I don't have Season One on DVD, and don't tell me if I'm right or wrong, but I'm pretty sure tonight's episode is going to feature flashbacks of Sawyer. I'M JUST GUESSING. That's just my guess. Can anyone give me a recap of his backstory that we got in the first season? I remember the letter, and how it was to the guy who killed his family right? I don't want to be confused about it and then have it be his flashback tonight and not know what's going on. Thanks!

Tonight is
Shannon-centric

Spoiler font just in case folks don't even want to know that much

If you still want info on Saywer's back story: He is on a quest to get back at the guy who worked his scam on his mom & dad which resulted in his dad shooting his mom, then himself. At last flashback, Saywer kills the wrong guy on his revenge quest.

Okay here's a little more about Sawyer's backstory.

Sawyer's first backstory was in the episode Confidence Man. In this episode the backstory centers around a woman he's in bed with who is married to a man with money. Sawyer tells her (jessica) that he's going to meet an investor form Toronto who wants in on an oil drilling investment. Of course, those of us who know Sawyer, know this is BS and he really wants to get the money from her. She, of course, offers to get him the rest of the money from her husband, said of course in the afterglow of amazing sex.

Sawyer goes to see a man he knows to get the rest of the money and he says, "the women are easy. A couple of cosmos, a couple of stunts they ain't seen b'tween the sheets, and they think the scam's their idea. Now they husbands, they're tricky, the need to touch the money, smell it, believe that if they had the brass to put that suitcase in the back of their family sedan, speed away, they just might have a chance at bein' an honest-to-gosh outlaw."

She and Sawyer meet with her husband and he agrees to "invest" in oil drilling operation. Once the get together and Jessica and her husband's house to collect the money, Sawyer sees their little boy and can go through with the con because he sees himself in the little boy and the death of his parents.

So that explains the backstory for Confidence Man.

Now on the back story for Outlaws.

This one opens with Sawyer as a little boy who's mom puts him under the bed so his angry father won't find him. The father kills the mother which is why Sawyer wrote the letter we see him holding all through Season 1. Sawyer is then shown as an adult and is again in a hotel room with a woman and is just carried her to the bed and put her on it, when his former associate Hibbs is waiting there in the room.

The woman leaves and Hibbs tells Sawyer all about finding the man his mother had the affair with when he was little in Australia. Sawyer goes to Australia to kill the guy and after shooting him, finds he's killed the wrong man. This is also the time where Sawyer meets Jack's dad who he tells Jack about in the Season finale.

I hope this helps.
