View Full Version : No whispers, hallucinations, numbers, coincidences, etc....
shootfire 11-17-2005, 12:37 AM Isn't it strange? The tailies haven't experienced any of the weirdness that the original lostaways have experienced during their 48 days. From what we saw, the only time they experienced the whispers was right before their encounter with Shannon and Sayid. Weird things don't happen on their side of the island? It seems their first 48 days have been all about the others. Thoughts?

I was thinking when Nathan had them stop at the creek, where he said there was fruit and a rock wall (?), they we're in safe territory. For some reason the others couldn't find them, or enter that area.
It wasn't until Goodwin killed Nathan that they felt unsafe again and began moving out of the Light Territory?
writejess 11-17-2005, 12:41 AM I noticed that, too. They didn't see, or rather feel/hear/run in terror from the monster either. Someone else on another thread suggested maybe the monster was protecting them? It has only killed the pilot, and it could easily have plucked off any one of the survivors. And only a few of the originals have died, whereas most of the tail section is gone.
So maybe they're in kind of the Bermuda Triangle section of the island, where all the really freaky things happen?
Ray66 11-17-2005, 12:41 AM This is why I believe the area in which the Tailies were living in was abandoned by Dharma or what have you.
But notice, just before Shannon is shot.....EVERYONE hears whispering. Not just out Lostaways. And not just a single independent person. But everyone, including the Tailies. And that took place right smack in our Lostaways area of the island.
Lostaways near Electro Magnetic Hatch - Numbers, Whispering, Visions, Hallucinations, Security System.
Tailies near Zoology hatch - Nothing but attacks from others. Alot of them.
Which leads me to believe that Dharma is done with the Tailies part of the island. But is still performing experiements or whatever in out Lostaways and Danielle's portions of the island.
belshep 11-17-2005, 12:47 AM No polar bears for the Tailies either. My impression was that their side of the island only had danger from actual human beings, nothing else seemed out of place or abnormal.
I agree it could be hatch-related. SInce their hatch was obviously abandoned and non-functional, maybe nothing weird was being generated by it.
i_love_dmjgmfna 11-17-2005, 12:47 AM I found it odd that the tailies heard no whispers, too. And no monster. And no crazy French Lady.
shootfire 11-17-2005, 12:49 AM No polar bears for the Tailies either.
They had a chicken though. My thought was that Hurley was on the wrong side of the island.
Ray66 11-17-2005, 12:50 AM Also, on another note.
If the Tailies' hatch was Zoology...how come all they got was a chicken-ish critter running around?
BUt our Lostways on the other side of the island...get Polar Bears....Boar....Locke was cutting up a squirrel or something...
Ya know?
Shouldn't there be animal's near the hatch created for *slaps forehead* animals?
But then again..if the Tailie's hatch was abandoned like I believe..then the animals could have easily migrated.
*shrugs*
WishIWasInOahu 11-17-2005, 12:58 AM I think that they probably have heard the whispers and had weird stuff happen but there just wasn't that much time to show all of it. Think about how long its taken for all the weird stuff to happen on the other side... Anyways the reason I think that they have heard the whispers before is that when they hear them just before Ana Lucia shoots Shannon, they automatically are scared and know that the whispers = bad stuffs about to go down. If they had never heard the whispers before that moment then they would all be like "what the heck is that?" instead of "Oh God!" and "RUN!!!!" lol just my idea
Ray66 11-17-2005, 01:03 AM Well, I mean, Ana and all of them were on EDGE. Their friend was just grabbed from under their noses.
If I had never heard whispering or strange ambient talking all around me...I'd want to run too, thinking it was the Other's. Who have been harrassing and kidnapping my group of survivors since we arrived on this island.
But, that's just me. I believe they never heard whispering before because..there just wasn't anything creepy going on over in Tailie Land.
waltisfuture 11-17-2005, 01:11 AM They had a chicken though. My thought was that Hurley was on the wrong side of the island.
:clapping:
Didn't Ana mention seeing a boar? I thought she said something about having bacon for breakfast? (Charlie had that weird bacon dream)

AHHH THAT'S RIGHT.
Me= Got Owned.
belshep 11-17-2005, 01:15 AM They had a chicken though. My thought was that Hurley was on the wrong side of the island.
That's funny! Maybe the chickens saw Hurley and immediately migrated to the other side of the island.
Guinevere 11-17-2005, 01:15 AM The big surprise to me was that the monster wasn't heard or seen! Only one reference to a boar AND they have chickens on that side of the island!!!!
piscescat 11-17-2005, 05:22 AM It seemed from what was shown that the Tailies did a lot less exploring in their area, esp with finding a hatch for shelter. With the threat of the Others kidnapping their group, the Tailies didn't go planting gardens and running reconnaissance missions. And with fewer members to feed, they were probably ok with the immediate fruit and occasional chicken. (Although I wonder if the chicken was from the Others since Goodwin caught it so well.) So with less contact with the island, there was less chance of encountering the security system, whispers, etc. As for connections between the Tailies in the past, it still remains to be seen. Maybe they have connections to the Lostaways instead.
Bengoshi2000 11-17-2005, 07:31 AM The lack of whispers was darn peculiar and annoyed me. Somehow I had gotten the impression that the Others had terrorized the Tailies on a near daily basis (even though they had only kidnapped survivors on two occasions). So I was fully expecting the whispers at least. Instead we got nothing.
I also expected the Others to be a bit more difficult to kill. Ethan seemed to have almost superhuman like strength... not so with the Others seen in this episode.
Hmmmmmm.... makes me wonder...

And no polar bears. Where did Eko get that furry white canteen? I thought for sure we'd see him bag a bear in this episode.
Nay815 11-17-2005, 03:47 PM No food or water in the tallies section of the crash not to mention that that portion of the plane sunk in the water and yet we saw no "food hunting" group excursions nor did we see them searching for a fresh water supply as did our orginial group-----nor did we see them find ANYTHING or have anything to transport water in.
I felt this epi was rushed and just a little sloppy in the writing. I think I would have preferred seeing their story a little at a time in flashback form once they met up with our originial survivors instead of one long flashback---or perhaps it should have been a two hour episode to better tell their story and to better develop the characters. Of course, I see all the tallies (so far) as very shallow, one-dimensional characters with the exception of Eko and perhaps, Bernard.
