hmm... doesnt explain the origin of the whispers

kaiise

the best clue is the content of the whispers!
they seem to be implying a more complex relationship between the island groups and/or disparate groups. ALso their benign/neutral outlooks differentiate themselves form what we have been told about the others.
the *other* others?

ie the others is an umbrella term like "law enforcement"

the others are those not:-

danielle
mid section survivors
tail section

this leaves
the pirates
desmond/the pagua corporation group
ethan
the whisperers

since no one has seen the others except maybe the rafties, we can only speculate at how the group(s) really work.

Could someone please tell me how to do the blackout/spoiler font? I've tried typing <spoiler> blah blah blah </spoiler> but nothing works. If you would be kind enough to maybe private message me about it, I would REALLY appreciate it! Thank you :D

:24: That would definitely explain why its taken so long!

Hah! What if The Others are FEMA? What if they came to rescue Danielle 16 years ago and could only find the baby? That would be hilarious!!!

its not </spoiler

Its [/spoiler.

Dont use the HTML chevrons. Instead use brackets. Here is an example with some periods added to the text so that it doesnt actually spoiler font it.

[.spoiler] This would be a spoiler [./spoiler]

Just take that and remove the periods.

If FEMA did come, that would explain why the
"slave descendents were still there"
. - oh man! Burn!

I doubt it. There doesn't appear to be a duly elected Governor of the island to fill out the proper paperwork requests.

FEMA would just hang around off shore, scratching their heads and saying, "Gee. Looks like people are dying on that island. We'd be happy to help if they were clever enough to figure out where to send us an invitation."

Yeah...they don't have phones or internets to contact them by and since they don't have a list of their "needs" right handy, this would throw FEMA off so much they wouldn't know whether to scratch their watch or wind their butts. Oh wait...that would be their normal modus operandi! :45:

I can just see Michael Brown appearing in the final episode telling everyone that he was just waiting for approval from the Homeland Security Department, while in the background you hear the disembodied voice of Artz saying "your doing a hell of a job Brownie"

Easier for the spoiler thing is to swipe over the text till it's highlighted blue.

You know hold down the left mouse button.

Then click on the S in the black box above. That way you dont have to remember how to do the brackets etc. if you don't want to get involved in the html.

See

And the background music would be either Five for Fighting's "Superman" or Tina Turner's "Beyond Thunderdome"! "We don't need another hero.....we don't need to find the way home... :serenade:
Ooh...:tomato: I'll stop now.

But back on topic....

I have been pondering what was found in The Black Rock. Danielle seemed to believe that the "sickness" originated there. I've read frightening and horrific stories about the slave trade and there's some good fodder for evil to appear on the island through that ship.

What I wonder about is the tower that is transmitting Danielle's signal, they should have looked for that while being there, she said it was "up by the black rock"

I think this is a very valid point. It could be that somehow the island became cursed when it was washed up on the island. Maybe one of the slaves that were chained in the ship was a shaman or something and place some kind of curse on anybody that came on the island. Maybe the "Others" have been cursed with the sickness and no one killed them because of it. We may be getting into spoiler territory here. I don't know. It will be interesting to see if anyone goes back and explores this ship. What if the numbers are on it somewhere??

Something just occurred to me.

What if "the sickness" isn't actually contageous at all. What if it is simply a condition which makes the Others really creepy in some way.

If we assume the original inhabitants of the island got there on The Black Rock. And we assume further there were both males and females on The Black Rock, then we can assume the Others are their descendants.

This would make the Others the product of many generations of inbreeding. This practice leads to a wide variety of creepy physical and mental effects.

Now ... Danielle believes the sickness can be spread ... but what if what she thinks of as the sickness is actually only the reaction to the creepiness of the Others?

For example - if I am around someone who I find creepy, it affects my behavior. If I were to find myself in forced close quarters (say an escape proof island) with a group of people I found to be both creepy and frightening, I can only imagine how bizarre my behavior might appear to someone who was not creeped out by those people ... say someone who had never seen them ...

Remember ... Danielle told Sayid she had never actually seen any of the others. She said she heard them, but she didn't say when. Perhaps the other members of her research party did see the Others ... and reacted to them in a way Danielle interpreted as irrational ... and therefore "sick". Maybe she didn't believe the others in her party had seen anyone at all (Shannon, anyone). Maybe Danielle thought they were imagining the Others, and therefore she thought they were nuts.

And naturally she would assume that whatever made them go nuts (and force her to kill them) was a disease of some kind, because large numbers of people don't just spontaneously go nuts all at once for no reason.

I think I need sleep.

From what I understand,

the black man was a suvivor from the Nigerian Drug Plane, or so we were led to think.

and not on the plane or an Other

plus I doubt the descendants or whatever wear nice shirts and skirts while dragging unconcious people through the woods... one woman that was pulling Michael, Jin, and Sawyer while they were in the net was dressed very nicely
