I'm with ya, I hope he doesn't die this week either! He'd make a very interesting new character I think ^^ And despite the fact that he threatened to blow my fav. character's head off.. I still like him... so long as he doesn't kill Locke, lol. Or Jack for that matter!

The people in charge of casting must be very good. All of the actors have been great. Finding out that the actor Henry Ian Cusick has played the part of Jesus and remembering the part where Desmond questioned Jack about miracles (and you don't believe in miracles?) in the stadium. Well, they really picked the right actor to ask that question. The confrontation scene with Locke and Kate was very good.

! He'd make a very interesting new character I think

the actor Henry Ian Cusack has played the part of Jesus

You've never seen Jesus portrayed quite this way!

He's elicited a lot of emotion among the fans while playing Desmond.

Desmond has put Scotland back on the map!

If they give Desmond his own area - that means they are not writing him off ....RIGHT?????? (at least I am hoping that is the case...)

Finding out Desmond's story since the run at the stadium should make for a good show.

You are so right! He obviously has as good of a story to how he got there on the island than any of the lostaways! The theories are abounding on this board as to why he's down there and what changed him from being that spiritual, caring and sensitive man in the stadium to an arsnal packing hermit in a bunker 50 feet below ground on an uncharted tropical island.

If there ain't a story in there somewhere ... it's not our dear writers that are looking at it!

I am SO happy he has his own section!!

LONG LIVE DESMOND!!!!

Well, I'm glad he has his own board. He makes a very cool new character. He actually makes you want to know more about him, and he's an excellent actor. I love just about everyone on LOST, but it took me a few episodes to really like them. I liked desmond right off the bat.

Something about Desmond creeps me out. Not that he's not a good character. That wild look in his eyes when he looks over Locke's shoulder at Jack is freaky. He has a crazed "I've been locked in this hatch way too long" look.

But that's just one time that we see that look and I have a feeling it's more directed at Jack than his being locked up in that bunker.

If you have the first two eppys on tape, play them back and watch Desmond closely. He is nearly the sweet guy that Jack met while running. He doesn't go into "comando" mode until the hatch is blown open and who could blame him? You'd go "comando" if your front door was blown open too! LOL

But watch him interact with Locke as he gets more time with him. He's easy going and talks fairly easily with Locke considering the circumstances. It isn't until the computer goes off that we see the crazed man again ... and when we see that it's some kind of count-down machine, again ... who can blame him? Maybe it blows up the bunker if not reset on time ... whatever it does, it had him majorly worried!

And then he gets that look in his eyes when he peeks out from behind Locke. One reason may be that Jack has a gun pointed in his direction, another may be that he finally recognizes him.

But over all, Desmond isn't as crazy as he first comes across. He's got a back story that's really worth telling! I really, really hope the writers know this and give it to us eventually.

Lift it up, bruhtha!

Desmond does not act anything different than what I do when invaded in my home, and I think that is a very simple concept, protect your home and surroundings, most of all, your well being. It is not so different than Danielle, but I fear she is actually a bit crazier.....it has been longer for her.

Exactly! Who wouldn't act like that if someone blew their front door open? They're lucky he was waiting for someone and didn't just shoot them on the spot!

Great observation, Penguin! I agree. I really believe that the "crazed Desmond" was simply due to his bunker being invaded. He had no idea what Locke, Kate or Jack had planed for him.

It was very nice to see that original, gentle Desmond from the first meeting.

The craziness, it occurred to me, may be from lack of sleep...having to wake up every 108 minutes over a few years time would make one quite loco...not to mention the cabin fever, isolation, sensory deprivation of sorts...

Wonder how he will fare out there in the foliage...

I agree with that, too. I think Desmond will first be a bit hesitant due to having to keep cover but once he feels more at ease, I think he's going to begin to enjoy it ... though he will, I'm sure miss his hot showers, blender drinks and other things. I just hope the tail section folks never find him!

When did he do that, stircrazy? They show him taking the food, the vials and injector, the bunny and Bible but I never saw him grab a gun. He'd have to have gone into the gun room to get one because all of the other guns were "occupied" after Jack took command. But, we don't know if there was anything in that backpack before he started filling it up. I hope he has at least a knife or it's going to be really hard on him in the jungle.

Look at all the wonderful actors that have come from the RSC and other Shakesspeare companies. Noting beats live theatre. Acting is hard work. Good acting is really hard work. If you ever have the chance to work on any kind of stage production, go for it. Build sets, stage manage, costume, act. If you are lucky you will have an experience like no other. I have to say I have a soft spot for Musical's and Shakespeare or black box. It's either really big or very intimate. So on your summer vacation, find your local community theatre, see if they need any help on their next production. If you want to act, audition. The time is here, the place is now.....You'll have a summer you will always remember.

Some of my best memories and experiences were when I did community theatre (musicals). I made a mean Dulcenea in Man of LaMancha and Mother Superior in The Sound of Music. Also did Finnian's Rainbow and Paint Your Wagon. Ahhh ... those were the days. But I found my real niche is Improv. I was a member of the Santa Monica Second City for almost 2 years (before they shut down). Now that was great! I did the lights for their last show ... Ryan Styles & Andy Dick were in the cast. Great guys and great times! I'd love to do it again but just no time. But I have my memories.

The horse will be back. I just want a better pic of him. The Jorge pic is something I found b/c my bff send each other Hurley pics on myspace as comments. I just thought it was funny.

What color horse would he look good on? Personally I would like to see him on a Palomino, but if the setting was the English country side, that wouldn't be realistic. I think a big chestnut with a star would be fitting.

Chica--go to bed and stop trying to tie LOST and Doctor Who together in weird ways! :D

McGann was the actor who played the Doctor on the online Doctor Who special a few years back, right? Cuz as I remember it, the last Doctor on the TV show (before it went off the air in 1989) was played by Sylvester McCoy.

I think if Ian is going to do TV, I'd rather have him on quality shows (like LOST!) which I can tune in even without cable/satellite. Since I have neither. :wink1:

Okay, cool. I don't know why I was thinking McGann. *investigates* Oh--McGann played 2nd Lt. Bush in said miniseries. That explains it. (At least I think it's said miniseries. 2003? I don't know, it was some project called "Horatio Hornblower" and McGann played 2nd Lt. Bush.)

McGann was the actor who played the Doctor on the online Doctor Who special a few years back, right? Cuz as I remember it, the last Doctor on the TV show (before it went off the air in 1989) was played by Sylvester McCoy.

McCoy was number 7. McGann played the Doctor in the made-for-TV-movie which was of dubious canonicity until the producers firmly announced that Eccleston was number 9.

I think if Ian is going to do TV, I'd rather have him on quality shows (like LOST!) which I can tune in even without cable/satellite. Since I have neither. :wink1:

Save The Humans

- What happened to Desmond, Eko, and Locke is directly tied to Kate, Jack, and Sawyer's situation with the others.

- Henry Ian Cusick did in fact sign on as a "guest star," as did the actress playing "Penelope."

I really really really really really really really REALLY hope that that second one is NOT true!

Nothing less than regular's status for Ian!

Besides, where the heck is Desmond supposed to disappear to THIS time?

This is driving me crazy. I just hope this dude is WRONG.

After his Emmy nomination, and all the nice things Damon & Cuse have said about him in that one podcast? "Nothing at all" is NOT an option here!

Though everyone at LOST and ABC seem to understand what a good actor Ian is, I sometimes wonder if we Desmondites are the only ones who see what a wonderful addition to the regular cast he'd be! I just don't understand all this. :dongetit: What we must keep in mind is how Desmond plays into the "entire" storyline. If he is not a character that will be a central focus point, adding him to the regular cast list doesn't make sense. They have a story to tell and hiring an actor, no matter how popular and loved, to the regular cast when his character isn't going to be used in most of the episodes just doesn't make sense as they have to pay him for all eppys even if he's only in a few.

I just want him back for season 3 and hope that we won't have to have a huge gap of non-Desmond eppys in between ones that he's in.

All I really wish for is him to survive the blast. If he is alive, (not a ghost, not a memory), than in time anything can occur.

And about the fact that only us fans get his talent, importance aso, I am convinced that it is not so. I read a lot of things around, and many think him a great addition to the show. In fact, I read very very few opinions to the contrary.

And "if" he has prior commitments, they may not be able to comment on them yet (that happens often in this business).

But I totally agree that the tie-ins that we've been given do lead us to think Desmond is a vital part of the whole story but he might not be as focused on in season 3 since Damon and Carlton have said that season 3 will focus on the Others. But with their also saying there will be more romance in S3, we know we'll see Desmond and Penny.

I've heard that (don't think this one is too much of a spoiler)

the major romance line to be developed will be between J/J/K

and also that

Penny will come to the island, looking for Des of course...she will encounter Michael along the way, ask for his help, and he will help her, in part to try and make amends for his prior actions

has anyone else heard about the latter spoiler encounter?

I'm trying to remember! I actually heard/read about it more than once, although, it was awhile ago. ..actually, it was shortly after the season finale and I just remember that it was from someone that seemed to have a good track record with this kind of info.

I've been off my game lately and just thought of it now...and posted it because I can't remember and was hoping someone else would! Well, I'll keep trying...(lot of dead brain cells though...I grew up in the 60's!)

I've read that too, about Penny and the island but isn't it kind of a logical progression? I don't think getting to the Island is going to be that easy. It could take P more than a season to actually locate it (right now it's a blip on a map) and I'm sure there will be interference from her father, some information learned about the properties of the island, that there's a disease there and all the rest. Her life will be in danger (just guessing). She will probably be our source for real information. I have a feeling the Others only know part of the story.

Yeah, that, and Fenry said it so surely to Michael: <You won't be able to come back> (cannot quote exactly..) I think it is not the first time I hear this idea, that the island cannot be found from the outside world...

Just like you cannot leave it, unless you follow directions. Des couldn't do it...

Yes, it certainly is the logical progression for Penny - my question was aimed at the second part of that spoiler = meeting Michael along the way...obviously both in their respective boats. Will there be some kind of redemption for Michael? ...wondering if anyone else had heard that

Thank you for bringing up fHenry's comment to Michael again Lea...had forgotten about that...however, every time I watch that eppy which is quite often!) it strikes me that the look on fHenry's face after Des turned the failsail, was one of anger. His eyes open wide (not because of the noise, IMO) and he looks like he's thinking "Man, who used that bleeping switch" He obviously knows what's happened, again, IMHO... he obviously knows how to get to and from the island, or he couldn't have said that to Michael.
I agree with Sam that some of the questions can be answered by the Others...there are a lot more of "in the know" people that have not been seen yet... so we will have to wait and see.
Who knows...maybe fHenry will turn out to be a romantic and help our star-crossed lovers!

Just like you cannot leave it, unless you follow directions. Des couldn't do it... But keep in mind that Desmond tried to escape before the fail switch was used. Now that the electromagnetic field has dispersed, compasses should work again. The downfall is that now the headings that Henry gave to Michael may not work!

Well, they have delt with an incident before, per the blast door map, and it seems that pushing the button was the outcome from the previous incident. We don't know what the failsafe did or if it put something else on the island into play to take over the button pushing? We don't even know, for sure, if the hatch is destroyed.

True, there are so many possible scenarios to the failsafe issue ...I read that (not sure this is spoiler)the blast will change the physicality of the island and that the losties will find themselves in a very different predicament due to that change.
Also, the already discussed theory of the hatch being lined with titanium and therefore indestructable. I think the only thing we know for certain about the failsafe incident is that it made the island visable again.

S2E4 Sayid: Interesting. Good thing this is titanium... almost no magnetic attraction... but we're not going to get in up here.

I had read that spoiler too. I wonder if it means the weather is going to change drastically. Which would be a shame. No they wouldn't do that, they'd be no reason to be filming in Hawaii.

He IS part of the story arc. Lost is like "6 Degrees of Separation" except in their case... less than 6 degrees. I think Locke hit on something when he said "we're all puppets on a string" Alvar Hanso whoever he is..I've heard he's Jack's father OR Locke's father OR Penny's father, or maybe he's even somebody's mother! (just made up the mother thing) I think he's pulling the strings, or maybe it's really Walt!! This show makes my head itch.

Or maybe

the "physical changes" spoiler is WRONG?

At any rate,

I think the Island was visible only during the time of the energy release.

And

Penny has JUST heard about the Antarctica dudes finding the location of the Island. Now, she has to get an expedition launched. And search that whole region (which ain't small). And find a way to penetrate that EMT barrier! Penny is NOT gonna run across Michael. By the time she gets there, the Pala folks will have sent him and Walt on their way. Penny getting to the Island itself will take time!

Really, I'm much more curious about what The Others' camp is like, what's gonna happen to J/J/K, what has happened to Desmond, Locke, and Eko, and what Sayid's next move is gonna be.

I believe that this other stuff may not come to fruition (or only be vaguely hinted at) until the eppys resume in FEBRUARY, not during the six eppys that run in the fall!

Oh, and

Michael's out of the picture for this coming season. Don't be looking for him.

I think the only thing we know for certain about the failsafe incident is that it made the island visable again. I read that spoiler too on spoilerfix.com (I think) and they're pretty reliable. I think it would make perfect sense as that fail safe being used definitely did "something" and I bet it was more than just change the color of the sky and send out an ear-piercing sound!

Or maybe

Oh, and

Michael's out of the picture for this coming season. Don't be looking for him. I don't know about your second spoiler, STH. I think it was visible for much longer as it seemed to be sending the signal all the time they were contacting Penny. As for your other spoiler I'm not too sure if Penny will run into Michael or not. You make a very good argument. But IF the fails safe made the electromagnetic field go away, it could mess up Michael's coordinates and that could slow him down and possibly make it so that he and Penny cross paths. But it probably is unlikely as you're right that it will take her a good amount of time to set up and expedition and get going. And as for us seeing Michael and Walt in season 3 they're both signed on as guest stars so we will see them during the season but for how much ... who knows?

I'm also anxious to see the Others' camp and where they "really" live! That's one thing I'm really excited about for season 3. Of course, you know what I'm really excited about ... SEEING DESMOND AGAIN!

Jane, where did you hear that

Harold and Malcolm had been signed as guest stars? Harold himself has been interviewed as saying he was free to seek work cuz he WASN'T gonna be on LOST this season!

As I understood it, the one Antarctic scientist was yelping at the other Antarctic scientist about how long had that readout announcement been on the computer screen? To me, that says that the satellite or whatever had picked up an EMT anomaly at some point that day, not that it was continuous, and still going on. IMHO, when the energy was released, it created an anomaly that the satellite or whatever picked up on. But when the release was drained out, that anomaly ended.

I really believe that the readout was only for that brief moment of time the EMT was being released. Once it was over, things went back to "normal." Nothing seemed different in Beach Camp when Charlie wandered back into it, that is for sure!

Thus,

there were no "changes" to the Island landscape at all.

Guess we'll see over the course of the first six eppys, yeah?

I think when the one Portuguese guy said that he was meaning only moments because it was still on the monitor. If it was over, like the first time, then it would have been gone and they would have missed it like they did the first one. There's no way things could go back to "normal" since the fail safe was the way to stop the whole electromagnetic field. As for changes TPTB have said we will see changes and that Desmond's turning the fail safe did "change" things.

Topic is Desmond, not user names, astrology or any other stuff. I am not trying to be a hard nose here. I just don't want to lose any Desmond threads.

Thanks for your cooperation. And please, don't reply to this post as that will keep the thread off topic.

Thanks, again.
