You are the man of science, you gotta represent!! Seriously, tear that hatch apart and find a reason to stop pushing the button. The Orientation film was so wishy-washy about it. You need to find a better reason than blind faith; that's just not your style.
I can understand wanting to support Locke (he seems so certain), but he's taking the first shift, so take a nap (cuz you seem a bit loopy) and then get to finding out WTF is up with Desmond's medicine, that magnetic room, and what the computer system is hooked up to. My hunch is that it's hooked up to that transmitter that Danielle hijacked 16 yrs ago and hasn't done squat since.
All kidding aside, well done acting that scene. It was riveting.
