So the Others had made a list of whom to take? Are we assuming that Goodwin had sneaked and told them who and what the people looked like (clothing, etc), or was "whom to take" predetermined before the crash assuming that Dharma has to do with the Others/planecrash/etc.?

Likw Goodwin was nearby when the crash happened/knew the crash was going to take place and ran onto the beach and began acting as one of the Tailies? Just like our good friend Ethan?

I was really struggling over that as well, trying to figure out how quickly the list was created and how the information was obtained.

I have no other thoughts, just noting that I wondered about the same thing and would love some ideas...

I'm thinking that because neither Goodwin or Ethan had really solid stories ready to go that they weren't expecting exactly what was going to happen.

If they were in control, then they would have had far more info and had better stories prepared.

Yeah the list...I feel that both Goodwin and Ethan were part of the others. Like Ana Lucia was saying to Goodwin, they were dry, it was only 10mins that the plane crashed into the water and they were dried. I wanna know how they knew that the tailies were gonna crash on that end of the island?

What is interesting is the timeline. We don't know who made the list but it is possible someone privately took a census about the same time Hurley was making his and discovered Ethan (they were both about two weeks in). If Goodwin or Nathan made the list however, was it of everyone and by what criteria did they determine who was good (fit for the study?) and who was "bad"? We don't really know what those terms mean to the Others.

Goodwin, assumingly, kept reporting back to the others after compiling this list. The paper had to have been taken from the plane. Do you really think the others have stacks of legal pads chilling on the island when they don't have fresh clothes? I'm sure Goodwin either compiled the list or listed attributes and conferred with top others advisors asto who to select. Seems like messageboarders are really going out a limb this week to try to explain simple things.... must have been to the two weeks off that have got your minds fried.

I agree that Goodwin probably compiled the list of who to take, but how he (and Ethan) knew the plane was going to crash and got those clothes baffles me. We also now know that when Eko and Jin saw the kids it was the first time since they had been taken. Why didn't he do something then to try and get them back? What did they look like when he saw them? The living dead maybe?

If the Others had their own hatch, or access to an abandoned hatch, they might have a paper/pen supply... I mean, think of all the random stuff in the Swan Hatch. Maybe the Others have occupied someplace like that, which might explain a random US Army knife's appearance, too.

I wonder if all the Others had a copy of the list (that Goodwin made/organized/passed out?)... Or if it was just lucky that Anna killed the Other who had the list on her. If the killed-by-Anna-Other was the only list carrier, I wonder what her significance was... In other words, I wonder if she was the "leader" for that invasion?

I don't think they did know. Maybe they were the designated "watchers" for that section of the island or that certain hatch. Maybe they were there to watch over certain experiments when - boom - plane crashes and they have all these new people to deal with.

Me too. I have been assuming that Ethan found a suitcase with clothes in his size, but I can't figure out how come Goodwin was able to emerge from the jungle looking so stylish just moments after the plan crashed.

Also OT, but I noticed in a recent interview with Michelle Rodriguez that MIchelle wears a ring on her left hand ring figure, even though she's single, to signify that she's married to herself/her work (or some such).

Maybe the writers liked that idea and decided to incorporate it into Ana Lucia's character as well.

Why isn't anyone mentioning what Goodwin told Ana:

"Nathan was not a good person. That's why he wasn't on the list."

Have we forgotten about that? Seems to me that there was a bigger factor in the formation of the list than just what people were wearing... some plan more grand than just kidnapping people simply based on what their clothes.

polar bears have been know to grow thumbs, learn to sew, then make clothes for random strange people on an island. i saw a movie on this at the zoo.

Somehow I think its plausible that Libby is in cohorts with Goodwin, when Ana confronts Nathan about being gone for 2 hours, and she states they have a system for going in pairs, who goes with Goodwin those first two weeks?.... Libby herself comes to Ana saying Nathan freaks her out (maybe implying a plant in her head that HE not anyone else had something to do with the first being taken), second, I never saw her in the water., she could of been close by and on the beach as Goodwin was, also she suggested they leave the beach, which Goodwin says time to let the signal fires go out, (drawing them into the jungle, where the rest are more vunerable), and she doesn't act surprised or perturbed when Ana comes back from killing Goodwin, Bernard, Eko, Cindy are sharing glances at one another by not Libby, more kinda dead on stare. Just a thought.

Click on the button, "User CP" above. On that page there will be a box on the left hand side that says, "Control Panel." The first column says "Settings and Options" the fifth (and last) one down says, "Edit Avatar." You should be good from there.
