Boy howdy, I've been trying to post for a while but the site is so busy that it is like Times Square on New Year's Eve and you can't get in! I wanted to use the spring board of the GREAT line that Desmond spoke to Jack during the "tour de stad", when he said "See you in another life", to start off some musings on "the others" and also THE big mystery of what is going on in that underground world. I had suspected that he was the guy from the hatch all along during that conversation, as I was sure I recognized him from his hair and build. In any case, he was radiating "otherness" from every pore to me. But when he spoke that terrific line "I'll see you in another life", I felt sure that this guy was at least an other and probably the guy from the hatch, and that he was alluding to the fact that he will indeed see Jack again once Jack is brought to the island for whatever purpose. But what I particularly LOVE about that line, and KUDOS to the writers for this double entendre, is that you could also hear it as "See you in an other life". As in, BIG HINT to the fans that this guy is "an other" and we will see him again, as will Jack, in his life as "an other". Brilliant line!!!!!!!!! How much do we love the LOST writing team? Answer key: quite a lot!

Anyway, on to discussing the whole concept of all these others running around off the island, before--sometimes years before--the crash of flight 815. To me, and this gets into speculation, so if you don't like reading too specific speculation, run, hide, but please don't die, as I'm about to engage in some: it seems like this thing going on on that island, be it military experimentation gone bad, military experimentation still going ON, biological weapons and/or biological TREATMENTS for things (like spinal cord injury) being conducted by some CORPORATION(S), some sort of Biosphere II gone wild type thaaang, or WHATEVER we have going on, is waaaaay big. As in, it involves a LOT of people who are not on the island, and it seems to be very well-funded. Why they can't get a computer newer than the ancient one in the hatch that has an "execute" key instead of "enter", or a CD player versus a record player, etc., I don't know, as they seem to be able to move people back and forth fairly regularly, and they had a lot of items in that hatch newer than the old stuff, even some perishable fruits...but perhaps the perishable fruits were grown hydroponically or something INSIDE that whole Biosphere-esque underground environment? I don't know, but I'm just saying that it seems to me there are a LOT of "others" out in the world. A lot of people in on this. From Desmond, to all the people in on Locke's whole "kidney operation" that I think wasn't a kidney operation, to Claire's psychic, to the guy that basically ordered Sawyer to get on Oceanic flight 815, to Peik's (how in the HECK do ya spell PEIK *lol*) corporation being bent on Jin and Sun being on the flight, to the mysterious death of Walt's mom and then Brian giving Michael two tickets to the flight, etc., I mean, this thing is BIG and international and well-funded and involves a whale of lot of PEOPLE.

Thoughts?

Interesting thought...I'll have to listen again...but the "an Other" life is a good catch.

I think it's also much bigger then we realize. It's got to be more then just about them on the island right now...I think you're right. And more then just all a coincidence. They were all put there on purpose...perhaps by some group or corporation or government. Good ideas!

I mentioned this on another site, I couldn't break into this one - I knew this board would be nuts today, anyway I got a weird cult vibe from Desmond when he said "Brother" and "See you in another life." It almost feels like its some sort of weird institutional experiment gone awry with Desmond as it's tin-foil hat wearing leader.

And I would like to take this opportunity to do a happy dance because I finally got a post in. *HAPPY DANCE*

Ya, it was creepy the way he was talking with Jack...like he was trying to drop hints to him. I mean who says "See you in another life" anyways??

Hmm... interesting ideas... I like the "see you in an other life" reference... that's something to think about... but... how, if they were all purposely placed on the island by the government, did the government determine who would survive the crash?

Yeah, I thought that was kinda weird that Desmond said "See you in another life". I don't know many people who would say that to someone they just met, which is why I agree that Desmond probably knew that he was going to see Jack again.

That's true. And I was a little puzzled over the fact that Desmond was using what looked like an orange anti-bacterial dish washing soap. Wonder where he does his shopping?

Thank you, Amalyntor!
