Any new thoughts on why "Quarantine" is painted on the INSIDE of the door...just like our first hatch?

About time someone brought this up. That place was so small and dirty I cant see anyone being in there for too long. I guess that shows that the Quarantine in that area was a long time ago, but our bunker is obviously in better condition and (possibly) more recent.

I also wonder if goodwin (and the kidnapping others) knew about the hatch. When they approached the door his facial expression was either a look of surprise or he was thinking 'damn they found a hatch.' This is important because either the others know about the hatches and use them or they have the sickness that is the reason for the quarantine.

Yeah. The obvious age differences between the two bunkers, besides the fact that we had a living, breathing human in the Lostaway's bunkey [Desmonde], show that that bunker had been abandoned for quite some time.

But still...someone was inside with a door/hatch reading "Quarantine".

Kinda odd.

Gosh I Love This Show.

I kind of wondered if the smaller bunker may have had some sort of tunnel that we haven't seen or might have been blocked off previously. Something that connected the two...(possibly others too)...an underground transit of sorts.

Good observation. His expression was rather bland at the finding of some man made structure after sometime being in the jungle.

And the Quarantine/Sickness links are quite obvious...but still the question "Why?" wonders around.

I'm sure we'll find out that all of the hatches/stations are connected underground. Some, like the Swan station, have been closed off with cement.

The Swan station cemented off from tunnels connecting to toher bunkers? Possibly.

Whatver is behind the cement blockade is definately something dealing with electro magnetism. Obviously. But possibly that section is cemented off on all sides. As in, if you were to take an alternate tunnel TOWARDS the Swan station...you would hit cemented off wall before the electro mag portion.

*shrugs* I'm rambling.

it was obviously cemented off fairly recently, as the cement buckets were still lying around. It may have been a long time, but it was obviously done in haste and after the fact.

i think its more obvious now that the outside is really what's quarantined...the lock that was on the door could easily be opened from the inside, so they certainly arent trying to keep anyone in

woah! I just did some googling for religious significance of 40 days. You know, it appeared that Eko might not have talked for 40 days out of mourning or atonement.

But then this thread made me think of a quarantine 'period' so I googled 'quarantine' and '40 days' and got this:
http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dq/history.htm
The practice of quarantine, as we know it, began during the fourteenth century in an effort to protect coastal cities from plague epidemics. Ships arriving in Venice from infected ports were required to sit at anchor for forty days before landing. This practice, called quarantine, was derived from the Italian words quaranta giorni which mean 40 days.

That's a great find!
