Jack Was In The Hospital In The Flashback At The Beginning, He Walked Past Shannon And Sabrina.

I just lost a big post, so I'm going to go watch TV for a while.

I'm trying a new tactic- taking notes "live" along with the show. Here's what I got so far:
Love Shack, Baby, Love Shack! Sayid built Shannon a Love Shack, Baybee! (Too bad she’s going to…uh…yeah…um…too bad.)

Sayid buries gun. “I only carry it because I have someone to protect.”

Alas! Another Australian besides Claire! (Flight Attendant)- with “Tailers”

Jin seems to be the ONLY person concerned about Sawyer’s wound.

Ecko- “I saw them.” Flight Attendant? (or was it Libby?) asked, “Did you see the kids?”

“I do this for all the pretty girls I meet on deserted islands.”

Sayid is such a gentleman…goes and gets water. (Notice Fire behind Shannon…blows out just as she sees Walt.)

Shannon waited 6 months for the letter of acceptance for the internship.

Not sure where to put this but Ecko says that the beach turns into a penisula (I think).

I am going to watch again and take notes. :biggrin: Yeah, thats my excuse.

Charlie questions Claire- You heard screaming so you left the baby and ran towards them? (Interesting that since Exodus Claire-Shannon-Sun have been pretty tight.)

Flashback- Shannon in ballet class…she’s the teacher, rock on!

Daddy Issues “Did my papa see me?” asks the little girl…

…just as Shannon’s dad was in a head-on collision with Jack’s future wife.

Shannon’s stepmother unnecessarily adds to the doctor in the hospital that she is a stepdaughter when he said “daughter”. Mother Issues/Broken Families

Libby tells Sawyer, “you’ll be okay…let’s go!” She smiles. She’s positive. Carries a blue

Rose doesn’t like the hatch…Who needs a dryer when we have sun and fresh air? We don’t want to spoil ourselves, do we? Hurley says it’s because of the “doomsday button.”> apocalyptic reference

Brother Issues. (Shannon/Boone, Charlie/Liam)
Rose says, “Poor thing. Hard to lose the one person you loved on the island.” OR something to that effect…I lost the actual quote.

Shannon tells Vincent to trail Walt’s scent. Interesting…all during the first season they were trying to find Vincent…now here’s Shannon using Vincent to find Walt…or so she thinks. She's really bonded with Vincent- this is SO something Walt would do. Sad. I feel sad now… Oh, maybe that’s cause Vincent lead her straight to Boone’s grave.

“Cruel and Unusual Punishment”- Claire trying to get Aaron to quiet down.

“That sucks.” Boone’s great entrance to a funeral. Sounds like Hurley should have spoken that line.

Boone asks about Shannon and his mother’s relationship. Boone and Shannon seem genuinely happy to see one another and it is clear that they have a very good relationship despite Boone being in New York and out of the house.

The Others/Island Geography- Ecko and Ana-Lucia discuss strategy. “Jungle? You would risk our lives to help him? I liked you better when you weren’t talking.” They mention that “they” were on the beach, meaning The Others. Ecko does not want to take the beach route says it may not be passable…or was that a mountain?

Nicknames- They call Sawyer “The Cowboy”

Charlie busts in on Claire and Locke. Locke gets the message, leaves. Charlie takes baby and when Claire glares at him inquires “What?” Pretty possessive.

“You want me to be quiet? Then you need to tell me why I have to.”- Michael to Ana-Lucia

Numbers: Shannon has been waiting six months for the Martha Graham internship letter. Wants her roommate to open it. (Seems she isn’t living at home anymore.)

Shannon says “This is her.” Should be “This is she.” (I don't know if "grammar" is an appropriate category) She answered the phone to hear that her rent check bounced. Friend asks why because she is rich.

There was no will. Living Trust- everything went to his wife, Sabrina. Shannon got squat.

Numbers: Shannon would be working 16 hour days at the internship in NY.

Previously (one year ago in the flashback) Shannon wanted to be an interior designer. (Though...hey, you don't get accepted to a freakin' Martha Graham internship without sticking with dance.) Anyway- In HOTRS Sun's connection to her running away plan pretended to be an interior designer to get into Sun and Jin's apartment.

“Daddy/Mommy Issues”/Parental Abandonment: Sabrina cuts Shannon off: “You’re on your own”.

Locke and Charlie on the beach: Charlie in black. Locke in his very, very off-white shirt. (Kinda mustardy nowadays. I guess there was no bleach in the hatch.)

Charlie claims Claire has a lot to learn about being a mum…Locke says that was quite the thing to hear coming from a heroin addict… OUCH! That’s gotta hurt.

Sawyer to Michael- I never would have left you behind.

Eyes. Aw…a soft Sawyer-Michael moment. Sawyer’s eyes roll back- go white.

Sawyer- black button up shirt. Michael in his usual orange shirt. (I know…they haven’t changed since last Spring! Ha ha.)

They build a stretcher for Sawyer. Talk about island medical ingenuity! The Amputron, sea urchin needles for blood extraction, and lookie! It’s a Medevac! It even goes up cliffs!

Add one more to the list of people who know about the bottle (so much for burying secrets!) Shannon tells Sayid about the bottle. So now he too knows about the bottle washing ashore.

The Others- Cindy gone? “Did they get her?” Ana-Lucia wanted to go for her but Ecko stopped her. They must “remain together or else they will give them what they want.”

Ecko first hears the whispers…then Michael, Jin, Libby, Ana-Lucia, Rose’s husband, ect.

I haven't seen Sun in this episode, anyone else?

I haven't seen Jack yet either...or Kate...oh...they must be in the hatch taking showers. ;)

Yeah, must have been nice to have a month off (give or take)..hahaha.

Shannon packing <as we've seen on the show, one of her favorite activities, aparently>. In comes Boone. “Hey.” (I guess he wasn’t big on vocabulary two years ago. Shannon’s 20 “at present”, 18 in flashback = 2 years ago. Plus, that’s when Jack met his wife.)

Parental Manipulation (Jack, his dad, Locke, his dad)- Sabrina offers Boone a job so he’ll leave New York and kill Shannon’s chance to go to NY. I'm sure Shannon thinks that anyway, Boone seems oblivious. Sabrina seemed set to ruin Shannon. Too bad they've now killed off both Boone and Shannon 'cause now we can't figure out what weird bug crawled up that woman's panty hose wrapped tight a$$.

Money: Boone offers to keep her afloat. He will give her money. She declines and says she wants to make it on her own. (For probably the last time in her life) she says “I do not want your money!”

Trust: Shannon asks why Sayid doesn’t believe her. Says no one believes in her.

"Worthless" is the Shannon keyword: "They think I’m worthless".

Abandonment: You’re just going to leave me! I know when we get out of here, you’re just going to leave me!- Shannon screams this to Sayid but lots of Lostaways have abandonment issues, but none more intensely than Shannon.

Pledge/Promise, ect: Sayid to Shannon- I’m never going to leave you. I love you. I’m never going to leave you. [converse of the last "romantic" situation he was in- begging Nadia to run away!)

Shannon- You do?

Sayid- I do. (Did they just get married.)

God…the looks on Jin and Michael’s faces…poor Sayid looks like he’s going to freakin’ lose it.

Aw man…you mean the next epi is all about the Tailies! But the back end just met up with the front end…bummer about Shannon and all…not to mention Shayid, but let’s get Rose and Bernard and Jin and Sun hooked up!

Lies----The doctor lied to Shannon and that horrid stepmother. Said her father stopped breathing at the accident scene and could not be revived. Wrong. He was obviously breathing when brought to the hospital and Jack chose to work on Sarah and then he died.

"Did you see the children?" Libby asked. "others" could be children OR the "others" took some children that survived from the tail section crash.

"they" took 3 and then came back and took 9 more=12.

Evidently Mr. Eko did not speak for a time after the crash.

also it looks like the same teddy bear as one of the Others' carry thru the jungle in a previous epi...without the left leg bandage...

Now I'm sure that Shannon was in St. Tropez to watch Laurent as an au pair. That's why she knew he watched finding Nemo 900 times. She took the job that her girlfriend was offered.

SHANNON: The guy from St. Tropez, he had this kid -- a real snot -- who hated
me. His name was Laurent. He watched this movie over and over and over again
every day, all day, like kids do, nine hundred times. It was the cartoon about

When Shannon and Sayid were on the ground and the whispers started did it say "when the rain stops" ?
Did the rain stop when Shannon died? (like when the rain stopped so Michael could look for Vincent)?

Did Shannon have to go be an Au Pare for money and ended up his lover? Married him? French man at ballet class offered it to her friend. Could connect La Mer song. [the guy was from St Tropez and he had a kid named Laurent that hated her...]

Convo between Sawyer and Mike before Sawyer passes out -
Sawyer, "I would have left you behind Michael, "don't worry about this now." Sawyer, "I did leave you behind." Michael, "good thing i ain't you."

Locke swaddling the baby, could have been learned watching his sister be wrapped?

Locke said babies like to be swaddled, it's not until we get older that we want freedom.

Shannon yelled, "You came back!" Why wouldn't he? What happened? Shannon was shocked he took the job with his mom. (like he hated his mom?)

It appears both Shannon and Boone smoked.

Locke's rebuke to Charlie (who needs to look in a mirror before he starts attacking Claire's lack of responsiblity) was very much a high point in the episode.
in MOSMOF, Charlie was ranting on about the french woman being a nutter, and yelled at Shannon for believing in the "others".
In Adrift, Claire found the statue, and Charlie kept the fact that it was full of heroin away from her.
In EHH, he was very quick to get mad at Hurley, even though Hurley was just doing his job to keep track of the food.
Now with Abandoned, he lectures Claire on responsibility, and is developing a dislike for Locke that he previously did not have.

the doctor lie to Shannon and that witch of a stepmother? He told them her father stopped breathing at the accident site and could not be revived. Wrong! He was breathing and alive in the hospital when Jack chose to work on Sarah, remember?

Definately a hospital liability issue, and interesting when Jack would not cover for his own father in a liability investigation.

Mr. Eko tells Ana that the beach goes into a peninsula ahead and it may not be passable. He suggests cutting inland (really to save Sawyer) Ana realizes this and says that he is risking their lives to save the cowboy. He says, "It's the only way Ana." He has defied her a few times now. Ana says she liked him better when he didn't talk??

Locke kisses Aaron's forhead and say that he smells good. Babies sure do

Libby says the others are smart, like animals and they can be anywhere, anytime.

Eko says if they split up now, it is giving the 'others' what they want. Sounds like they've had this experience?

Boone offers to "float her" Shannon is upset that he doesn't believe that she can take care of herself and refuses his money.

Shannons rent cheque bounced because according to Sabrina if you withdraw without depositing money that can happen.

There was no will, just a living trust that left everything to Sabrina with no provisions for Shannon.

Boone tells Shannon, "Try to talk to her." When Shannon does, she is told she is getting nothing. She asks for enough to get her to NY and get on her feet. She says she'll pay her back. Sabrina brings up that Shannon wanted to be an Interior Decorator last year, and that she doesn't think Shannon would repay her. Shannon says that she really wants this. Sabrina tells her she's on her own!!!

Boone goes to Sabrina for a loan for Shannon, but Sabrina wouldn't give it to him. Boone said she knew who it was for.

Shannon’s stepmother unnecessarily adds to the doctor in the hospital that she is a stepdaughter when he said "daughter". This is harsh because it's actually her father. The way Sabrina said it, was like it wasn't that big of a deal because she's "his" stepdaughter, not hers.

Charlie tells Locke that Claire considered giving her baby up for adoption.

--> Free Will vs. Fate - Walt was signaling Shannon to be quiet. Did he know what was going to happen? Was it Shannon's destiny to walk in front of that bullet. Why didn't Shannon notice Walt was telling her to be quiet? Instead she runs off into the dangerous jungle yelling Walt's name at the top of her lungs. Sayid went into shock for a second (seems strange for him), then gets it together but trips and he didn't catch her in time. If he would have responded faster, could he have saved her, or was it all meant to play out just the way it did?

AndI just watched the entire backgammon scene again. I'm not sure where they say "double sixes", but it never shows the board, the dice, and during that scene there is no reference to the game at all except "your turn".

I never thought of how many peeps have used or handled that particular gun. It's like Locke's knives, we need a list to keep track of them.

I just got home and read a few of the theories and it sounds very plausible that someone stabbed Shannon and Ana shot the stabber. It will be made clear in the next show, so I'm told.

It wasn't exactly a solo musical career as the "group" was Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.
Donnie Wahlberg is also an actor now. In fact he is currently in "Saw II".
And...who on earth was still thinking "Marky Mark" two years ago? Mark Wahlberg hasn't been Marky Mark since like, 1993 or something.

We can't really jump to conclusions about the gun as there are a number to choose from...there was four from the case, the one Sawyer lifted off the Marshal, plus we don't really know if the Tailies have had access to guns yet (Ana-Lucia may have legally had one on the plane- we don't know until we see her flashback or the Tailies flashback), and now of course we have the massive Dharma arsenal (ironic, eh?) in the hatch. Even if we assume that Ana-Lucia's gun is the same as Sawyer's gun (from the case, given to him by Jack just before they left on the raft), we have no way to prove that was the same exact gun that Shannon had when she threatened Locke. It was one of five (or four) from the case. Evidently Sayid did keep one gun for himself (as we saw it in the Love Shack), but presumably the rest are still "hidden" (question: what if Sayid was the one shot- then how would the other Lostaways find the hidden guns? Jack's gotta know...or someone else...)

I also think it's a bit premature to jump to conspiracies on Shannon's unfortunate, untimely demise. The Tailies and Shayid were in the same vicinity: they all heard the whispers and Shayid saw Walt. (Yes, Sayid did see Walt- Shannon asked him and he confirmed it.) The gun shot was off screen. When Sayid turns the corner and sees bloodied Shannon who collapses in his arms, he looks up and who's there? Michael, Jin, Ana-Lucia, et. al. It is purposely made to look like Ana-Lucia shot Shannon BECAUSE ANA-LUCIA SHOT SHANNON. This is to parallel Locke's responsibility in Boone's accidental death.

Boone's death: Accident. Locke was involved, had good intentions, but Boone bit the dust. Had purpose of driving conflict between Jack and Locke, the two Alpha Males of the Lostaways.

Shannon's death: Accident. Ana-Lucia was involved despite her good intentions of protecting her group against the Others. Has purpose of creating conflict between the Lostaways of the fuselage versus Lostaways of the tail section.

In other words- both deaths are perfect parallels. Both are accidents, both accidents are "caused" by well meaning dominant personalitied survivors, heck, the two deaths were brother and sister, and most importantly: both deaths serve the narrative purpose of causing conflict between the survivors.

Oh...someone mentioned that both Adam Rutherford and Boone are 2 deaths in the same family- did you forget Shannon too? Not to mention- where is Shannon's natural mother and Boone's natural father? Are they dead as well?

9 + 3 = 12 - 5 -1 (Goodwin) = 6 unaccounted for.

haha! I call him that all the time...especially b/c I am not a fan but it makes me giggle to point at the movie screen and "Look, its Marky Mark. Wheres the Funky Bunch?"

However, the point is that a Marky Mark poster that used to be on Shan's wall is definately referring to his musical career prior to his acting gigs. It could even go along the lines of his Calvin Klien modeling days. (Why do I know this???)

This being said, I still have major issues with the timeline. 2 years? Thats it? Jack and Boone both had that bad of hair 2 years ago? I am not buying it.

On GMA this morning they had a really good deleted scene. In the Promo pictures we see Shannon and Sabrina in the kitchen, we never see it in the episode. (Roughly, from the top of my head.)
They are in the kitchen cleaning up after the wake, Sabrina is in there with some help and she says "Who brings beef stroganoff to a wake?" Shannon walks in and says "He always loved beef stroganoff" Sabrina "Well, he won't be eating any tonight." "I'm sorry I don't know why I said that". Blaa, blaa (Not exactly sure how this went) Sabrina "I loved him, you know." Shannon "I loved him, too". Sabrina "I guess we have that in common."Sabrina "When are you leaving?"

It was another scene that showed what a witch Sabrina was.

Since, it seems that none of the Tailenders that were taken by the Others ever escaped, what are the chances that Ethan was really an Other? The Others seem to travel together. Ethan was a loner, like Danielle.

Desmond was introduced about the time Adam Rutherford dies. Jack meets up with him in the stadium in LA while hes running up and down the steps. Desmond is in LA when Shannon is 18.

Desmond clearly says hes been in the hatch 3 years.

Yet Shannon is 20 on the island (according to the census by Hurley). And she was 18 when her father died. Soooo....huh? That doesnt make any sense. Is it 2 years or 3? Is Desmond lying? Is Shannon?

I dont get some of this timeline stuff they are laying out for us.

I really think that they are doing this to screw with our heads. While it is totally possible to have everything happen in a 2 year span, I just get a funny feeling about it. It is possible that Shannon had just turned 18 when her dad died. It is also totally possible that she was about to turn 21 when Hurley did the census. Also possible that she lied about her age to him (my hubby said all women lie about their age at one point or another as I have been 26 for several years now..haha) but I am not sure why someone so young would lie about being younger. Not to say that she couldnt have gotten drunk prior to being of legal age (obviously that was happening anyway) but in Hearts and Minds, she got to Boone's hotel room and he said she was drunk. Anyone know what the legal drinking age in Australia is? Might help. Might make things less clear. :confused:

Good idea. I hate the timeline stuff, it's tooooo confusing. I'm sure the fact that we can't figure it out with the info we've received so far is a clue in itself, but I haven't seen a theory that works for me yet.

I'm a music producer and I've isolated the whispering in the audio track. In my version the whispering is much clearer than what has been posted here. If someone can host the file, I'll send it to them. This is what I can hear:

the first four statements are very close together

1. She likes him (quite certain this is what's said)
2. She's dies now (quite certain)
3. She's Coming (quite certain)
4. dying sucks(quite certain)
echoes of these four statements

5. next line I can't tell, but there is an 'H' and an 'S' sound, sounds like 'Hi sis'

6. she's coming (quite certain)
7. This game sucks (quite certain)

8. another phrase with an 's' sound maybe 'see her'

I just ran the audio through some noise reduction software i have here at work, and I can clearly make out the first three lines

Voice 1: I'm Scared

I heard what seems to be a fouth line but cant make it out

About 10sec in i can make out three more lines

April, I think you've got it. The highlighted section re: take advantage of the situation is exactly why Lost threw in the "living trust" line? If Shannon just turned 18, then we know Boone is already 20, so I'm assuming Sabrina didn't give Boone a penny until he turned 21? I don't know either, it's so confusing. Why give Boone money and not Shannon. Just cuz it's her son, or because there was a provision in the trust for Boone? Didn't Sabrina say that to Shannon, "there was no provision for you"???

As far as Boone's trust fund, it could be that he was turning 21 soon, and second, his I assumed would have come from another source, ie upon the death of his father maybe, or grandparents. I don't think it had to do with Shannon's fathers death at all. She was 18, if there had been a will, she would have been called in to hear the reading, being a surviving child, if she wasn't in a will, she could have contested it.

Boone gave Shannon chewing gum, I'm assuming to hide the smell of alcohol on her breath. There were no cigarettes. Shannon had asthma, and I don't think smoking would have been her cup of tea. It seems Boone was something of a bad boy carrying his little flask around underage and all. That's not what we expected from him is it? He seems like quite the slacker as well. I, for one, am going to be upset if Boone never appears in another flashback. (Never thought I would say that.:hypocrit: ) The fact that he lived in NY for a time would have been a perfect opportunity to make a connection with Michael.

Names- Is the name John being repeated with a little more subtlety? Juan Ponce de Leon, Rambina/John Rambo.

Weird Props and Imagery- Art-
Swan Lake parallels abound. Black swan/White swan Sayid promises to never leave Shannon, but then he hesitates. He doesn't follow her as quickly as he needed to. He made the wrong choice, and let her go ahead of him. Then there is a crash of thunder/gunshot and she is gone forever. Shannon a ballet dancer? I wouldn't have thought it. Can't take credit of this. LostInLouisiana noticed it.

Interesting that Stay was playing in Shannon's apartment scene, since she has abandonment issues. Remember when she had the asthma attack and she asked Boone not to leave her? Now she believes Sayid is going to leave her.

What I really want to know now is why and what's up with gold. I haven't spent hours analizing that one......yet...

Not only that, but Heatherton's room and Sabrina's room have some similar characteristics...look at the pattern of the white molding up near the ceiling, reflected in the mirror next to Charlie. Look to the right of Charlie and those windows could be the same "multiple X" windows, maybe with curtains over them. And look at the hanging light fixtures. AND the large "Y"-shaped post that is dark varnished wood at Heatherton's but painted white at Sabrina's. It sure looks like the same room(s) redecorated.

Tabby, your links to Sabrina's don't work, but I agree it looks like the same set was used with enough changes to make it look different. Sabrina's home looked very sterile/cold to me. I didn't get that feeling from Heatherton's. Hmmm...wasn't Heatherton's home in the UK? Shannon lived in LA didn't she? At least this time they did make the places look a bit more different than they did when they shot Michael's deposition in a conference room almost exactly the same as Claire's. The fireplace mantle looks very much the same as well.

WIF, remember when we were talking about bas relief and ebony in the Dark Continent Connections thread? Looks like there's some bas relief panels over the fireplace. A triptic? I don't believe that's ebony though. Ebony should polish out black. It could be mahogany? It's a redtoned wood. African mahogany? It's hard to tell. I agree that the statue is the same, but am not sure that this proves a link between Shannon and Charlie. I'm not into art but suspect that they are both a copy of a famous statue. It's not uncommon for the richer in society to have similar tastes, but it would be really cool if it was the exact same statue and not the set dressers re-using a prop.

You can almost see the "head" raise up and look. It starts off slanted a bit to the left, and moves upright, sort of how you would raise your head up from hiding.

Car, there are 7 girls in the class. I just rewatched the episode. I thinks Sophie is number 4. I couldn't find a screen caps with all the girls.

I saw the painting and I still think it is Martha Graham. I see the other one that you are talking about. It looks very Degas but I haven't been able to find the exact painting. It has a Monet feel to it but I don't think he did any ballet paintins.
