Christina,

First, thanks for being part of the board and responding to the fans. In your previous posts you said you wrote features before this, and you were excited to be a writer on a show you were a big fan of. Did you search out this writing job or did they come to you? If you searched it out, how did you approach it? Did you send scripts, specs, outlines, etc...? I was just wondering how you did it and any advice for aspiring writers out there.

Thanks,

Ron

Hi Ron -
Thanks for writing (and watching)! As for how I got the gig...I have always loved TV and wanted to make the transition from features to television so I decided to write a spec TV script. (basically your own episode of an existing show). In my case, I wrote an episode of "Without a Trace." Once I had that sample ready, I went out to agencies with it and signed with a great agent. And from there, I went out on interviews during "staffing season" which is when all the shows are hiring their writers. I definitely sought out this job at "lost." Like I said, I was a huge fan first season and more than anything, was excited to meet the executive producers behind the genius stories!!

As for advice, I think it would be to watch a lot of TV and have a solid writing sample ready to go so you can shop it around. (a spec script or maybe a pilot) Good luck and keep me posted!

best,
christina

Uh, you made that sound way to easy!!!! Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the long delay in responding but I live in South Florida and we got hit with Hurricane Wilma. We've been without power for a week now.

Was it really that quick for you? How many staffing seasons did you go through? What got you in front of an agent, a reference, a query letter? Inquiring minds want to know! Keep up the great work and thanks for being so helpful.
