Hi there....
I don't know if there is anything you can do with the network, but the number of commercials on Lost this year has gone beyond excessive, especially compared to other shows on the same network. As an example, during Abandoned, we had as many as 11 commercials where I live during just one break compared to 5 to 6 during an Extreme Makeover Home Edition break that same week. I love the show, but I really think it is suffering this season in both continuity and storyline by having so many long breaks in between. And I know I'm not the only one that feels this way either. While I realize that Lost is a huge money maker for ABC right now, if people start flipping channels due to having to wait so long between episode segments because of commercials, then there is a good chance that they may not flip back at some point or just wait for the DVD's to come out to avoid the frustration, which does nothing to advance immediate revenues or an increase in ratings. Last season clocked in at an average of 43 minutes per episode, but this year, the average so far is 38 minutes by my calculation. Is that 5 extra minutes of commercials worth the potential future lost viewership to the network of a show that has all the potential of becoming this generation's Twilight Zone? Personally, I'd be happy with even product placement during, say flashbacks, to allow more time for the actual show itself.
Anything that you can plead to the network on behalf of the fan base would be greatly appreciated and I'm sure greatly returned.
