This may have been posted somewhere on another thread, so if its a repeat, I apologize. But it really struck me hard tonight just how much the mother/child concept plays into this show. If you look at all the Lostaways mums that we have seen to date, there seems to be a pattern developing of a mother that is overly controlling or crazy or mean or vindictive. Or just prone to making their offspring feel guilty, like they are not good enough and turning their lives into a living hell back in the real world. The only exception so far is Sawyer, but she died when he was so young and because of it, it has even colored who he is.

I mean, think about it....Jack's mom telling him it was his fault that his dad went to Australia, Hurley's mom makes him feel terrible about everything he does, including buying her a house, Locke's mom is just plain crazy and manipulative, Kate's mom turned against her and hates her when she is only trying to help her, Sun's mom wants her to marry the right man at any cost, Claire's mom disowned her for being with her boyfriend and being pregnant, Walt's mom took him away from Michael without any concern how it would affect either of them and now we see that Boone's mom and Shannon's stepmother's greed and caprice in the face of the loss of Shannon's dad.

I don't know about anyone else, but it does seem odd to me that no one that we know of yet seems to have a good, solid relationship with their mothers. Any thoughts or ideas?

I know there's talk about daddy issues, but we can safely say mommy issues here too. What about Claire and her baby now?

Perhaps that's why it's vital that Claire raise Aaron: she has to break this cycle, and since she's learning about motherhood from scratch -- outside of regular society -- she stands a better chance of doing so.

Or not.

Good thoughts. Interesting about Claire needing to raise the baby, Flotsam. Do you think JJ still talks to his mom? I never watched Alias, but I thought from the previews that she has mommy issues too.
