One thing I find odd is that there are 30+ other people on the island. Yet they never have any sort of presence.
- It seems that at the beginning they should have at least voted for a leader. Hard to imagine a group of americans not using voting as a form of decision making. It's so engrained in our culture -- especailly for picking leaders.
- It also is difficult to imagine that none of the other 30 or so folks are doing anything like hunting or mapping the island, that they're just sitting around. And never voice any sort of opinion of about what is happening.
there should also be more australians in the other 30 i imagine
I thought the lack of australians was strange considering it was a Sydney flight too. Only Claire, but it is an american show I guess.

My impression, and I think part of arzt's purpose was to introduce this idea into the show, is that these things are indeed happening. These happenings are just not part of the stories we're seeing. That folks are talking, planning, and helping out. Hunting is a very specialized activity that a person has to be good at. Mapping is also not something just anyone can do.
Next time you are on a plane, ask yourself how many of them could lead, hunt, map, or gather. My experience with people in an extreme situation (florida hurricanes) is that they will not all rise to the challenge, and that many will need leadership, and will gravitate "naturally" to a person who can do that job.
In everyday life we all know folks who are natural leaders, and folks who are not.

While on a flight recently I thought it was strange that there wasn't a single flight attendant who survived. Some are probaby with the tail of the plane, but there should have been at least one tending to the 1st class passengers in the front...
I agree about Artz and yes, the clique.
Umm they are plane wrecked on a deserted island, and they are all nationalities. Also, if there were that many people stranded on an istland I can guarantee you half of them would sit around and do nothing. We are all used to things being easy and most people are pretty darn lazy ha ha. Also, I really seriously would be concerned if they voted for a type of leader that Jack is. He does not tell them exactly what to do, but yet is just kinda the one everyone is drawn to to listen to.

I don't want to burst any bubbles here, beacause I love this show, but lets not forget that this is a television show, and the producers really can't afford to give thirty different people something to do and say each week. Talk about continuity problems! After all, they didn't start from a tropic port aboard a tiny ship.... ;)
