It was a reallt fast cut near the middle of the show where there is a camera shot that is from the ground looking up (not sure who was in the scene). Anyway, in that quick shot, you can see the tops of trees and I could have sworn I saw some black smoke swirling in the air. I don't have screen shots, but if anyone Tivo'd it, please take a look and let me know. Thanks a lot - loved the episode tonight - best one in a while.

I instantly thought of smoke from the wreckage of the rest of the plane...Nothing more...

Well, the reason I think it's not the plane reckege is that they had moved inward by that point, and also, the smoke resembled that of what surrounds the "monster". But, it was so fast, and I can't look back to check, I might be completely wrong.

I saw it to. I also can't remember what scene, but it looked like it was swirling above the trees, but you could only see it for about 2 seconds

No, that wasn't it. The smoke was clearly smoke, not sun reflecting off the camera lens.

One of my students brought this up as we were leaving the LOST club meeting, but I haven't gone back to look at it. She thought maybe it was the smoke from the Others' fire that night Charlie and Sayid went after Danielle. But that seems to late in the timeline of the Island to have occurred at that point in the show.

Looks like smoke to me. Not to mention that huge black thing behind the trees. I wonder what that is.
