View Full Version : Rate the Episode!!! Karri 11-16-2005, 09:08 PM What did you think? addicted2much 11-16-2005, 11:14 PM YAY! Now ,that was a great episode. It may be my fave this year.:) PosseGal 11-16-2005, 11:19 PM Now that was some great Lost. It was interesting to see the difference in the post-crash environment versus the fusies. AnaLucia's last scene where she finally lets go and cries her eyes out at the stream was one of the most memorable the Lost cast has ever filmed. She held it together for 40 days then had to let go. I love Eko. I don't trust Cindy (stewardess) at all. My only real complaint is that this episode should have been a two hour or two parter. There was just so much to cover. Thanks, Lost creators. Brilliant. possesurf 11-16-2005, 11:23 PM It's great to see that Lost has gone back to it's roots. - good stuff, can't wait till next week. Superman 11-16-2005, 11:33 PM i think i may be the only one who will end up voting that this ep (at least for me) was a bit disappointing... the beginning was pretty awesome with the tail falling out of the sky and into the ocean... i just couldn't sympathize with Ana at all during this ep... i was starting to like her at the beginning, but then the way she transformed into what she was--i just didn't buy it... maybe it's because it all had to happen in this one episode... it just seemed like a fast transformation, though i guess if given a full season of character development like the regular cast, i probably would have been able to understand her more... i really liked Mr. Eko in this ep, and he was the lone bright spot for me... kind of a misleading "extended" ep as the last 5 minutes were a visual recap of what had happened already though now we have clear info on the death... the previews look pretty good for next week, though it looks like i'll still be hating on Ana from what i saw hehe... i LOVE Lost and have ranked every episode until now as bloody brilliant... this episode just didn't do it for me... Balguro 11-16-2005, 11:34 PM I for one like Ana much more than I did before. She's got the spine that someone in our group needs even though she's a bit too jumpy. Over all I like her more than Jack. belshep 11-16-2005, 11:38 PM I loved this episode. Some questions have been answered (who/what did Boone hear on the radio, who were the kids walking through the jungle, why were they suspicious of Jin) and yet there are new questions for us to discuss. I thought they did a very good job of giving us character development in just one episode, especially for AL, Eko and Bernard. I also thought they did a brillinat job of giving us mirror images to the Pilot episode of the Lostaways (the CPR, Nathan/Ethan, the guy with the injured leg). I have to watch this episode a few more times because there was a lot to absorb. One question - chickens??? How come we never saw them before? Controversleigh 11-16-2005, 11:39 PM danger, we must not have been watching the same show lol. That was the most brilliant hour of tv I've seen in ages....seriously. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, I got misty when Ana cried....this explains everything with her....and p.s. she SO knew about Goodiwn from the get go....Nathan was just a mirage. i_love_dmjgmfna 11-16-2005, 11:43 PM That was such an awesome episode! One of their best. PosseGal 11-16-2005, 11:44 PM One question - chickens??? How come we never saw them before? I have to post this. When we saw the chicken scene, my husband and I said almost at the same time, "oh, look, the tailies get the other white meat..." :) Which brought to mind another point. Sayid can't eat pork if he is Muslim, right? sickotriz 11-16-2005, 11:53 PM Great show! One of their best. Indeed. I really enjoyed this episode. I love how the fact that Goodwin was an other tied back to the conversation that Eko and Jin had about him, where Jin said "Others?" and Eko nodded... so cool! I didn't guess it until this episode. So much to discuss/ theorize about for the rest of the week... don't see how anyone could be disappointed, but whatever. Different strokes... Again, I loved it! sier 11-17-2005, 12:05 AM I agree. I even changed my avatar right after I watched this episode...haha. I thought this was the best of the season so far. The acting was a little weak in a few spots, but no big deal at all. I thought the lack of overall music was a nice touch. The "Ana-Lucia turns psychopath" was a little twisted, but I guess we did torture Sawyer in the first season... Overall, really cool. Lots of really cool information to absorb. Superman 11-17-2005, 12:28 AM okay, so i just watched the episode again, and i have to recant my previous review... i liked the ep a lot... i was just really caught up in what Ana had become there at the end, and was reminded of how much i hate her character there... i wouldn't rate this as my favorite episode, but it's still pretty good :) i will say one positive thing about Ana in this ep-- she looked damn good... and i mean, DAMN good... orliknight09 11-17-2005, 12:33 AM this epi was definitely one of their best. sassafras 11-17-2005, 12:51 AM Riveting. Best episode this season - had my heart pounding like it did last season. In one short hour, I became quite invested in these characters. At first, I was thinking "aw, I don't care about these people", but after the first minute, I stopped reminiscing about what Jack & company would have been doing at that time... teridactyl 11-17-2005, 12:57 AM i really liked this episode. not as good as the pilot episodes, but good. i really like ana. even though it sucks they made her the one who killed shannon. i was really upset when i learned that shannon was the one who would be killed next but once i got used the idea, it didn't bother me as much. im glad some of the questions have been answered, but now i have more questions. can't wait for next week. i wish they had showed a new episode in invasion's timeslot!!! XxNicholeexX 11-17-2005, 01:06 AM I didn't really like this episode that much. Normally when I'm watching LOST I tend to, um, get very caught up in it. To the point where I end up yelling at my TV and stuff. The only time that I was really caught up in it was towards the end when Ana shut off the radio and was saying that Boone was one of "them." I think the best part of this episode was the end. We now have confirmation that Ana did kill Shannon. I was getting a little bored with the theories about that. Camperjen 11-17-2005, 01:36 AM I really enjoyed this one--not my fav, but really good. I just wish it truly would have been longer, so we could've seen some more development during those 48 days--seemed like they had to rush it a bit. The White Lady 11-17-2005, 01:47 AM Good episode, and interesting to see the other side of the story but it felt *very* stilted and abrupt. I would rather they had taken two weeks and shown more. Definitely gained a whole new apprecation for Ana, though, to the point that she is now one of my favourite characters. metallidevils 11-17-2005, 01:50 AM wow, how in the world could you call this a filler? QueenElessar 11-17-2005, 01:58 AM I ADORED THIS EPISODE!!! I was prepared to be indifferent to it, because I'm a big baby, and I wanted to see my regular cast members. I'm HELLA stubborn, and within the first 2 minutes, I was in tears! I cannot believe how wrapped up I got in this whole episode! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time...completely rivited. I had complete forgotten about Boone's transmission and when I heard his voice, I actually screamed! And the flashy quick cuts of Sawyer, Mike and Jin...and the Shannon shooting....brilliant! I honestly have nothing bad to say about this epiosde! sickotriz 11-17-2005, 02:03 AM wow, how in the world could you call this a filler? Seriously. Filler is definitely what this episode was NOT. I will say it again, this was an awesome episode. 2 thumbs up. lightnshadows 11-17-2005, 03:07 AM Oh this was an amazing episode...easily one of the best this season....awesome beginning with the plane crashing in the water......so many questions were addressed... ...I'm really lovin Ana's character...she actually has a spine and I guess we learned she's very smart...went after Nathan and didn't catch on to Goodwin right away but she eventually did...although looks like they're going to try and make me hate her again next week....and didn't see the Goodwin twist coming at all....loved it how she smoothly revealed to him that she knew his secret...at first it was wha??? then atta girl...that was a tense moment....I thought Eko was going to show up to help but she got him out there alone knowing she was going to confront him without any backup, gave him the knife even...she's either real brave or....now I have to know what she did before... ...Eko was awesome also, easily one of the most interesting characters out of either groups...40 days of "fasting", a cleansing and letting it go...how opposite from Ana letting it all build up for 40 days....that was a very nice contrast.... I'm distrusting Libby a lot now, cmon....so how do they know about us? or do you think they know?(paraphrased), acting all innocent:biggrin: ....then when AL replied "why do think I'm digging this?" I thought that's right now put her in the pit..... loved the way they recapped and wrapped up the episode and next weeks looks like another keeper....great job Lost.... katibtrfly 11-17-2005, 03:09 AM Great show! Oooh... that's right... We thought Eko was saying, "Yes, Jin, the Others did this to him." But he was really saying, "Yes, Jin, that's an Other." Nice... -kt mforrest28 11-17-2005, 03:25 AM Thought the content was pretty good, but still don't love the tailies except Eko. Ana continues to bug me, and I thought her crying scene was actually really bad and not convincing (esp after last week, where I thought Shannon was great). Rich&Single 11-17-2005, 03:30 AM even though it was a "flashback" episode to the first 48 days on the island, this episode really gave some "forward" information to push the story along! great ep! Lija 11-17-2005, 04:05 AM A I liked the development of the Eko character right up to the point where we realized how completely out of character his attack on Sawyer, Michael and Jin was. Did not fit him at all. I felt the same way. I cringed when I knew it was the part where he beat up on Sawyer & co. I know they were afraid, but still, it does seem out of character, much more violent than necessary. I hope that this is explained at some point. Well, explained better, I guess I should say. Lija 11-17-2005, 04:16 AM I thought it was a great ep, too. Loved seeing it all from a different point of view. banshee 11-17-2005, 04:31 AM I'm honestly surprised so many voted for it being a great ep.. Lost couldn't be bad if it tried, but I found the format of this ep distracting...The 5-10 minutes of scenes then going from one day to the next too often, just didn't smoothly transition for me & it felt disconnected. I was interested in the stuff about the Others, but I didn't come away w/any different of an impression of the TE's than I had before. Imo, it wasn't bad but was nothing special. Still the best stuff on tv & I'm less partial to other episodes than this one. Lost_In_Louisiana 11-17-2005, 05:05 AM This episode was unbelievably exciting and completely enthralling!!! :D I see now why the writers were happy to get a later time slot. The girl floating face down, the up-close view of the compound fracture and setting of the bone in that leg, the dead bodies floating in the water, the stake through Goodwin: all very disturbing images which allowed us to really FEEL a part of the confusion and shock of this episode. The dialogue was a bit rough too - especially the part where Ana-Lucia spoke of cutting off Nathan's finger to make him talk. Risky stuff but SO impressive for a weekly TV drama. Was everyone not hanging onto the edge of their seat while watching Goodwin and Ana-Lucia pass that knife back and forth? What a tense and superbly directed scene!!! I felt like I was holding my breath waiting for the inevitable showdown. Impressive writing I must say and this epi will probably stand the test of time and remain in the Top 5 best episodes of LOST ever. Bengoshi2000 11-17-2005, 08:14 AM I have to agree with the folks labeling this a mediocre episode (among Lost episodes that is... still better than anything else on TV period!) Prior to this episode, I had the distinct impression that the Tailies had been psychologically terrorized by the Others on a near daily basis... thus explaining their extreme suspicion of Jin, Sawyer and Michael. Then in this episode we get nothing of that sort... no terror... no whispers... zilch... nada. To top it off the Others weren't even that spooky... completely unlike Ethan. Ethan had some type of superhuman strength. The Others in this episode could be taken out with a rock... disappointing. The opening scene was a true "wow" moment, as was Ana's brief conversation with Goodwin... but even that failed to deliver the chills I was expecting. Overall, Ecko was the most interesting to me and by far the most likeable Tailie. I want to know more about him, his background, and his interest in the Bible found in the Dharma bunker. Just one Man's opinion tho... pacejunkie 11-17-2005, 08:46 AM I loved every minute! The only reason it wasn't my favorite ever is because it didn't feature our favorite fusies but I knew that so I'm not disappointed. So much new information it will take me some time to process it all (munch...munch..chew). Love chewy tv! smokiman 11-17-2005, 08:51 AM For me, that was definately one of the best episodes of Lost. It was like old-school S1 without the S1 cast. Luv2BLost 11-17-2005, 09:04 AM I felt that this episode was better than the last two, and loved the beginning with the tail end of the plane falling out of the sky and the chaos. It had me spellbound like the 1st episode of the series. I like Ana-Lucia a little more (and I do mean little since previously I abslolutely hated her) and I am fascinated by Mr. Ecko. I can't wait to see his backstory. I was disappointed with the Peace Corp dude being the spy as I felt it was predictable. I would have liked to see the tailies meet up with the monster:ohwell: vanger 11-17-2005, 09:09 AM I am just happy that they didn't try to fill it with backstories. That has killed the past few episodes for me. The flashbacks have run their course, for me. But the thing that made this episode so good.....more Cynthia Watros!!! Utopian Prototype Hatch Member 11-17-2005, 09:12 AM I loved the opening-from the perspective of the others and I liked the sound design of that opening scene, silence to......BOOM! This episode answered more mysteries and puzzles (Goodwin's death, etcthan any other previous episode while still leaving the big ones-LostZilla, Dharma, unanswered. This was the first episode where I only had to watch the show one time to get it-no slow motion looking for clues, no conspiracy theory screencaps from other posters. I did see a Canadian preview of the show-Mr eko drawing the box in the sand, this was cut from the final edit. But what was that all about? JTWood 11-17-2005, 09:14 AM I voted below-average on last week's episode, but this one got an above-average vote from me. I liked the stories a lot, but I can't get over two things. First, it was total bullspit for ABC to advertise this episode as being "extended" when it was really just stuffed with a super-long Invasion commercial and clips from other Season Two episodes. That royally pissed me off. I was even cussing at my television. Second, the editing in this show was flat-out awful. The herky-jerky, day-to-day movement was terrible. There had to have been a better way to cover the 48 days than that. Those two things aside, the writing was good, the answers to so many questions were great, and my anticipation for next week is now at peak levels. JTWood 11-17-2005, 09:15 AM Didn't last week have like 50+ votes for "One of their best?" How is it that 85 people can vote that way this week? Jacks Dad 11-17-2005, 09:18 AM AMAZING! It really brought back the feel of the Pilot episodes. Loved the character development even in light of the speed at which it moved. Ana is truly a great character. The way they showed her transform from a person with a softness about her to the Ana that we knew was great. She is extremely observant and very street smart. She can also kick some serious ***, and looks oh so good in those jeans  The scene between her and Eko was great. As was the one between her and Goodwin. Very "on the edge of your seat" stuff. Eko is definitely one of my favorite characters at this point. I have a feeling that he is very religious, but wasn't always that way. We have seen hints of his darker side, and he has a ferocity that is at this point unmatched on the island. He took out 2 "Others" alone!! A good guy to have on your side. I look forward to his backstory to find out just what he is all about. The opening scene was very well done. So calm and then BAM! Now it's on.... I didn't expect it to start that way at all. Did anyone notice, during the whisper scene, that there was a flash of what looked like one of the others just before Ana shot? I haven't had a chance to watch again, but I think I saw something there. I also figured it was Goodwin becuase they were shoving Nathan down our throats. All the creepy looks and the dissapearing for two hours thing. Plus him being from Canada and even looking like Ethan too. I was thinking that they were playing games with that one. Great episode and I can't freakin wait till next week....should be a good one too. ddandie 11-17-2005, 09:22 AM I really enjoyed the episode, and I think that was , in large part, due to the fact that I kept away from spoilers. I was an avid spoiler-watcher, but found that it was detracting from my enjoyment of the show....and I think I was right. Anyway-- the storyline was great--AL is starting to grow on me (thusfar I've hated her) and I hope we see more of Eko and Libby, my two favorite Tailies. That being said.... I *miss* our orginal Lostaways. I'm looking forward to more character interaction with the group--more Kate, more Jack, more Hurley, more Locke , please! Next weeks episode looks fantastic. (Yes , I did watch the preview---I'm not going cold turkey on those too--nothing too spoilerish in there anyway!) lostindixie 11-17-2005, 09:28 AM I was prepared to dislike this episode mainly because I like the original Lostaways. But instead I really enjoyed it.Some things were predictable ( Boone on the other end of the radio) but it did give a lot of info about the Others. All in all I thought it was a very good episode .I can't wait for next week. Oggie 11-17-2005, 09:32 AM Sorry, this was a way above average episode for Lost. And all of Lost's episodes are above average compared to other shows. We learned the plane did crash. We saw the others in action. They do look like normal people. We saw how bad it was for the Tailaways. We saw that the Others knew the plane was coming down. Matter of fact, they had spys waiting at the crash sites of both the tail section (Goodman) and the mid section (Ethan Rom). We learned some of why the others were taking who they were taking. They only took the "Good" people. Now if they ment actions or physical condition I dont know. We learned they WANTED to take Eko, but Eko killed two of them and it scarred him emotionally for it. We also see that Eko sees way more then a normal person should. Just like John Locke. He knew Ana-Lucia was hurting. BrownEyedGrrl 11-17-2005, 09:33 AM I loved this episode. Ditto to everything, including the chickens! Zada 11-17-2005, 09:38 AM I really enjoyed this episode and makes it so I can't wait for next week! Plus, Libby mentioned Stowe! Can't be all that bad. But Stowe is so cliche and a tourist trap.;) bearsgonefishin 11-17-2005, 10:02 AM I agree with all those who thought this was a great episode, the beginning was great, I thought it was edited well and gave us a full feeling of what it was like to be a tailie. I was one of those who absolutley hated AL, but I now feel empathy for her (I assumed I would after her backstory) but still cringe a little when she gets her attitude. Eko and Libby are my favorites I believe they will both play important roles this season and be fan favorites before season 2 concludes. Lastly no more debate about who killed Shannon, if the podcast wasnt enough, last nights episode should be. cant wait til next week. Lastly this epi made me think the flight attendant may not have been taken, she could def be an other. Who knows, come on Wednesday!!!! Spirit4ever 11-17-2005, 10:34 AM I really enjoyed this episode. I liked how it left open space to answer questions in future episodes. I was even holding my breath when Bernard was in the tree even though I knew that he would survive. And when Ana was talking w/Goodwin my heart was pounding. Great Ep! lonegunwoman 11-17-2005, 11:00 AM This episode was riveting. Two different times I said, "What the He**? I didn't see that coming." I love that feeling when I watch a show. I liked the way the epi covered the big events from day 1 to day 41 without getting bogged down in details. Saying that I do want to know more background on AL and Eko. I understand AL and Eko's brutality and AL's attitude now. BEST OF ALL THERE WAS NO FILLER in this epi. The only negative view I have is that the epi didn't cover how Eko knew that the Others never leave tracks and how Eko was so in tune to the Others movements. As far as this episode shows the Tailees only exposure to the Other is when people were taken and Goodwin. How would the tailess know so much based on that? I feel like I missed something. BUT I really ennjoyed this episode. The writers did a great job. tadream 11-17-2005, 11:35 AM Yeah, I'm on the mediocre bus. Some good info, but still dragging us away from the big picture a bit. Some clues in there, but it was a little rushed. A two -parter would have done more justice to filling in the details, but I expect we'll get some more detail in upcoming eps. Besides the Others attacks, the lack of luggage and "luxuries" that the middies have would explain their different demeanor. Fills in my "two groups of others" theory a bit. The modern-clothed "civilized" group and the "wild" group. Still think the Ethans, Goodwins, Boat People are educated, "controllers" of the "wild" group. Smart Others made the list. Wild Others were filling it. Tristan 11-17-2005, 12:43 PM I really liked this episode. It was fascinating to see the so similar but so different history of the other castaways. The fuselage people should count their lucky stars. And it was simply riveting television. I loved the way we have been led to hate Ana Lucia and then shown the horrific events that made her believe she had to be that way, making us empathize with her to some extent at least. I was half wishing they had started the season with this episode but of course that would not have worked at all. We needed to see the tail folk from the rafters’ point of view first or there would have been no tension or mystery when the latter were captured. But it would have such a shock to all the fans to have the season start out with a whole new set of characters - hilarious. The episode did feel somewhat rushed to me and I would have been happy to see the same events play out over two hours so that there could have been more development of the characters and of their conflict with the Others. Otherwise, I am in no hurry for solutions to the mysteries. I am quite content to have them spin them out for weeks or years while they focus on character interaction. That is part of the unique charm of Lost. JAZZYJ 11-17-2005, 12:53 PM I loved this episode, still not my favorite but, LOST never lets me down, it is always the best way to spend my time, YOU ALL EVERYBODY!!!! shanzy288 11-17-2005, 02:03 PM Yeah, I'm on the mediocre bus. The ep suffered because a) we already knew the outcome of almost every conflict (the Others took three the first night, twelve two weeks later; Bernard lives, Nathan and Goodwin don't; etc.) and b) the pacing was ridiculously hurried. Though I've complained of the glacial pace of the show in the past, there has to be a happy medium between taking 29 episodes to cover 48 days and doing it in ONE episode. We didn't get much sense of the tailaways' growing paranoia and despair because we were flipping from one incident to the next. Also, while having people dragged away from the campfire is terrifying, it didn't quite warrant Ana's snarly "[The Others] are animals." It needed some impalements or dismemberments to up the stakes. :) The highlight of the ep was the Nathan/Goodwin switcheroo, which I loved because I didn't see it coming (d'oh!); the scene with A-Lu and Goodwin passing the knife back and forth had all the tension that the rest of the eppy didn't. And the reveal that the Others want those who are "good" was pretty chilling (and explained why they've been leaving the fusies alone ;)). Eko and Libby have emerged as more interesting than Ana, I think--though I do enjoy her (except for a sinking feeling that she's about to eat the show alive). Mainly we saw that she was courageous and well-meaning but made one crappy decision after another, which means that she is just a straw rival to our Dr. Jack. Again, the word is disappointing. Oh, and I hope they leave Ana out of the Rhombus of Luv and let her hook up with Eko, because they have great chemistry. Dmcquickly 11-17-2005, 02:20 PM My only real complaint is that this episode should have been a two hour or two parter. There was just so much to cover. PosseGal, I completely agree with that. The tailies characters are still too flat to care much about, and that's what made us get hooked on this show last year--the flashbacks that revealed so much about them as people. I thought this would present an excellent chance for the creative people to explore a handful of new people and get us to care about them as well. Ana Lucia still seems too flat a character for her crying to have been touching. I mean, okay, she's crying, but why should I care that much about her to feel empathy--I don't even know what I'm being empathetic towards. Is she miserable because her leadership is so hard, or because she had someplace to be (LA), or because she actually did have children...I know those things come out slowly through the course of the show, but we know nothing of most of these people other than "in the moment" stuff, which keeps them from being sympathetic characters yet. I'm looking forward to more about them! ortiz34 11-17-2005, 02:28 PM i didnt like the fade to black and return with date stamp, i kept thought they were going to commercial. Some days were very quickly glossed over nooai 07-16-2008, 02:40 PM This was a great episode….simply because it told us everything that had been happening to the tailies right from the beginning. My first impression of Ana Lucia and Mr.Eko was that I like them! They were like the hero and heroine, the male and female leader of the group….saving the lives of others… It was only when The Others starting attacking that Ana Lucia became the paranoid and cold-hearted woman she was for the rest of her time on the island. I don’t know why it took Mr. Eko 40 days to begin talking though. I like Libby too. Ana Lucia is a cold –hearted and stubborn b****, no doubt. This characteristic works fine for a man, but not for a woman. Man, Goodwin did a very good job as the spy for the Others, I must say. Even I wouldn’t have suspected that he was actually a spy had I been one of the tailies. He played his part very well, pretending to be one of them….and Ana Lucia didn’t suspect a thing until 40 days later. It is a scary thought, come to think of it….the enemy has been trekking through the jungle with them all the while, and they didn’t even know it. They didn’t even smell the danger lurking within them….they didn’t know that they were actually sleeping with the enemy. Question: Why didn’t Goodwin kill Ana Lucia at the very beginning? Why did he wait until 40 days to attempt to kill her? So now I know that it’s Ana Lucia who killed Goodwin. When I saw his dead body in ‘The Other Woman’- I thought it was Ben who killed him. Hah. (Yes, I watch season 4 before watching season 2). |
