Hi Carlton,
I remember seeing a "Promo Pic" for the season finale which showed Kate & Sawyer sitting by a fire talking, but I never saw this scene in the actual episode. Was this an actual scene that was deleted? Could you please shed some light on this?
Speaking of K & S, how long is this thing going to drag on before they finally get together? (OK, I know that one's not getting answered.) It's just that they're so perfect together. There is such a HUGE fanbase for this couple- literally thousands who are obsessed with wanting these two lovebirds together. Even many of the "unbiased" Lost viewer sees the heat between them. It's refreshing to a romance as gutsy, original and exciting as this, instead of the sugar-coated, "paint-by-numbers" fairytales that have become the bland diet of TV. Kate & Sawyer have a ton of passion and a truckload of angst, and they are never boring or predictable, like 98% of everything else out there. This isn't an "easy" relatioinship, nor do they fit our preprogrammed definition of what real love is. Every nuance between them, however subtle, is natural & believable. They have a phenomenal chemistry that I rarely see between characters. When there is lack of chemistry between characters, their interactions are noticeably forced and awkward- and it ruins the story. But these two are on fire just standing near each other, and sexual tension- they OWN it. It's pure electricity between them- something I noticed even in the few scenes they had together in the season finale. Kudos to Josh & Evie for showing us what real chemistry is all about! That kiss they shared in Confidence Man is still unchallenged in "TV land".
But what I love most is their deep, emotional connection. They even share the same brokenness, something which allows them to be a conduit to each other's healing. The only time they seem genuinely happy is in each other's presence. Their darkness falls away in those moments, and we see who they could have been before they're lives fell apart. Somehow, they're both always there for each other when it really matters. I loved the scene in "?" when Sawyer was comforting Kate after the hatch deaths- she gave in to it and totally trusted him in that moment. It's nice to see them both finally showing some vulnerability around each other. I think it's a positive step forward in their relationship. They share this unspoken bond- so much is conveyed between them with just a look, and they get each other on a level that no one else does. They're just meant to be together- at least that's the vibe I pick up from their scenes. Kate & Sawyer seem to naturally bring out the best (sometimes worst) in each other. Kate just comes to life aroun Sawyer, isn't afraid to be herself around him. She actually shows signs of having a personality, as opposed to the immature, shadow of a woman we see at other times. Sawyer doesn't treat her as an inferior- he listens to her, cares what she thinks. And Kate, well, she understands Sawyer- she sees James underneath the BS persona of "Sawyer", and she brings his heart to the surface. They're both so messed up, but there's also much good between them- caring, respect, freedom, equality. They give each other unconditional love and acceptance. This is why so many people are drawn to this couple, why we care so much if they make it together, and why we identify with them. I love their journey, but I'm hoping for a big payoff one day- for them to finally stop running from their feelings for each other and give in to the true love that's there.
Thank you for giving us Kate, Sawyer, and their beautiful story. I hope the ball really starts rolling for them in Season Three! There's just so much potential here. They're the best "TV Couple" that I've seen in years, and Lost would be diminished without them. And I applaud you for giving us a TV romance done right for a change- it's real and has a lot of depth/substance to it.
Thanks for taking the time to read this insanely long post- you deserve an award for that alone.
Ciao
