Hmmm...I guess not. Good point. But then again, the others didn't really seem to me to be the gun wielding type. I guess I look at them as being more primitive.

I don't think the pirate-looking people were the Others. I know its been said by various LOST cast and crew, but I read that the bearded guy that took Walt was in the Hanso video. So it could be a different deal altogether, as we never found out if the Others (who seem to be natives of the island) were connected to that. The Hanso thing would also explain the gun, since they have technology and everything.

Well they are not pirates. I know that much. I think the people that took Walt were The Others although they could not have been. Maybe they are a different branch of Others. SO MANY POSIBLILTES!!!

i just thought that it was interesting that with all of the stuff that apparently happened to the tailenders based on the few numbers they have left and the preview for next episode that a gun was never used or seemingly seen in the presence of the others... which could i suppose prove that the people who took walt were in fact with the hanso organization and not the primative shoeless bandits which we apparently will see lots of next episode, especially considering the large gun supply in desmonds hatch alone...

All I know is that TPTB have confirmed that the Seabillies were the Others.
We also know Ethan was an Other - He wasn't primitive (well looking anyway)

Just because some of them have guns doesn't mean they all have guns. Just because my neighbor the police officer has a gun doesn't mean I own one. Maybe only the leaders have guns and use the boat...

I just assumed it was like the lostaways, they have guns and some modern things from the plane, but since supplies are scarce, other elements are fairly primitive.

I adhere to the theory of two sets of people. The ones who took Walt are tied to Ethan. They have modern tools and weapons and seemed "normal" to the fuselage survivors. The group stealing survivors from the tailies have a totally different "vibe," with the whispers and the disappearances and the shoelessness. :) They could still be connected, the two groups--like maybe people hired by the Dharma Initiative, some who got sick and some who didn't. Or they could be unconnected, like the Dharma people and others who wound up on the island somehow. We've got a big plane crash, a small plane crash, a big shipwreck, a small shipwreck, and an old shipwreck already. And it's a big island.
