I love the use of music on this show. Charlie and Hurley are very closely associated with music (Charlie as a musician and Hurley with his now defunct CD player). I thought I'd start a thread to let people comment on the music. I personally loved the fact that "Easy MOney" by Billy Joel was playing on the radio when Hurley and Johnny were cruising around. Mr. Joel is my favorite singer, and I think the lyrics of that song add a lot to that scene. Other thoughts?

I loved the song in the beginning with Hurleys dream. It starts with humming like "mmmmm" yummy!

I laughed when Hurley and his buddy were making fun of the DriveShaft cd at the store and the cd was in the one-hit wonders section.

I'm pretty sure that Rose is humming Hurley's dream-song as she's doing the laundry. Best show ever.

It seemed like there was a lot of background music in this epi, including the spirituals that Rose was humming.
Does anybody know if a list has been made yet?
So far we have:
Billy Joel, Easy Money
Led Zeppelin t-shirt reference
Rose humming spirituals
Song(s) on record player?
Driveshaft You all Everybody
What was playing during Hurley's dream?

It sounded like Bob Marley during Hurley's dream.

Actually we really don't know what Hurley thought of Driveshaft...but we do know he didn't know the words.

Also, Hurley invited someone to the Troubadour to see The Hold Steady.

There was music playing when he put the headphones on but I couldn't tell what it was.

I thought the song Rose was humming sounded like Up on the Roof. But I could be wrong

She was humming On The Roof when they were cataloging the food. When she was doing laundry she was humming something else. Many say it was the music from Hurley's dream. I try to 'watch' with my eyes closed to catch the audio clues. I picked that up here on the 'Lage. Try it!!!

This is what was playing when Hurley and Rose did the inventory.
Up On The Roof
The Drifters
(Written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King)
When this old world starts getting me down
And people are just too much for me to face
I climb way up to the top of the stairs
And all my cares just drift right into space
On the roof, it's peaceful as can be
And there the world below can't bother me
Let me tell you now
<snip>
Everything is all right (up on the roof)
Peaked at # 5 in 1963
Later covered as minor Top 100 singles by The Cryan' Shames in 1968 and by
Laura Nyro in 1970: by James Taylor as a slower-paced Top 30 pop version in
1979. Also covered as album tracks by co-songwriter Carole King in 1970 [Carole
King Writer CD] and by Neil Diamond in 1993 [Neil Diamond Up on the Roof CD].

The song during the dream sequence is "My Conversation" by Slim Smith and the Uniques. I've probably heard that song a few hundred times. :)
After three notes, my wife and I looked at each other and said "Holy S***!"
