with the top of the S possibly being a snake head.

There is a word or name that cuts horizontally through the center of the circle, but I couldn't make anything out to even speculate.

The groupings of the lines seems familiar somehow, but I can't place it. I'm sure some other more knowledgeable person on this board will be able to shed more light on this.

That is probably about right. The system he is using is pretty outdated, as everything is stored on magnetic tape. It kinda reminds me of a military computer system, like something that you might see in a missle silo. The military (and other govt entities like NASA) tend to keep computer systems around for a long time, as they tend to be much more reliable and tested than newer technology. I think a few years ago, NASA bought something like 17,000 spare 286 processor chips for the space shuttle. Those haven't been made sine the 1980s.

Not sure if it's relevant but:

Jack worked at St. Sebastian hospital.
St. Sebastian is the saint associated with the plague. The French lady kept talking about how the others got sick and the mural supposedly reads "I am sick".

Desmond is the one who asked Jack if he believed in miracles. It was odd that he called Jack "brother". The lady in the hospital that was healed goes on to be Jack's wife. From a website on St. Sebastian:

"During Diocletian's persecution of the Christians, Sebastian visited them in prison, bringing supplies and comfort. Reported to have healed the wife of a brother soldier by making the Sign of the Cross over her."

The machine over Desomond's right shoulder is a reel to reel recorder/player. It has a music reel on the left side, the side the tape starts from. I have some of these types of music reels, including one by the Beatles, which do not hold much tape (thus the larger hub in the center) and usually a half-label listing the artist and song list for that side. These were popular in the 1970's.

http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/9230/hatch45bu.jpg
Hatch Interior

In this image, the same reel to reel machine seems to be backwards, as though the image was reversed. Notice the box with all the lights and switches on it is now on the other side of the reel to reel. Was the footage shown this way or has the image in fact been reversed?

Also seen is quite a collection of record albums for the record player that is on the next shelf down.

The lava lamp adds a nice 1970's feel to the room as well.

Anyone see anything else?

THANKS FOR THIS!! It opens a few possibilities - Did Desmond actually heal Sara? In another thread, there is a discussion of when Sara in her hospital bed tells Jack that he smells and he explains that he showered after his run, but she insists that he smells like he was running...could it be the lingering smell of a sweaty Desmond who went into her room while Jack was showering? That would be fascinating.

And the plague reference is extremely relevant considering the 'sickness' that Danielle says wiped out her team and, yes, the mural.

WOW, WOW, WOW, what a great find!
