How can Sayid say he loves Shannon, when he still has obvious feelings for that oither woman he went to LA to see.

Maybe he feels that he will never see Nadia again, so he has to move on. I don't think he is a two timing gigolo, he just might have feelings for two different people. It happens and it doesn't make him a bad person because of it in my opinion.

What about widowers? They can still love their former spouse and their new flame.

Good point.

Yeah, he seems a little fickle to me. Nadia isn't dead. Telling Shannon he would never leave her means that he has given up completely on Nadia? What if he gets off the island and discovers Nadia is still alive and waiting for him. Of course it's moot now right?

Maybe he love Shannon more than Nadia.

well remember what he said about letting go, when he talked to Danielle... maybe he let go of Nadia, now that he's been with Shannon... i mean, he hasn't seen Nadia in who knows how long...

Why would Nadia still be waiting for Sayid. She's probably married.

The way Sayid's acting to me seems like he thinks Nadia is dead, he's talked twice now about loosing someone close to him. Maybe she is dead and he found out somewhere in between when his flashback ends and the time before he got on the plane, if I remembering correctly there was a time laspe (short one but still) in there.

another problem solved by responsible non-monogamy.

You know, it's not impossible to love more than one person. He loved Nadia, she seemed like his first love, but that doesn't mean he couldn't love Shannon, especially when he has had no contact with Nadia in 7 years and thinks she could possibly be dead or will never see her again. Like others have said, he probably learned to let her go in that regard, but still kept her close in his heart. Just like I'm sure he will never "leave" Shannon in his heart.

I think Nadia is a long lost love and Shannon is in the here and now for Sayid. I don't really see the attraction for him, but love is mysterious. I like that Shannon was told "I love you" in a sincere way before she died. I bet no one has ever told her that except maybe Boone, but that's a troubled relationship at best.

Nah, he was just the victim of a poorly conceived plot idea that diminished the integrity of his character.

I never bought into the Shannon-Sayid relationship from day one since it flew so obviously (ridiculously so) in the face of the whole reason Sayid was on Flight 815: After years of relentlessly searching for Nadia he was finally on his way to see her.

A couple weeks into a plane crash he's going to forget all about getting off the island and Nadia and fall for a vapid, selfish model-type? Ridiculous. The whole relationship--just ridiculous. Best to forget it even happened. (And with Shannon and Boone now dead, that ain't gonna be hard.)

BTW, last night's flashback finally made Shannon a bit interesting, but it does not appear we are going to see her character develop anymore, so there you go.
