View Full Version : Walt on the Milk Carton

LATE
10-12-2005, 11:30 PM
In Hurley's dream, there was a bit of an easteregg in that Walt was on the side of the Milk carton Hurley was holding - under a "missing" caption.

Just poiting it out :)

Haha, that's awesome.

It reminds me of something that happened in an episode of Stargate SG1 last season, where there was this news paper called the "Ascended Times" and it told of the threat going on on SG1's spinoff Stargate Atlantis.

I love easter eggs like this.

I saw the image and thought to myself, "How did the picture of the kid get on there? And how is the milk still good??" LOL Then I didn't think anything of it after the dream. UGGG I need to think more!!

A premonition of Hurleys? his dream has Walt on the missing child ad on the
milk. I wonder if Hurley will think back about it?

I'm thinking Hurley is special as well.

It's just the word "DHARMA"

http://lost-media.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimagepopup&pid=47841&fullsize=1

What is curious, however, is that all the food in the "Swan" shelter has the Swan logo meaning that specific food is intended for that specific shelter. It would therefore follow that each shelter has its own specifically designated food supply. After all, if you were going to fill all the shelters with the same food, you'd just use a generic Dharma symbol, not one specifically geared to the shelter in which it will be housed.

I think this propels the idea of experimentation involving these bunker dwellers as human guinea pigs. Perhaps some shelters got food with certain Dharma "additives" that are making people sick while one shelter, acting as a control group, got an untainted supply. Granted, this is out there and I'm probably reading into it a bit too much but it's not my fault; Lindelof made me this way.

Anyways...

Someone looking like Walt appears on a Milk Carton that says "missing" on it in Hurley's dream.

How does Hurley unconciously know that Walt is missing? Jin is there, too...

At first I thought Walt on the carton was a big clue because how would Hurley even know he was missing?

Then I thought about the writers and how they love to give the audience some fun things to find so now I think it was just an Easter Egg for the obscenely observant Fuseleers.

No, the guy in the chicken suit in Hurley's dream was NOT his friend. It was the store clerk who sold the lottery ticket. The chicken suit guy looked to be of middle eastern or indian decent and was definitely not his Mr. Cluck friend/coworker...[

Randy--Hurley's Chicken boss--appeared in Walkabout as Locke's boss. Same person, same name, but had a scraggly beard. Coincidence? Not likely. Somehow Randy went from being Hurley's boss--he had to be working there first--to being Locke's boss at the Box Company. Remember, Hurley's financial accountant said that the Box Company Hurley owned burned down. I'm still betting that box company and Locke's Box Company are one and the same, and true to the coincidences that run through this show, Randy went from being Hurley's boss to being Locke's boss.

No, it wasn't the box company that burned, it was the sneaker company in Canada that burned to the ground - 8 people died.

Which reminds me, your sneaker company in Canada. . .

Hurley

I have a sneaker company in Canada?

Ken

Well, not any more. It was destroyed in a fire last month.

Hurley

Of course it was.

Ken

You might have read about it - 8 something people died. But, the good news is we over-insured it. It's going to yield you a windfall of cash. And, when we add in the generous settlement from the LAPD for your false arrest you almost doubled your net worth in a few short months. I still can't imagine how the police mistook you for a drug dealer.

I was really curious about what the significance of Walt being on the milk carton in Hurley's dream was all about too. I had a tiny speculation that subconciously Hurley missed hanging out with Walt because Walt is a kid and doesn't expect as much from him, at least not as much as the other adults.

ChristineDaae
10-13-2005, 06:18 PM
I am SO glad someone else connected the fact that Walt was on the "missing" part of the milk carton to the fact that Hurley doesn't know he's missing! I did notice though, that Jin and Walt (both people who have left the island -as far as he knows) were featured in a dream with the person Hurley associates with having got him ON the island...

BurningStar4
10-13-2005, 06:34 PM
Well it is possible that all the people on the island have psychic tendencies but many are not aware of them (yet). It's possible that Hurley subconsciously knows Jin (Sawyer and Michael) are still on the island, putting Jin in his dream, since he hasn't left the island and he also subconsciously knows that Walt is missing and that is why he is on the milk carton.

About the milk cartoon - I think the writers threw that in for the viewers like us who pay too much attention.:wink1: It wasn't as if Hurley looked at the cartoon or made any comment about it. It was just put there for all of us to speculate about, in my opinion.

bigyellowdogs
10-13-2005, 09:39 PM
the point is that this was all supposed to be in hurley's subconscious mind.
i'm not one of those people who think that everything means something, quite the opposite. but the connection between those two characters is strange and interesting and i feel strongly that him knowing things he couldn't possibly know about walt suggests something about
1. those two characters being special to each other in a way we don't know
or
2. hurley having walt-like powers too
or
3. it's a dramatic reinforcement of the interconnectedness of the people on this island. this time i don't think it's just cleverness on the writer's part.

and i'm not one that always thinks things are meaningful.

sheba
10-13-2005, 09:52 PM
I believe Walt is special in ways he is only now coming to understand and try to control. (yes, I am one of those wackos who believes some people do actually have *specialness*)

I believe Walt *contacted* Shannon, and I believe he may well have attempted to *contact* Hurley, but with even less success than he had with Shannon. Hurley was in a dream state and the best Walt was able to do was insinuate himself into the dream ... alas, Hurley's attention was engaged elsewhere at the time.

Either that or the writers were just having some fun. :)

Furi161
10-13-2005, 09:58 PM
Can't ever be sure, but methinks that Walt on the milk carton was just a bone that the writers threw out to all of us keen-eye-for-detail, freeze-framing, note-taking fans. Hurley just guzzled down the milk - I don't think he ever even looked at the carton, so what was on it essentially was a nonfactor as far as him and his dream.

I can just picture it: Writers are gathered in a room, tossing ideas around, and one says, "Hey, here's an idea! In Hurley's dream, let's put Walt's picture on the milk carton!!!" Everybody in the room rolls on the floor laughing!

yeah it was funny, and it probably was a little gimme to all of those screen capture people, but i also think sheba's idea of walt making contact and it not working is kind of cool. it wouldn't be the first time he's attempted such a thing.

I agree with this - everything we saw and heard in Hurley's dream was about Hurley and only Hurley. I thought the picture of Walt on the carton with the word "missing" meant that Hurley missed Walt or that Walt was now missing from the island group and Hurley felt his absence.

Hurley and Walt have had several connections - the plane scene (smile/thumbs up), the exchange of the comic book from Hurley to Walt, the backgammon games. And Walt tells Hurley about Brian, his 'other dad'. They may not have had a lot of scenes together but there has been a sense of closeness there.

I think it was on purpose as well. I was a little perplexed that Hurley was drinking milk, as it couldn't possibly last, but perhaps it was some sort of condensed milk or it was frozen??? So, let's pretend it was frozen in the box. Remember, the contents of the pantry are 3 years or older.... could it mean that Walt actually had a period of time with Brian and his mother when he went missing... possibly a runaway attempt?

Backgammon
10-14-2005, 04:10 PM
The connection between Walt and Hurley is undeniable. Anyone notice that Walt would call the dice he rolled in backgammon games? Hurley never beat him as far as we know in backgammon. So if Walt is "the luckiest boy I know," would Hurley be the unluckiest? Bad things happen all around him, but never to him, as if he is immune to the curse of the numbers. Even when he travelled to Australia, the other guy connected to the numbers lost a leg didn't he? So does Hurley have a special power that keeps the numbers from messing him up, actually his $114 million grew to $156 million?

I also would like to delve deeper into why Jin speaks perfect English in Hurley's dream. The simple answer would be that it was such a surprise when Sun spoke English, that this would be something he expected. Or does he know something about Jin, explaining why he subconciously knew Walt was missing? Are Jin and the chicken suit store clerk going to play the same role in Hurley's lives, both in the past and now in the present?

Smacks of Easter Egg to me.

In video games, the writers will often put strange images in odd or hard-to-find places. Often gamers consider it an honor to be the one who finds it first. Often they are in-jokes about the game, pictures of the developers, their family, or friends, or other oddities. It's considered a tongue-in-cheek wink at those who take the time to scruticnize every nook and cranny of their creation.

That's what this seems to me. Hurley doesn't notice it, so it has no significance to him. Jin doesn't notice it; it's purely a tongue-in-cheek reference to something the viewers know, especially those who freeze every frame of the show and scrutinize every detail.

At least, that's my take on it. I don't see how it could be significant to the show, in spite of some of the rather well thought out theories in this thread, I don't think there's enough evidence to tie Walt and Hurley together.

I think the writers were around talking about this scene where Hurley is eating all this stuff, and thought it would be funny to plaster Walt's face on a milk carton. I think it's just a nod to those of us who look for every possible hint as to what is going on.

The chicken suit guy freaked me out just as much as Walt standing there dripping wet. I can't believe Walt is on the milk carton. Who goes to that much trouble and detail? The people who write for this show are awesome.
The creep factor went up when the guy blinked along with the alarm beeping. Took me a second viewing to catch, but it really added a surreal touch.

I really think the people working on this show really love it. The prop department probably love placing all those numbers everywhere. The WaltCarton must have been a fun one to put in as well.
That sort of thing takes time to make. It had to be intentional, regardless of how funny it would have been to put in.

There HAS to be something to that exhange...Jack briefly looks at Locke and nods too...you would think they would remember that...
Or the Charlie/Hurley exhcange during Hurley's mad dash to the airport in the hotel elevator when Charlie yells at Hurley. "Some of us have a plane to catch!"
