That scene got me so upset!! Ben is one of my favorites, but I was questioning my judgement when I saw that. I was so relieved to see that the fluffy one was okay. :bunny: I didn't think that Ben would harm an innocent creature for no reason.

Ben is NOT a bunny boiler quite yet any way, perhaops we should call him Glennry?

Zelda

Okay, so maybe the rabbit didn't die. How do we not know that Ben didn't just pluck a random white rabbit out of wherever it came from, and draw another 8 on its bum?

TPTB did not really kill a rabbit just for our shock entertainment. The Animal Welfare Act protects animals used in entertainment. The producers should have added the usual "no animals were harmed or destroyed during the making of this film/program." But I didn't read one in the credits. Did anybody else notice this? I think if not, then Abrams & the rest of his producers should set the record straight on this. This kind of scene was totally unnecessary as it added to the already gruesome beatings that Sawyer endured. They could have done this part of the storyline in a different way & still get their idea across.

BOO on J. J. & the writers. boo. Bad form. You've managed to step on animal lovers' sensitivities big time here.

I know Ben doesn't have the best track record with telling the truth and all that, :) but I think we can take his word for it. They gave the cute bunny a sedative to make him conk out after Ben did his simulation of a bunny cage earthquake, just a way to move the con against James along. Bunny #8 was fine when Ben showed James that they were on another island.

But during that whole bunny cage earthquake scene, it sure seemed Ben was tapping in to something primal and animalistic, even if he was just playacting for James.

I love Ben, he's my favorite character, so I'm glad he's not a bunny killer. Nice kick upside James' head, though.........

[Note: Sawyer is dead to me, James lives]

When watching that disturbing scene, I could so imagine little Benry having a pet rabbit. He just seems like the type as a little boy nerd to have a pet bunny. Glad it's okay. :)

So killing people is okay, but killing a bunny is bad?

that scene was really freaky and disturbing and i was so disappointed since i really like ben as a character. i was so relieved when he showed sawyer alive bunny. and there's no reason to believe he really killed him after all. what would be the point?

what does that even mean?
he was shaking a cage and causing a panic atmosphere so the rabbit would collapse from the sedative. whats primal and animalistic as a human about that? most "primal" humans (or modern hunter-gatherers) dont spend their day causing spastic fear within their bands or with surrounding plants/animals/inanimate place. your comment makes no sense to me.

the scene is just a cheesy concrete metaphor.
ben looked laughable acting like a robotic dufus.

No, watch the scene again. It's as if he goes in to a trance while doing that, as if he's channeling something. TPTB have said that the Island has a long history, with a lot of non-Oceanic 815 related stuff going on (the four toed statue, for one). I believe Ben when he said he's lived there all his life, and I sensed he was channeling something ancient on the Islands.

Or I could have had too many beers when I watched the scene originally! :)

It kind of pissed me off that the bunny lived, I'm going with the fact that the bunny died, and they had a new bunny to show Sawyer just so they could eff with him some more

I guess a real way to gauge the impact of the scene is if you would want your youngsters to see it. What is the rating - TV14? I personally found the scene a bit disturbing due to it's intensity but that was the point, wasn't it? That, plus the fact that I remember Emerson's portrayal of the psychopath on the Practice vividly. He is almost too effective in those kinds of scenes...

Hah, hah! The golden rule of filmmaking: "Never kill the puppy."

Or in this case, the bunny.

So where is the 4, 15, 16, 23, 42? Dead? :(

Wow, I guess I'm a little late to be joining this conversation, but oh well.

Since the bunny was not killed, I don't see any reason why they would have to put a disclaimer at the end of the show.

But yeah, I wonder if the rabbits are numbered like 1-7, and then our Bunny #8, or if they are numbered after the Numbers?

I loved that scene. It seemed so bizarre when he was doing it, then when you understand why, it makes sense an it's chilling. That's what I liked about it.

Having the bunny live makes a LOT more sense.
Why would they bother to actually go through with the surgery to install that device on the rabbit's heart when a simple sedative would produce the same effect??
Even if he lied to Sawyer in the end, and for some reason Sawyer DOES have that device in him, they still would have no need to go through the rabbit surgery. It would be a waste of their time, materials, and efforts.
I see no reason why that bunny would not be alive.
