Some people were commenting that there seemed to be a geometric shape in the sand during the early beach scenes. To me, it looked like the knee tracks of a man who was semi-crawling on the beach. Although why he did in that shape was odd...

Yeah, I noticed that, too. It looked like someone had been crawling and left tracks, but the tracks left a really weird shape...

Yes, it was a survivor crawling along the sand, kind of making a semi-circle from the ocean, up the shore, and across the screen from right to left. You could still see him at the end of his tracks, crawling on his hands and knees, as the shot cut away.

It was a very exact 'chevron' shape in the sand. If it was made by a man crawling, he crawled in a very straight line, made close to a 45 degree turn and crawled back toward the water, again in a straight line. It looked too exact, to me, to be random. I wondered at the time if the lines could be seen from ground level or if they were like the lines in Peru that you can only see from the air.

I watched the scene twice as it jumped out at me. You definitely could see him crawling to form the symbol in the sand. You would think that someone injured and stunned from a plane crash would simply be lying there looking for someone to help him instead of crawling geometric patterns in the sand.

At first I thought maybe they were trying to make a shape or something that could be soon from the air, for rescue planes.

It really was odd and I wonder if it is important (mainly because if I noticed it, then it really was something that jumped out!).

Can someone get a screen cap of that. I noticed it too, and thought there were two people invovled. Would like to see the shape and any items placed around it.

i saw it, it looked like it would be a pentagon or hexagon if completed, but only about half of it was visible.

Yeah, I saw that too!! But I just thought it was some poor "extra" acting. Everytime they said, "Action" he started crawling!!! :biggrin:

I immediately thought of the Dharma logo too. But isn't the Dharma logo an octagon...8 sides? I'll check.

It is at most two straightish lines, with a fairly sharpish bend between them. Connecting it to an octagon like the Dharma logo feels like a bit of a stretch to me. I do like the idea of an extra being a bit mischevious though :) If you want to check, the external angle of an octagon is 360/8 = 45 degrees...

Also, that looks like Nathan coming out of the ocean in his red t-shirt.... Which would suggest he wasn't an other, or a other other, as some are suggesting.

And if - for fun - we assume that it's the beginning of a Dharma logo, look who's at its center....Mr.Eko.

Now this is really reaching. It looks to me like a guy crawling because he has injured legs.

I think he collapsed because the tracks don't start at the water they start where that black and white guy are. I rewatched it and the guy that goes to help him does look like Hurley. Strange

it just looks like a guy crawling to me, and he turns slightly past some burning rubble (that's burning--not barney. and don't go looking for barney on the plane--that's bernie, not barney).

sorry, i just gotta laugh. it cracks me up sometimes how we really do try to read so much into so little! i'm not immune--i get in on it too, it's just in this particular instance i think it really is just some guy crawling on a beach after a plane crash. you can poke me with eko's big stick if it turns out i'm wrong.

That's what I thought too! But how could it be... It's hard to keep track of the tailees because so many of them only had 5 minutes screentime..

So guy who looks like Hurley from the back, and guy crawling and making geometric shapes died pretty quick huh..

After traumatic events people do weird things - I think he was just disoriented after the crash and the other guy thought so too - if you watch the episode the second guy is coming to help the crawler.

Its not Nathan. Nathans shirt sleeves are down to his forearms, for one. That's the lady with short grey hair shown in some later scenes, like the chicken one. The first Natan shot has him sitting on the beach, during the opening credits.

I tried to find a Nathan in the water shot the other night to disprove the "Nathan is another Other" theory but alas, couldn't.

I have to go with unintentional here. He was crawling strainght and then turned at the burning wreckage. He also seems to be favouring one leg. Plus, it doesn't make any sense for there to be symbolism in his actions. How is he connected to the island, besides having just crashed on it? Why would he be sketching out something in the sand with injured legs? Even for Lost this is way too much of a stretch. He could have been "drawing" a happy face even! Might as well start looking for patterns in the tree branches!

Well......I was seeing the picture wrong until I enlarged it. I thought that there were people lying down in three places near the path of the crawling man, but two of those shapes were just debris from the plane. It still looks to me like he was trying to crawl to where someone (maybe someone he knew?) was lying down, so he could see if they were ok, but he had to crawl around the burning wreckage.

I guess with this show you can't bank on anything. But his path really draws (pun intended) your eyes to the pattern. Our brain is always looking for recognizable patterns and I guess this one was too hard to ignore. Keeps us guessing doesn't it. :biggrin:

Wow. What a stretch!

The actor probably crawled too far (past his mark) and they yelled at him to turn in the right direction/spot. Why restart the whole scene and smooth the beach for some silly little line in the sand? Too expensive.

It was noticeable but nothing special about it.

Just a guy dragging his fractured legs behind him. He may have been crawling towards someone.

starting to get a tiny bit annoying to see how much people on this board try to see everything as a sign of something. like ana's hair was lying down her face a bit weird so people start to say: it must be the two bottom lines of the dharma logo the hair is making out to be..and look at what's behind her! a tree with moss on it that locke must have made with his green stone. and look who she is looking at...EKO! this much mean they are all others signing out that they represent a dharma logo! omg we're doomed!!!

I think the guy was just crawling around, looking for someone or something.

That other dude does look like Hurley, though.
