While Sayid and Jin were waiting to ambush the Others, the Others slipped onto the sailboat without being seen / heard. With Sayid being in the picture and the boat not being THAT far away, from them they would be able to see them come from the shore and go onto the dock, the Others were not wet, so they didn't come out of the water, so where did they come from???? I think you would have seen 5 people walking the dock to the boat.

IMHO, I think the Hydra hatch is somewhere close to the end of the dock. This is where season 2 ended and next thing we know, Jack and crew are locked in cages, etc at the beginning of season 3.

One last thing.....is the Hydra hatch sort of like Atlantis or is it a tunnel to get to where the Others are. Seems we have two places here, which is where the Ferry may come in, the Hydra (above ground - bear cages, large pipes, etc., and below ground - Jack's cell) and where the Others actually live (1st episode - season 3). Any other thoughts on this?

Actually, that's what I was going to say. The Hydra hatch is located close enough (the underground part) for them to exit at the dock. There could be an opening at that point.

The Others came from a boat. At the end of the episode they were towing the sail boat away. There was a big spotlight and also the sound of an engine. The 'Elizabeth' has never of these things.

So either they have another motor boat, or... Michael and Walt are sleepin' with the fishes...

I don't give the writers that much credit anymore. I believe they just didn't think that much into it, and figure the audience will give them latitude and just accept that the Others slipped past Sayid and Jin without being detected.

My first thought was the hydra hatch/tunnel as well. Of course the others are very good at being sneaky so it wouldn't surprise me if they walked almost right past Sayid and Jin or at least very close to them. They definitely know the island much better than Sayid or Jin. I think it's also possible they have more than one boat. Would they really have given their only boat to Michael? If their other boat was a motorized one, wouldn't Sun have heard it? Maybe they have a yellow submarine? :laugh: Or a sharkmobile. :ermm:

I agree that the dock plays a bid part in this. After all wasn't Hurley told to never come back here.

Actually; it seemed the plan was for them to take the tug boat to the given coordinates where they would be picked up by somebody who would take them home, I think. So that means they could have brought the tugboat back after picking up michael/walt.

I thought Colleen said "Ben wants us to take the Galaga" ... not sure about the pronounciation or spelling. She could have said the "sailboat", meaning he wants them to seize the sailboat, I guess, but it didn't sound like that was the word.
Maybe it's the name of the tugboat, but I think Sayid & Jin would have heard that coming.

yeah the idea of the hatch being near the end of the dock seems possible. there could be an underwater entrance underneath the dock, that slides up when they want to get on the dock.

Also remember that Henry asked how it would take Colleen to get a team together and she said an hour. I'm not sure if she meant get people together to leave, or an hour to get a group together and reach the boat, but either way the others are quite close to the boat, either by foot or by some sort of transportation.

My guess is the Others have another vessel (the Galaga) that is either a submersible or can travel quietly above water.

After reading that thread, I checked th audio and found that the CC are a bit inaccurate, the dialogue sounds more like this:

Colleen: Danny wait
Danny: Hold up
Colleen: We gotta go get the boat, it’s ten minutes from where the Galaga can retrieve it and bring it back for ____

So it does seem like the others atleast took some sort of transportation to get to the boat. Also, when the others were watching Sayid the sail boat was in the water and not close to land. The others original plan would have to include some sort of water transportation to get to the boat.

Let's take another look at this. The sailboat is at the dock on the left as you look at it from the beach when Sun is alone on the boat.

When the Others walk on the dock, they are walking away from us. The boat is on their right.

They had to have come from the water end of the dock.

This would explain why the pala ferry dock is so long - if there's a sub...

The others showed up in a "submarine" which is probably how they get to the hydra hatch
