Okay... first off... i LOVED the premiere, so don't get me wrong. It totally blew my mind.

But I'm also a little worried. The episode felt rushed. If this was last season, we would never have gotten as far as seeing Desmond. And of course, I know why. They felt pressured to reveal a lot because so many people were upset with the finale last season. But that bothers me. If too much is revealed this season, then what is going to happen next season? And the season after that? This show is so great, we don't need immediate answers to be entertained. In fact, to me, it's BETTER when things are revealed much slower. I'm going to be so bummed if they reveal too much this season because some fans can't enjoy the show for what it is.

What do you guys think?

They say alot will be explained in these three first episodes. I like havin a bit more at once then last year but agree don't want everything let out of the bag to fast.

I can see where you’re coming from, but I don't completely agree. Sure, the writers were pressured into revealed the contents of the hatch, but they also opened up a lot questions. And there are still a lot of questions still left unanswered, some of which they are in no hurry to answer, such as the Monster, the Others, the Numbers, and the back stories for quite a characters.

I personally don't think the episode was rushed. The writers made sure they evenly placed all the hatched scenes in the beginning and end. This was the first episode out of the gate, so they had to give the fans something to whet their appetite for answers.

I disagree. I think the folks behind Lost are doing things "just right". As a fan of shows like "The X-Files" and "Twin Peaks", I found that often I got completely lost trying to understand the mytharc, or there were too many tangential storylines going on for each of the characters. It could be frustrating, and I'd drop in and out as a viewer, simply because there was a good chance my questions weren't going to be answered anyway, especially on "The X-Files", where 75% percent of the shows were stand-alone episodes, and about 25% directly progressed the mytharc.

With Lost, I like how each show is fundamentally important to the big picture and how each time we get more answers, but also more questions, and things aren't drawn out too long. I think they've hit the nail on the head in terms of how to keep the viewers captivated and keep the story moving at the same time. I wouldn't change a thing.

I agree. They did have to do some things the first few episodes. But, this whole thing with Desmond. He might have a lot of answers, but there are 4 things that might happen. All of which can change everything.

1) Desmond is a nice guy. He and Jack might put their guns down and everyone has a nice chat and reveal a lot of stuff.

2) Desmond is captured, and keps his moth shut, except for a few cryptic answers.

3) Desmond is shot, and killed, with no more answers than they can find in his lair.

4) Desmond gets away, but leaves a certain clue. (Right now, my favorite.)

So, they can put the brakes on the situation, if they feel they need to.

i didn't think too much was jammed in, because we never even saw the rafters, we didn't really hear too much from anyone, but locke, jack, kate & desmond.

did charlie take the H-bomb yet? did he throw it away? What's Claire up to? Is Desmond an other? Does he know Danielle? Where has Lostzilla been lately? Tthey really only focused on the hatch, we still have much material.

I think I read awhile ago on the fuse that they have enough material for at least 5 seasons, soooo..should be all good

I don't think things are moving too quickly. If they had dragged the opening of the hatch out any longer people would have lost interest and when they finally did open the hatch it wouldn't have meant as much. A few weeks back Stephen King wrote a great column in Entertainment Weekly in which he basically dared the Producers of Lost to finish the show once they have told the story no matter how good the ratings were. I kinda hope this happens, cause it's not pretty when they drag a show out just because the money's too good to walk away from.

I totally agree~!!!
We don't need everything explained to us. This show is for those who enjoy mystery and like to use their heads.
Those that want everything all tied up neatly at the end of each episode should watch the comedy shows ;)

honestly, Id rather have 4-5 quick-paced entertaining seasons, than 8-9 slow, dragged on seasons

JEESUS. I can't even believe someone is complaining about that episode. It was an awesome hour of TV. This season isn't going to be anything like last season. Get used to it. They told stories a certain way last season for certain reasons. The first season they had the lay out the foundation and let people get settled into the shows internal logic.

This season the will not have to do that. They can move the stories forward a bit quicker. It's notlike the episode gave us any damn answers. It showed us what was in the hatch without revealing ANYTHING beyond that. It was a great way to start up this season.

I just got my LOST magazine (not the companion book) and you have nothing to worry about. Yes, they did want to at least reveal to us what's in the hatch but I think, with the way they left us last season, if they didn't at least show us what's down there a lot of fans would have bailed. But just by seeing that it's Desmond doesn't mean that it's all been revealed. It opens up more questions and connections. Trust me, there is much, much more still to come!

I actually think that this seasons premiere, should of been last seasons finale.

Not me! I like the pace last season went at and so far I like this season. We got just enough to make us tune in tomorrow so we can find out more about Desmond and his connection to Jack. And we don't even know what's up with Kate yet!

In the LOST magazine I just got, they say that they are working on a new background story for Shannon ... one that will explain why she was like she was. I think that's intersting that they haven't even written that yet. See ... they have lots to give us.

Hey, they didn't win an Emmy for Best Drama for nothing!

Oh, I totally don't agree.

LOST follows the style of the old One Reelers that were shown in theaters back in the 20s & 30s. Anyone here ever heard of The Perils of Pauline? That was one of the most successful One Reelers and they always left poor Pauline in some state of peril. Like she was left tied to a conveyer belt, heading for a huge buzsaw, or hanging from a cliff by a small branch, or tied to the railroad tracks and the train approaching. Then ... WHAM! It would say, "Will Pauline be saved? Find out next week!" And the fans would flock to the theaters the next week to see what happened to Pauline. If they had showed them she got free then, there would have been no rush to go back the next time. This same tactic was done with One Reelers like Superman, Tarzan, and other heros. It's called 'the cliff hanger' (because of the Perils of Pauline type stories). It leaves you hanging and wanting for more.

If they'd showed us Desmond in the finale ... the real excitement would have been doused. People would have said things like, "It's just a guy down there?" or "That's all??" But with us having to wait all summer and then finding Desmond and knowing that we'll find out more about him the next week, we're tuned in for certain.

They know what they're doing alright! I won't be surprised if they win an Emmy next year, too!!

I mean alot of people biatched about leaving the hatch hanging all summer, but in reality all it did was give us a whole summer to come up with all kinds of crazy ideas of whats down there.

Plus this as a finale really would have driven me insane!

Amen. I know we've said it once, twice and three times a lady, but let's say it again: X-Files!

It's funny because now there are a few threads where people are complaining that the second eppy gave *no* real answers. LOL "You can please some of the people some of the time, and most of the people most of the time but you can't please all of the people all of the time."

So far, including season one, I have zero complaints!

Me as well. There are a few episodes where the flashbacks seem to have more screentime than the island did (and this is when you *really* wanted to know what was going on with the island stuff) and it seemed to be a little aggravating...

but in the end it always paid off. The suspense still lingered, the story progressed, and I became pretty impressed with the writers. I'm really looking forward to episode 3.

Me, too! That last scene from "Adrift" really had me on the edge of my chair ... much like the end of season one!
