Forget about all the theories when this crash took place -- It pretty much confirmed it in tonights episode that all of this is taking place in the present time.

If you're saying this because of the title card that said "Day 48: Today", I'm pretty sure that that was just conveying that we had caught up to where we were last week in the storyline.

In the last scene -- It said, "TODAY - 48 Days." In text.

Yeah, but I thought they said that to show that we had caught up to present time on the island.

I disagree that "today" means November 16, 2005.

I do think though, that it is at least 2004.

There was a reference to matches, and NOT lighters in the beginning (when Goodwin was starting a fire with sticks). Lighters weren't allowed on planes sometime in 2004...right? Lighters dry out and can be used again.

So the plane crashed in Sept 2005? A year after the show debuted?

They were just showing the talies had cought up in time to then fuselage survivors. After all, if you wanted to be technical, "day 48-today" would be last Wednesday wouldn't it?

According to Damon Lindelof, in an interview in "Lost Chronicles: The Official Companion Book", the plane crashed in October 2004.

I only took the reference to mean as you did - we got to see an abridged version of the tailies 48 days - once the action caught up to what we had previouly seen in Adrift/...And Found it just fast forwarded, only stopping so we could get the tailies perspective to the action (like Ana having Eko hit her and dump into the pit) then the tailies story caught up to what we had seen most recently of our castaways and both stories merged into 'today'.
