ive been meaning to watch the Prisoner since i visited Portmerion (village where it was filmed) when i was on holiday. ive never seen an episode yet tho.

as for what it reminded me of...
i first thought they'd stuck Sawyer in the raptor pen in Jurassic Park
and Raiders of the Lost Ark - when Marion is forced to put on the wedding dress to have dinner with the guy whos trying to find the Ark for the Nazis.

I think none of them (Others included) are free. I'm just waiting for the giant white beach ball to come ashore and eat someone.

Cage scenes with sawyer reminded me of two things:

1. The Island of Dr Monroe, especially with the building in the back of Sawyers cage.

2. The Planet of the Apes, (humans in cages)

I get a really big The planet of the apes vibe when I saw Desmond & Kelvin on rocks, hearing the kettle drums when Sayid searched the village, Jack trying to escape.

Even last night, when Sawyer was trying to escape my wife said 'Is this planet of the apes with this music?'

SO much like the prisoner. The picturesque village. The disorientation of Jack and the rest, the constant attempts to get Jack to talk. I expected #2- I mean Juliet- to ask him why he resigned...

I have to say NO.

The Prisoner wakes up in the Village with no idea of where he is or how he got there. He is a resident of the Village from the start, he can wander around freely and explore. The locals are friendly (yet sinister), and he's invited in for his interrogation more often than he's dragged to it.

Remember, the Prisoner was in control from day one, this is because he was put in the village to find out why he resigned (which was only partly answered). As long as he never broke he maintianed control and as he learned the ins and outs of the Village he gained more control until he was able to escape.

The Others are playing a different game all together. Certainly more straight forward as far as proper interrogation techniques are concerned (the stuff with Jack was right out of a SERE battle of wills and Kate's treatment was classic Hans Scharf), there isn't any of the sophisticated mind games you saw in the Prisoner, at least not yet.

At the point when Sawyer was making his escape attempt i thought of The Prisoner, great minds eh?
