Wow...what a fantastic episode!

What was the biggest "holy cow" moment for this show tonight? There were so many things connected and so many discoveries...reminded me of last season with the edge of the seat type feel.

For me it was Bernard raising Boone on the radio...that was amazing. The closing montage was PHENOMENOL!!!!

Thoughts???

It wasn't so much a "Holy Cow" moment, but that closing montage was awesome!

I eeked when Goodwin started talking. I was like, man, I'd have a few more questions for that guy before I started kicking his butt.

I love a good Montage.

BUt I agree, the Boone/Bernard connection was great.

I had believed for the longest time, on Boone's end the radio was saying "BUt [static] the survivors of flight 815!" said "But WE'RE The survivors of flight 815!".

Although I was also leading myself to believe that Boone was hearing is own voice back at him. Watch that episode again, it kinda does sound like Boone talking to himself.

BUt that's hard to prove now that we know it's Bernard.

Also, all the neck-breakin goin' around had me going "....Wow." to myself.

I forgot about the plane. Yeah, that was crazy, and I was the only person in my family to see it! (no Tivo - yet) I kept saying how amazing it was, and my husband was not impressed.

Yup, the plane coming down was awesome.

Also, when Goodwin broke Nathan's neck... definitely an "OH SNAP!" moment (no pun intended).

When Goodwin was talking to Ana while they were alone.

When Libby put that man's leg back in place. Uck

She had me distracted with her nice little ski story, and it made me jump.

This was a great episode. To be honest, I wasn't looking forward to it because I was afraid it would be a lot of 'filler', but I am glad to be wrong. They did a great job of condensing the first 48 days into a single episode.

There were many 'wow' moments for me...the radio, Bernard in the tree, the plane sinking, Goodwin, the kids.

I was also very surprised by the US Army knife. What does this mean? Was the US military involved in the original Dharma projects or did they come to the island afterwards, because of the 'incident'? Ana says the knife is about 20 years old, so the timing of the arrival of army supplies could be either pre or post incident.

The big moment for me was Goodwin leaking information about the Others. My family kept trying to talk, but I kept sushing them.

The plane crashing down at the beginning was also an AWESOME way to start it.

The List would've been a "holy cow" moment for me if I hadn't spoiled myself by watching the Canadian teaser.. it's still great food for thought though.

That's a good idea. The military coming to island because of the 'incident'.

Gotta keep that one in mind.

Im torn between the plane coming down and the conversation between Ana and Goodwin.

My holy cow moment was when Nathan said he was from Canada. I thought that was a direct connection to Ethans cover story of being from Canada as well. I see it was a red herring to draw us away from Goodwin.

BTW, does anyone else feel bad for Nathan? He seemed like he was trying to do the same thing that Ana and Jack did (lead the group and offer his own opinion). The only difference is that no one listened to him and in turn they actually didnt trust him.

The plane coming apart over the water and Goodwin breaking Nathan's neck. Oh, and Mr. Eko's reaction to the Dharma sign in the tailie hatch. That sparked something in him but he's keeping it very close to the vest.

The biggest revelation to me was when Goodwin said Nathan wasn't a 'good person' which tells me that the Others are acting as judge/jury/executioner for whoever gets stranded on the island. If you're not 'good', you're dead meat... Guess what Charlie was.

Definitely Bernard talking to Boone on the radio, also the plane landing in the water at the beginning--way cool!

Ana Lucia going off into the jungle with Goodwin knowing full well that he was the spy and how dangerous the Others are and then confronting him, that takes guts.

Also the opening sequence with the tail section coming down into the ocean was super cool. You don't see stuff like that on most television shows.

The Boone/Bernard momend did it for me!!!

I think it was because it was something I had completely forgotten about. And when Bernard was playing with the radio...I was just thinking "I wonder what he'll hear?". And then I heard Boone's voice, and it was like this wierd jolt from the past. I actually screamed "OMG BOONE!" :24: I love that I got so caught up...that I wasn't anticipating it!

My biggest Holy Cow moment was when my DVR cut off as they found Jin!!! What happened after that... anyone?
oh man! that happened to me the week that Michael and Sawyer were on the raft...it cut off just before they arrived back at the island <of course i didn't know that for a week> i thought i had missed so much and it was about 3 minutes worth <which with this show can be a LOT> ...basically what you missed was them finding Jin then tying him up, Ana and Ecko discussing the fact that he doesn't speak english, Ecko saying he probably wasn't a threat and then suddenly Jin is running away, they go after him and Jin runs out on the beach to Sawyer and Michael arriving and from there on it's pretty much what you saw if you saw the episode when Sawyer and Michael and Jin got captured by them... it was a terrific blending of the two story lines! i'm so sorry you missed it!
hope that helped... maybe someone else will have something to add for you.

oh, it's funny, i thought the plane crash was sorta... comical. the group of folks i watch with, were all "WTF"?
but the scenes on the beach afterwards were intense, pretty much as good as the first season premiere.

i guess my revelation was when goodwin broke nathan's neck. great red herrings up to that point! and, i spoil myself regularly, had looked at the photos from the upcoming episode and kept thinking... "goodwin seems too good." but discounting that by thinking, "i'm being paranoid." hahah - i was pretty delighted with that twist, and then the indication the others are fairly rational beings. they only want the "good" people. which means -

walt is good! YAY!

I agree with everything said here. I really enjoyed this show and now can't wait for the next show. I have to say that my Holy Cow Moment was the opening shot of the beautiful calm beach. It took my breath away. Then bang we were off on our adventure.

What a great opening... how quiet it was and then the tail of the plane crashing down. A creepy moment was when some of the Others were just standing over the sleeping Tailies moments before grabbing the ones they wanted. You knew them by their ripped pants and bare feet. Realizing Goodwin was an Other and that Ana killed him - when before we thought maybe he was a Tailie and was killed by the Others. There were lots of little moments connecting to what we've already seen and some of it helping to flesh out the story and some simply providing new clues. The montage was really cool too - nice way to tie in some new footage with old and add a few details - like the Tailies noticing Jin has a broken handcuff on his wrist. And the ending too - seeing how Ana shot blindly. All in all it was a really good ep.

Goodwin killing Nathan. I was 100% suckered into believing Nathan was their Ethan. He even kind of looked like Ethan to me, and that was probably intentional.

For my OMG moment, the radio transmission was freaky and it made me sad. When Boone was on the radio in the first season, I had hoped someone beyond the island really heard him. Then when Goodwin snapped Nathan's neck, I came out of my seat.

Definetly the plane falling apart onto the ocean. How Eko talked in the beginning with the kids. And after he let Libby watch the children when he pulled the dead bodies out of the ocean and after he killed one of the others is when he stopped talking. That which leads me to the part with Ana in the jungle. Also, the Bernard/Boone transmission. Totally awesome tie-in. I loved when Bernard asked Eko if any of the dead bodies he pulled in were African-American...he wanted to see if Rose was one of them. Also, him hanging from the tree in his seat. OMG! Ok, one last thing that really was awesome...the whole Ana going up with Goodwin even though she knew he was part of the others. How she asked him about running out of the jungle when he saw Bernard and knew that he wasn't wet and everyone else was. Good observation...alittle to late though for poor Nathan.

"It's a list. Of nine of us." Also just seeing the Others standing in a line in the middle of their camp, getting ready to attack. Why did they not take shifts for watch at night? They knew the Others were there.

I was thinking that it was probably Goodwin's shift, in hindsight. That was an eerie scene. How did Goodwin get shoes within 10 minutes of the crash, to blend in? I think the Others knew somehow that the plane was coming down.

This was an excellent episode with lots of cool moments, but the opening scene was my personal "Holy Cow" moment. As soon as I heard that wee "boom", and saw the little white shape appear up in the top left of the screen, a HUGE smile crept across my face!

The image of a bloddy Eko standing over two dead Others made the biggest impact for me. All at once, the Others seemed human. And the conflicted emotions in Eko's eyes were haunting.

All in all, this was an episode of moments, the way it was directed and edited. Which is exactly the way to handle an episode that crams 48 days into one hour. They pulled it off well.

I loved the opening scene and how it was filmed. I totally felt like I was in the water and in the action - Very cool and intense!

So many Holy Cow moments:
Eko killing not 1 but 2 Others
Goodwin killing Nathan - I was convinced Nathan was an Other
Ana & Goodwin alone in jungle
Libby trying to fix the broken leg

Finally, the ending recap was AWESOME. The music set the perfect mood and intensity level.

Excellent episode as always - Well Done!!!

For me it was finding a list of their names and descriptions on the dead Other, followed closely by "Nathan was not a good person. That's why he wasn't on the list." Now I want to know more about Nathan!

The Bernard/Boone exchange was a little anti-climactic, I thought, since I was expecting it. Nice to see from the other point of view, though.

I enjoyed much of the episode but did not experience the Holy Cow Effect.
I was a little disappointed that Ana toughened up too early in the episode, with the talking about cutting a finger off Nathan to make him talk, etc. I expected her hardening, to the efforts & decisions that had to be made, to take a little longer. But then it was a very condensed 48 days. In fact it seemed like less than an hour, so my sense of timing may be off

You know, I watched the episode again today, and now the list is freaking me out.

Who made the list? Where did they get paper and writing tools?

I looked at all the scenes carefully and it seems like there was absolutely NO luggage or fuselage parts salvaged from the plane - no one has anything except the clothes on their backs, so it's not like someone found paper and pens in luggage.

So, these Others are running through the jungle with ragged clothes and no shoes, but they just happen to have a home office close by??? Any thoughts?

For me? Well,

1) That plane did not impress me, as I did not like the CGI.
HOWEVER when the camera came up in the water and you saw everyone struggling, I screeched. And I knew it was coming. Excellent camera work!!!
2) When the little kids get dragged away by the others - knew that was coming and it still made the hair stand up on the back of my neck.
3) When Eko killed the others and then carved that stick.
4) When Ana Lucia sits down with that guy during the hike before he impales himself - that entire conversation gave me the willies.
5) When Jin shows up.
6) When the whispers started and Shannon popped out of the woods. Suddenly it all made sense.

For me there were many slick moments, but the ones that I just totally didn't foresee were:

- Ecko all bloody and scary looking after taking out two of the Others. I had to rewind, since I wasn't sure what I just saw!

- Goodwin having his talk with AL, very creepy and I think the first opportunity anyone has has to actually get some info from "Others"

For me the coolest parts were :-
1)The opening few shots. The noise of the tail section slowly getting louder. The camera shots coming up from under the water and the shot of the tail section sticking out of the water.
2)Eko kicking 'other' ***.But then following that with a vow of silence.
3)The Bernard/Boone radio conversation and the agony of knowing what was occuring at the other end of the Island as Ana Lucia turned the radio off
4)The re-emergence of part of the 'lost' theme. It was the piece of music playing when we first learned that locke was in a wheelchair and it played pretty frequently through the first half of season one.(I think it played when Jack revived Charlie too).It doesn't seem to have been used much this season and I don't know whether using it in this episode was done so as to link the events in this episode to season 1 chronologically.I hope people know which music im on about or this will sound like gibberish lol.
5)Eko pulling the bodies from the water.
6)Ana Lucia breaking down and finally showing shes human.

Agree. Agree. I'm assuming Goodwin made the list, but where the hell did the paper and writing untensil come from? Paper from a Hatch? Are the Others making paper out of trees, lol? Granted, you can make a "pencil" of sorts out of burned wood... The Bernard/Boone thing, I just expected more. I knew it was coming and was disappointed. That dang Ana Lucia strikes again.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I always associated that theme with Locke exclusively because it played at the end of DEM when he's crying down at the hatch. But I guess you're right, they did use it for other occassions in season 1, they just save it for big emotional moments.

The only time I recall it popping up this season before last Wednesday was during Locke's flashback with Helen. There's a modified, slowed down version of the theme playing. I agree, it was quite a jolt to hear that music again in full form.

3) the tailies finding the radio in the hatch, as it was then I realized they were the ones Boone heard

and of course we're eager for next week - can;t wait to see Rose and Bernard's reunion.
