View Full Version : info on the others from the opening scene
DaNay4422 10-05-2006, 01:41 AM 1 - they have cds, instead of records like the Swan
2 - they lead normal lives, (baking and going to book clubs)
3 - Henry/Ben does not like Stephen King
4 - everyone, especially the one guy at the book club, seems to revere Ben. He was upset that Juliet would dare pick a book that Ben didn't like.
5 - Juliet does not like Ben. She didn't care if he didn't like the book she picked. When he said he was out of the book club, she looked pretty annoyed with him.
6 - it doesn't look like there were too many individual houses. So not many others in the community.
7 - Ethan can fix plumbing
8 - "Downtown" makes Juliet cry
9 - when the plane crashed and Ben gave instructions to Goodwin and Ethan, it seemed like he had done it before. They both knew exactly what he meant when he asked them to infiltrate the groups and get lists.
anything else I missed?
sickotriz 10-05-2006, 01:53 AM I don't know about Benry not liking Stephen King... I think maybe he just doesn't like Carrie, for whatever reason. For some reason, I get the feeling that Henry is very anti-religion.
lockeness 10-05-2006, 02:52 AM Juliet quoted something about 'not having any more free will on this..' (island?') right before the plane crashed. That seemed a little interesting.
Deadshot 10-05-2006, 05:12 AM The bit when Downtown came on and Juliet started to cry was a good moment dramatically. She seemed to run a gamut of emotions when the song came on. From nodding her head (like telling herself all is okay) to breaking down for like a second before composing herself. It'll be interesting to see what the past holds for her character.
The instructions Ben barked and the fact they seemed to have done it before leads me to believe in some kind of split in the Dharma initiative. That at one point there was a difference of opinion over something and there was a split with Ben emerging as the leader of the 'rebels' so to speak. I imagine at one point they had to infiltrate the other Dharma group (we can call them the empire if you want :-P) . hence the experience in similar situations.
All speculation on my part of course lol.
LostFan07 10-05-2006, 05:17 AM There does not seem to be any children in their little community.

I took it as if Benry wasn't a Pop Literature guy. There are people that read books that you can buy at Wal-Mart and people that don't. It came off to me that he would have had the same reaction to a John Grisham novel.
I don't think that he hates Stephen King, I think he would never read it because it is above it, Stephen King isn't on his radar. Probably a humorous self-deprecating stab by the writer's, they have said that Stephen King has at the least influenced the writing of the show, correct?

Maybe this is why they feel the need to kidnap them lol

Hence obsession with Walt and pregnant Claire.
Reasons for no youth on the Island? I would ask if the Other's were related but diverse ethnicities between them rules that out. Some sort of sterilization, prolonged effect of particles, radiation, electromagnetism, something that contributes to the special nature of the Island?

I agree that he doesn't like this particular book, because when he was in the swan hatch, he asked if there arent any Stephen King books.....

Well remembered!

Her comments during the reading club:
Silly me for sinking so low as to select something that Ben wouldn't like. [...]
Here I am thinking that free will still actually exists on.... rumbling begins
There is definitely conflict between Juliet and Ben.
Regarding the song "Downtown".
I looked up the lyrics and it talks about being able to forget all your troubles when your in the City among all the lights and activity that the City has....you won't be lonely anymore.
I suspect that Juliet is tired of the seclusion of the Island and would like to get back to the "real world". ;)
waswere 10-10-2006, 04:53 AM its a feel good song that may have amde her a little homesick

Yeah, maybe the vaccine they give/or take has made them all sterile. I'm sure this topic has been mentioned before, so I won't string this out any further.:lipsseal:
