View Full Version : Jack is on the verge. wilekiyote 10-05-2005, 11:06 PM He is seriously stressing out. How long has it been since he slept? xyqdnl 10-05-2005, 11:09 PM Jack is totally freaking out. I'm just waiting for the inevitable swing he takes at Locke... mandy71 10-05-2005, 11:25 PM well maybe it will happen i_love_dmjgmfna 10-05-2005, 11:32 PM I kept thinking "Poor Jack". He needs some rest. But he was kinda scaring me tonight. He was so agressive. :) Monkey 10-05-2005, 11:35 PM Jack was pretty unlikable this episode. He's grouchy when he's in danger, around dynamite, not sleeping, fighting Scottish "brothers" and operating 25 year old computers. onenil 10-06-2005, 12:40 AM Jack was VERY weird tonight. In fact, I was starting to think to myself "He seems kind of.............sick......" sportsphotogirl 10-06-2005, 12:42 AM I love Jack. I think that he is just being rational. He doesn't wear his heart on his sleeve like many of the others. I think he is just trying to be strong. I see him as the leader of the whole group. Locke even needs him. Jack does need some rest. blondefilmgirl 10-06-2005, 12:44 AM Jack was pretty unlikable this episode. He's grouchy when he's in danger, around dynamite, not sleeping, fighting Scottish "brothers" and operating 25 year old computers. That would make a GREAT signature line. Me 10-06-2005, 12:49 AM I think he was rather irrational tonight He chases Desmond , threatens to shoot him, then lets him leave without saying 'DUDE were are you going ?" Jack was way weird tonight. Jenn 10-06-2005, 12:52 AM His whole outlook on life and the universe changed. It was probably already slowly evolving the whole 44 days but when he saw Desmond's face that was it. He lost it after that. And he wanted Desmond to admit the countdown was pointless because to accept that some computer in the middle of nowhere held the key to affect the rest of the world (supposedly) would just totally blow his ideas out of the water. Its easier to think you make your own choices and your own destinies, instead of thinking some other force out there may indirectly affect it. Amber 10-06-2005, 01:19 AM - He didn't ask Desmond anything else about the hatch - didn't ask D where he was going - didn't warn D about the Others - didn't ask why D asked if any of the survivors were sick, or what would cause the sickness But wasn't he always this way? He doesn't seem much like a hero to me. ASK SOME QUESTIONS!! Sorry, but I find it so frustrating!!!! Chris_Endel 10-06-2005, 01:22 AM His whole outlook on life and the universe changed. I like Jack and he's my wife's favorite character (or is it Charlie?); however, we both made the same exact assumption as Jenn posted. His ego just won't allow these things to be true. sportsphotogirl 10-06-2005, 01:24 AM I agree. Seeing Desmond just tripped him out. pulseracer 10-06-2005, 01:26 AM There's something between Jack and Desmond we don't know about yet. I think that's Sarah (Jack's wife) that Desmond has his arm around in the picture on the desk in the bunker. I think Jack's severe emotional outburst is because he knows Desmond broke up his marriage, but Desmond doesn't seem to care -- when really, I think Desmond doesn't know. Michelle Friday 10-06-2005, 01:28 AM With Jack's medical background and training, he has seen and been involved with psychological experiments, much like the deal in the hatch. Scientist get boat loads of money to repeat these same experiments, same results over and over again when any thinking person can guess the outcome of the setup without making a dollar on it. spookyb18 10-06-2005, 01:36 AM besides the fact that jack needs rest, I think seeing Desmond brings home to Jack that just maybe Locke is right, that all this is happening for a reason, and that just blows him away. His whole reality is shifting, and he is having a really hard time dealing with it. Jack has always held on to logic and science. He's a realist. And he's finding himself at a loss and unable to handle and succeed in the situation he finds himself in applying logic. He can't use his mind and he is realizing that he's not in control. That's really tough for a guy like Jack to handle. As for Jack and Sarah, I think something has happened to her, that is why Jack is so emotional when he says "I married her" obviously there's more to that. Guinevere 10-06-2005, 01:38 AM - He didn't ask Desmond anything else about the hatch - didn't ask D where he was going - didn't warn D about the Others - didn't ask why D asked if any of the survivors were sick, or what would cause the sickness I couldn't understand why he wouldn't ask why Kelvin died...why he wouldn't warn him about the monster, the Others, ask him where he thought he was going, offer to take him to the camp. As my husband and I said as we were watching "monster food"! rocheclip217 10-06-2005, 01:42 AM His whole outlook on life and the universe changed. Me 10-06-2005, 01:55 AM But even if your whole outlook has changed ( I would think a plane crash and being stranded on an island would do just that) 1) Your world is riped apart. 2) You find someone you have meet before out in the middle of Mystery island. I would think you would be in someones face demanding some sort of answers. like "How do you think you are going to open them cans of food?" " You only took enough food for a day or two then what?" "Do you know the French chick?" To let the only person who has any info, walk away is stupid. Dazed and comfused ya! to a point then self preservation needs to kick in at some point. Michelle Friday 10-06-2005, 02:05 AM Yeah, but why did Desmond just continue on his way? he's been alone for all that time and he has no questions himself about the crash? the people from the crash? is he just all for himself now that him saving the world is not an issue? Why didn't he offer some plan or join them to plan an escape? why did Desmond just leave Jack like that and jog off on his merry way, throwing back his see ya' remark again. Why didn't he show any care at all about any of them? or why is it they meet again. StickMang 10-06-2005, 02:17 AM Jack was VERY weird tonight. In fact, I was starting to think to myself "He seems kind of.............sick......" Excellent observation, and him being sick would be quite ironic (foreshadowing?/humor?) considering that not only is he a physician/surgeon, but he just got finished telling Desmond that nobody was sick. It's too bad that Jack got distracted with the whole Sara discussion, and reliving their previous encounter, , as he never got to ask those "physician" questions about the nature of the sickness, what is in the vials that he brought, why Calvin died, etc., nor the expected rational questions about the nature of the island. He was also theorizing at theat moment, that all of it was not real, that it was "an experiment", that they were puppets, and therefore wasn't quite in the mindframe to ask such rational, pointed questions about what Desmond knows. -Mang StickMang 10-06-2005, 02:22 AM When you said "Jack was on the verge", I had presumed that you'd meant the he was on the verge of starting to apply some tenets of faith/destiny/belief that he has held at abeyance so far, spurned for the reason/logic/science that he typically espouses. His Dad sure believed in fate, so perhaps its simply latent in him, and Locke is his epiphany to see that, or at lease appreciate the different perspective. I sure hope that Locke also decides to balance his faith/fate/destiny belief system with science/logic/reason. I believe both will be important, and will be required to be used in synergy. Or maybe the important synergy is both internal to themselves, but also the 2 of them working together. -Mang Jenn 10-06-2005, 02:24 AM But even if your whole outlook has changed ( I would think a plane crash and being stranded on an island would do just that) 1) Your world is riped apart. 2) You find someone you have meet before out in the middle of Mystery island. Very true, there comes a time you have to just wake up and accept it. I think this was it tonight. I think the main issue in his mind at that point was trying to prove to himself that it simply wasnt happening. Blondtgr 10-06-2005, 02:35 AM Jack is becoming more and more unlikable to me. Seriously...he needs to calm down...a LOT. I don't think it's lack of sleep, it's him. He always needs to be in control. He always wants to boss everyone around. He severely needs a reality check. I used to like him, I really did...but they're writing him worse and worse...he's messed up! hotshotxi 10-06-2005, 03:02 AM Jack was pretty unlikable this episode. He's grouchy when he's in danger, around dynamite, not sleeping, fighting Scottish "brothers" and operating 25 year old computers. I thought he was great! A hell of a lot more sensible than that blathering idiot Locke. hotshotxi 10-06-2005, 03:03 AM Jack is becoming more and more unlikable to me. Seriously...he needs to calm down...a LOT. Well if people wanted you to be their leader and then they wouldn't listen to a word you said, you'd be pretty pissed too. nonnyd 10-06-2005, 04:56 PM I think he was stressed out because no one "had his back". Desmond was spouting his end-of-the-world stuff, Locke was eating it up, and Kate was just standing there. As I told the JuSTer shippers, he really could have used Sawyer there to say, "You're typing in numbers like a damn monkey because of a 3rd grade filmstrip by whacko post-docs?" elfdream 10-06-2005, 05:13 PM Jack was fighting two different battles. There was the surface battle of fixing the computer to save the world/I don't want to believe what is happening right in front of me battle and the below surface battle of whatever it is that seeing Desmond is bringing up again from his subconscience. Whatever it is it has to do with Sarah. Its extremely painful for him and he has pushed it down for a long time and right now when he doesn't have the time or the means to deal with it..its bubbling back to the surface despite all his efforts to hold it down. No wonder he looks all angsty and is in the 'losing it' mode. Now as far as asking questions...I wasn't a bit surprised. Ethan got blown away before he could give answers...Danielle talks in cryptic phrases and circles...why should we expect another person who has been alone for years to be rational and reasonable? They would ask him questions and he would just basically babble at them...make no sense. Good question about why Desmond is not curious about the plane crash survivors or ask where they were so he could go hang out with them or something... |
