Hi Gregg!
Lost is a really exceptionally fascinating and captivating show and I was wondering if you guys expected it to be such a big hit? When you heard of the idea behind the show did you think that this is going to appeal to people?
Also I heard that the pilot was one of the most expensive (or THE most expensive?!) TV productions ever made for a series, so they must have thought that this will go down well or did they took a huge risk?
Thx for answering quenstions! I love the show and I like that it has changed in season 2 and still is as exciting as in the beginning. You guys are geniuses!
bye

Honestly, I don't know what anyone thought. There was so much stuff going on at ABC at the time (the old regime being kicked out and the new regime coming in) that I don't think anyone thought it was going to be big.
The pilot was well written, compelling and well shot, but it was expensive. I think people viewed that as a hindrance. And who knows what went through the minds of the ABC executives planning the fall schedule. There was a point where Lost wasn't on the schedule, and then it was back on. Maybe they were thinking they'd burn it off, absorb the financial loss and move on.
And then the internet rumblings started. People started talking about this kick-a** pilot. If it wasn't for the internet, Comic Con wouldn't have been as huge a deal as it was. I could be wrong, but weren't fans at Comic Con were discussing the characters and what the numbers meant -- even before the pilot had aired. That's pretty incredible, isn't it? I think that was the time when people associated with the show started thinking, hey, this might just get an audience.
Then it aired. For me, it was unlike anything else on TV. Police procedurals are nice, but it seemed like everything was a cop show. Or a wacky sitcom. I just didn't care. But Lost was different. I was also a fan from the beginning.
And it all honesty, most of the genius credit belongs to Damon. He has steered the show creatively from day one.

..and now ABC has hits like "Desperate Housewives," "Grey's Anatomy" and "Lost". Pretty amazing.

I didn't know that, really incredible. Lost is the first show I know where the internet plays such a huge role. There are other shows people talk about on forums, but for Lost it's way bigger, It's quite a phenomenon I think. and there's also so much mythology via several sites like hansofoundation.org. Damon said in the podcast there will be an "experience" on this site during the summer!? Can you give a small hint what that will be? Will it give a better understanding of what is happening on Lost or is it rather an own story?

Yeah, what I also liked immediately was the big cast. A broader range of characters..
Do you have any favourite character? For me it's definitely Locke and Eko. But Kate is hot, would't want to miss her
