As it has previously mentioned in other threads, Desmond's Medicine containers all include the numbers on their individual labels CR 4 - 8151623 - 42. If you notice when Desmond then goes to the gun locker the combination shows it starting on 23 and then he turns to 42 to open. I am rewatching for other instances.

I think he definately knows something about the numbers... its too big of a coincidence for his stuff to have the numbers on it ..

On another thread it says there's a 42 on the mural & when Desmond is riding the exercise bike, it reads 16 mph.

The number 42 also showed up in the mural, next to a picture of a fish, over a house that said "Sick". 108 was inside a picture of the sun. Definitely looked like a child's drawing. Maybe Alex?

I believe that 16 was also on the painting, and 108 is the sum of the numbers. I'm pretty sure that the numbers, separated by spaces, were typed at the green computer prompt...

Wow, you people are smart! I never picked up that 108 was the sum of the numbers. And that painting seemed to say I'M SICK somewhere. Could be Alex, but the paint looked like it had been used recently. As we saw other buckets and stuff, they were caked in dust and dirt. The paint wasnt. I wonder why...?

It's got all kinds of crazy info about all number references from season 1... i cant imagine what it looks like now after the season 1 dvd's have been out for people to get easy access reviewing.

It should also be noted that the password that Desmond uses on the computer is, you guessed it, 4815162342.

The only key strokes that are actually visable are 4 (by relative hand position), 8, 15, 16 (all by visable keystroke as well as the 2 in 23). Lastly the 42 is punched via sequence of fingers and hand position)

Is anyone else besides me picking up on the number 5 references? they are very subtle, and not part of the original obvious set. There is a 5 on the mural, Desmond has the game "Pente" (greek for 5) out, Charlies solo album is called "Pente", and has 5 songs on it, Jack has a 5 on his Tattoo which has been said to be worked in. Also 23 is the 5th number in the sequence and 2+3=5. Kate was counting to 5, like Jack told her he does, Desmond and Jack were sitting in Sec. 25 which is 5x5.

I think you'll find that the combination stopped on 48 not 42.

There were 23 survivors from the tail section before all the deaths.

Also, when Jack is sitting in the chair in Sarah's hospital room (in the scene where she wakes up)...there is an "8" on the blue supply cart next to Jack, directly above his left knee in the scene. :)

When Locke's mother comes up to him in the store she asks where the footballs are he says Nerf aisle 8 and regulation aisle 15.

There are many other references through out the show at least one per episode more usually though not all of them are out right mentioning of the numbers some are like the last two examples. Damon Lindelof said in a podcast that he didn't know what the numbers meant and couldn't begin to think how they could explain them. I hope he was being sarcastic which I think he was because they are just used way to much to mean nothing.

I didn't like that TV Guide interview where one of the writers admits that we may never really know the meaning or significance of the numbers. Perhaps, it is just a ruse to divert our attention. The placement of the numbers in every little thing has to be making the writers wet themselves. I bet they are getting a kick out of us reading too much into the significance of the numbers, etc....I am sure there is an overall scheme of what the numbers mean, but after that...we will probably never know the real reason for the numbers.

I think people have been bringing in all these Hindu beliefs and Bible references in to what the numbers actually mean, but what the writers are saying is that there is no special meaning to the numbers themselves, but there has to be some reason why they are typing those specific numbers in and why it's all over the place and why the guy in the psych ward was saying them over and over again to Hurley.

i didn't feel like doing a search to see if anyone's brought this up about the numbers... but i think it's odd that if you use a simple code like A = 1 B = 2 C = 3 ...

4 would equal D, 8 would equal H... the first two letters of DHARMA. There are also as many numbers in the code as there are letters in DHARMA. the code breaks down because 15 doesn't equal an 'A'... but maybe it's just slightly trickier in some way.
