In the Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, a king gives Santiago a white stone and a black stone and tells him that they are called Urim and Thummim. The king tells Santiago that black signifies 'yes,' and the white one 'no.' When you are unable to read the omens , they will help you to do so. Always ask an objective question.

Urim and Thummim typically translate as "lights and perfections" or "revelation and truth".

Some scholars have suggested "the" Urim and Thummim consists of two crystals; however, the precise nature of the medium is unknown to most secular scholars. According to the Hebrew Bible, stones used for "an" Urim and Thummim were kept in the breastplate of Aaron, the brother of Moses.

In LOST episode #106 ,House of the Rising Sun, after running away from bees, in the cave, they discover the dead bodies. Jack pulls a black pouch from one the dead bodies and empties it's contents...a black stone and a white stone.

So, when are we going to see Jack use the stones?

Did Joanna (the woman Boone tried to save from drowning) really drown? Perhaps, the "dharma shark" got her.

as for joanna, yes she did indeed die. as far as the shark goes, perhaps... poor joanna :(
