She seemed to hesitate when Eko asked her about children. Maybe she was in a Claire like position herself, but actually did put the baby up for adoption.

It definately left room for her backstories.

Anyone think she was a female Sayid? An interrogator for the US Military? She was just too good at keeping Nathan in the hole and was going to cut off his finger. That's not something a School Teacher would do.

I got the feeling that maybe Ana had wanted kids but maybe couldn't have any, or maybe she had a miscarriage, or husband (if she's married) didn't want them...it seemed like she liked kids and wanted one.

I think whatever the case may be (in regards to having a child, wanting a child, etc.) the writers may have put this into the story so we could see a "soft side" to Ana Lucia. Although I don't think she looked very mothering to the children at all. Libby and Cindy seemed to be the ones taking care of the children, and Libby seemed the most disturbed when they were taken.
