if they were gonna give up looking for claire.. why wasnt them giving up looking for claire shown?

i didnt quite understand why a huge cliffhanger was set up..and we return 4 days later as if nothing has happened?

if some1 could explain the rationale for this it may help me get over my disappointment ;)

The decision was made by Damon and Carlton to address Claire in dialogue with the mention that the trail's gone cold. They have no idea where to look. Bumpy? Yeah. But that's the only way they could see telling other stories.
